The Tiger Chronicles Volume 1 Issue 9 HARMONY SCIENCE ACADEMY JANUARY 28, 2014 Upcoming Events: Jan. 26 Jan. 30 National School Choice Week Feb. 7 STEM Festival Feb. 2 Feb. 6 STEM Week We are delighted to invite you to attend our Third STEM Festival! This event is designed to inspire and motivate our students to consider a STEM career by creating an awareness of STEM possibilities for teachers, parents and students. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to visit with staff and students and share in the richness of our approach to the STEM endeavor. HARMONY SCIENCE ACADEMY STEM Festival and Open House will take place on Saturday, February 7th, 2015 and promises to be an enriching event you do not want to miss! From 11:00 AM-2:00 PM our school will host: - Math & Science Expo- Art Exhibition - Robotics show- Performances - Food - Cultural activities much more. Entrance is free to the public! Food will be sold during this event. The application window for the 2015-2016 school year is now open for all HPS campuses and will close on March 15, 2015. You may submit your application online or in person at your campus of choice. If there are more applications than available seats for the 2015-2016 school year, a lottery will be held to determine who will be admitted. The date for this lottery will be disclosed at a later time. For additional questions, please call your local campus of choice.

PAGE 2 THE TIGER CHRONICLES Monday, January 26th: Have students create a banner during DEAR time. The students would write something positive about Harmony and decorate the banner. The banner would then be displayed in the cafeteria for the week. Tuesday, January 27th: Family Reading Night. Students and parents can come enjoy a story and a craft. Our seniors will read a story and create a craft related to the story. Wednesday, January 28th: Lunch Time Bingo: During the last 10 minutes of lunch students and staff will play bingo and the prizes will be the National School Choice week yellow scarves. Thursday, January 29th: Ice Cream Social, Come and enjoy ice cream and celebrate your choice in education. Friday, January 30th: Wear yellow in celebration National School Week. PTO NEWS: We will be having a Valentine's Dance for Elementary students 3rd through 5th on February 13 from 3:00-5pm. and Valentine Grams will be sold starting February 5th.

HARMONY SCIENCE ACADEMY PAGE 3 The 7th Annual Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart will take place on February 12, 2015 inside the H.S.A. Gymnasium. All donation envelopes need to be turned in by Feb 11, 2015. Individual and class incentives are taking place as we donate for the American Heart Association to save lives. The class who raises the most money will earn a party for all of their hard work. The student who raises the most money will receive thank you gifts, a certificate and an award for all of their hard work and will be recognized as the top fundraiser. Information will be posted on the schools website as well as news letters to come. For the event we are in need of some parent volunteers to help with supervision as well as donations. We encourage healthy snacks and water and if you are able to donate for the event please bring any items to the front office. We appreciate your support. Online donations are encouraged and you can sign up at heart.org/hoops or heart.org/jump. Upcoming races for the running club members as well as non members any grade any age. Share the Love Valentine's Day 5 -K Run/Walk + 1mile Cupid's Run. Registration closes Feb. 7, 2015. $10 all ages. The 36th Annual Charro Days 5-k & 1 mile run/walk Classic will be held on Feb. 28 at 7:30 am at Washington park. Group of 10 or more $8 on mile only. Notice to Parents: We would like to advise you that students, parents, and family are welcome to all school events. We appreciate your participation and making our events successful. We do ask that parents accompany their children at all times. The school is not responsible for children left unattended. If any child is known to be dropped off at a school event without a parent, the student/s will no longer be able to attend any other school event throughout the school year. If it is a school function that is only for students, such as a school dance, we ask that parents be on time to pick up their child. Harmony Science Academy is asking for donations for their second Annual Yard Sale! Dear parents, H.S.A. PTO will be having their annual Yard Sale, and we are asking for you help. We are currently accepting donations for our Annual Yard sale and would be overjoyed to receive some of your newer and gently used items. (No trash Please!) Just leave your spare items or clothing in a bag or box in the front office. We ll be taking donations from January 13 to January 30, 2015. Thank You so Much!!! H.S.A.
