1.0 Background Since 2003 the County of Hastings GIS has developed and maintained a variety of web-based, online mapping applications. The goal of such applications is to provide constant and reliable access to County geographic information for the general public. Web-based technology is dynamic and rapidly evolving, and we welcome all comments and suggestions on how to improve the quality and quantity of data available to the user. Mobile Users please note: All efforts were made to ensure the majority of mobile platforms (tablets, smartphones) can access the mobile application. Please be aware there may be some limitations in functionality and the provided screenshots in this guide may appear and behave differently, according to the device used. Main Map 4 2 1 3 Basic Features: The above map is the default window, one which the user will encounter every time they enter the viewer. The initial map draws the County of Hastings within the context of Eastern Ontario as a frame of reference, outlining large urban centres, municipal boundaries, highway networks and provincial parks. Below is a brief description of the available functions that appear on this page, labelled with the corresponding number on the map above. 1: Main Map Window 2: Navigation Tools + My Location 3: Main Menus 4: Floating Open Menu Page - 3 -
Navigation Tools The navigation tools allow the user to zoom in, zoom out, and return to the full map extent. Zoom In Zoom Out Home (Original Map) My Location (GPS location from mobile device, if enabled) Main Menus Along the bottom of the Main Map Window are five menu items. Each menu item has a specific function and will be outlined in detail below. When a menu item is selected by clicking on the icon, a corresponding window opens to activate the item. The menu windows are free-floating and may be repositioned anywhere by clicking on the title section of the window and dragging the item to its desired location. To close a menu, simply click on the icon again. Using the Menus Find Menu Clicking on the Find menu opens a search/query window with six options available. Users can search by: Property (assessment roll number of property 15 digit number from MPAC) 9-1-1 Address (civic address of property) Municipal Office Library Place of Worship Schools Page - 4 -
Click on the link to open the feature you wish to search, and follow the on-screen instructions. Be sure to click Apply to finish your search. See example below for finding a Municipal Office: Layer Menu Clicking on the Layer Menu opens an interactive list of available layers to be viewed on the map. Layers can be checked ON (blue checkmark) and OFF by the user to create a customized map. Once layers have been set by the user, simply click the icon again to close the window to maximize the viewing window for the map. The aerial photography will appear automatically as the user zooms in to the map. Page - 5 -
Community Menu Clicking on the Community Menu opens a series of bookmarked communities for easy navigation to an urban area of the County. Users can select from a series of predefined geographic extents to zoom in quickly to an area of interest. These include: Town of Bancroft Town of Deseronto Village of Madoc Village of Marmora Village of Stirling Village of Tweed City of Belleville & City of Quinte West Measure Menu Clicking on the Measure Menu opens a window with three options for the user: Measure by Area, Measure by Distance and Identify geographic coordinates (GPS). Please note: Accuracy of measurements and location are dictated by a touch screen interface on most mobile devices. This introduces a degree of inaccuracy that should be taken into account. Area measurement unit can be changed by clicking on the arrow: Distance measurement unit can be changed by clicking on the arrow: Identify Geographic Coordinate (GPS): Click on a point on the map window and its latitude and longitude coordinates will be highlighted in the window. Information Menu Clicking on the Information Menu will open a descriptive window outlining the intended uses and limitations of the Mobile Public Community Online Map application designed by the County of Hastings GIS. Page - 7 -
