SSH Secure Client (Telnet & SFTP) Installing & Using SSH Secure Shell for Windows Operation Systems What is SSH?: SSH is an application that protects the TCP/IP connections between two computers. The software enables secure terminal sessions (Telnet) and file transfers (FTP) to and from the servers. It also enables the secured use of networked applications over untrusted networks. The encryption of the connection is done at the application layer, meaning that the security provided is available regardless of the network connection speed or type. Why Use SSH Secure FTP Client?: Using an SSH Secure FTP Client is now required for all FTP connections to Peoplesoft and soon will be required for FTP connections to the Cal Poly Intranet. SSH Secure FTP Client allows you to connect to an FTP server securely by encrypting and hiding your password and other information that you send over your FTP connection. This allows you to protect critical information form being hijacked and used by unauthorized persons. System Requirements: Windows 95 (OSR2.1), Windows 98 or 98 SE, Windows Me, Windows NT 4 (with Service Pack 5 or 6 installed), Windows 2000 (with Service Pack 1 or 2 installed), or Windows XP Functional connection to a remote host, Network or PPP Dial UP connection 4 MB of disk space Note: the Secure Shell client will save each user's settings in that particular user's personal directory 1

Installing and Using SSH Secure FTP Client Installing the Software: Before you begin the installation of the SSH Secure FTP Software make sure you have Administrative rights on your computer and that you know your Cal Poly Intranet username and password which is usually your email password. Call the Helpdesk at x6776 if you forgot your password. Installation will install 2 programs, but you will use only the FTP client. 1. Download the SSH Secure FTP Client from this webpage, http://www.csupomona.edu/os/windows/license/csupomona/ssh%20client/sshsecureshell/ (You can copy and paste the web link by highlighting it and clicking the Control and C key on your keyboard, then put the cursor in the address bar of your web browser and clicking on the Control and V button to paste the address, then click on the Go button) 2. You ll be prompted for your Cal Poly Intranet username and password then click OK. On this page click on SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.3.exe and you will be asked to save the software to your computer. Click on Save, select a location to download the program and then click on Save again. 3. Once the download is complete, click on the Open button to begin the installation of the software. If a window with Open doesn t appear then go to the folder where you downloaded the file and double click on the icon called SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.3.
