1 page 1 of 11 The following information is provided as a service to our users, customers, and distributors. ** If you are just beginning the process of installing PIPSPro then please note these instructions can be followed to install the SQL Server 2008 Express. Therefore when opening the PIPSPro Installation dashboard only install step 1 and then jump to these instructions. ** 1. Only perform this step if you have already installed Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express with the Management tools. You will need to uninstall the Management tools. If you have not installed Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express then you can skip to #2. To do this: Open your Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add Remove Programs (Programs and Features in Windows 7). Locate the Microsoft SQL Server management Studio Express and remove it. Once this is removed go to step #2. 2. Open an internet browser and go to this site: On the right side of the screen, choose either the download of 2008 R2 32-Bit database w/tools or the 64 bit database w/tools. Choose the one that is relevant for your operating system and download to your computer. If you are not sure which version to download consult with your IT professional.

2 page 2 of 11 Choose download now on the next page. You will then be taken to another screen and on this screen you may have to click on the yellow bar on the top of the page and choose download file. Save the file when asked to a location you can easily find the file when it completes the download. For example you could save it to your desktop. 3. Once the file is downloaded you can double click on it to run it. You will then get the following screen:

3 page 3 of 11 This may take a few minutes but then you may get a dialogue box that looks something like this. Or like this: If this happens, follow the links and install the updates required. Each computer may be different so the alert may be slightly different in each case, but generally you will need the Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 ( )and the.net Framework 3.5 SP1 ( ). 4. Once you have downloaded and updated the necessary windows components double click on the SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU (for 32bit machines) file and continue with the installation. At this point you should see this screen: Choose New installation or add features to an existing installation.

4 page 4 of 11 Choose I accept the license terms. Then hit next. 5. During this process you may get a warning about the windows firewall being on and or Windows PowerShell failed. a. To resolve the Windows Firewall, go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Windows Firewall and turn it off. b. For the PowerShell you will need to download and install this. Visit this site: to locate what version you need. For example if you have a windows XP 32 bit operating system you will need download the PowerShell 1.0 WindowsXP-x86 file. ( )

5 page 5 of 11 c. Once you have resolve the above issues hit the Re-run button to make sure everything passes. 6. Once everything passes you will be brought to the Feature Selection. Choose all the features and hit next. 7. The next screen will ask you to select the name of the server. You can check the Default instance. Then click next. 8. The next screen will ask what credential to use. Click on Use the same account for all SQL Server services. Then hit the drop down menu next to Account name and select NT Authority\System.

6 page 6 of 11 Click OK Then Next. 9. Account Provisioning is next, Choose Windows authentication mode, then next. 10. Then next screen will be error reporting. Leave this blank and choose next.

7 page 7 of The next screen will show the installation progress. This will take several minutes to complete. 12. Once the installation completes Choose Close.

8 page 8 of Open the SQL Server Management Studio: If you installed SQL Server 2005 previously you will be prompted to import settings. Choose Yes. Then you will be prompted with a message about registered servers on this system and again you can choose Yes.

9 page 9 of The Connect Screen will open. In the Server name box, use the drop down menu and choose the server name with the \SQLEXPRESS in the name.

10 page 10 of 11 At this point you will need to run the script to setup the database. The script can be found on the disk or by running step 4 of the installation Dashboard. Follow these directions if installing from the dashboard: 1. From the PIPSpro Installer Dashboard, select Step 4 Install SQL Database Setup Scripts. 2. From the browser dialog, select a directory to copy the script files to. This can be any place on your system that you have access to. 3. Run SQL Management Studio, Start Menu->All Programs->Microsoft SQL Server >SQL Server Management Studio Express. 4. Select the appropriate SQL Server (if you have more than one). Accept the default settings and select the Connect button. 5. Select File->Open->File. Browse to the directory where the scripts were saved in step Select and Open Dbscript1.sql. 7. Because this script was written for SQL Server Express 2005 you will need to modify the script to reference the correct location for Once the script is open, locate the path in lines 7 and 9. You will need to change the path folder From: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\SISoftware.mdf To : C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\SISoftware.mdf 8. Run the script by choosing Execute from the Query menu or the Execute button on the toolbar

11 page 11 of 11 This concludes the SQL Server 2008 installation and you should now be able to open PIPSPro and select the server and log into PIPSPro using Superuser for both the username and password.
