Full-bodied and medium sweet, with wonderfully integrated tannins and a finish of black pepper and spice. Beautifully balanced, with gorgeous fruit. A new small-production, single-vineyard Port from Vesuvio, one of the great Port estates of the Douro Valley. Taylor's Vintage 2007 W.S.96 115,00 This is a giant of a wine lurking behind fresh flowers and ripe fruit. Starts off in a friendly way, then takes hold of the palate, with intense blueberry and blackberry fruit and chewy yet fine tannins. Mouthpuckering, but impressively complex and long. Really kicks in on the finish. The best Taylor since 1994 Vale Meao Vintage 2007 W.S.92 62,00 Loads of sweet blueberry on the nose, with a wet earth undertone. Full-bodied, with a delicate sweetness and a long, racy finish. Turns chewy. This is subtle and very refined, yet there's a serious hit of fine tannins on the finish

Full-bodied, with medium sweetness and layers of polished tannins. Masses of berry, plum and citrus character. This single-vineyard Port is always superb. Taylor's Vintage 2003 R.P.98+ 119,00 improved each time I raised it to my nose or mouth. It displays a black color and a salty, graphitelaced nose packed with sweet black fruits that is reminiscent of a stellar vintage of Chateau Latour. With air, notes of molasses, burnt sugar, spices, and jammy plums emanate from the glass. Fullbodied, hugely dense, immensely rich, as well as thick, this behemoth is also amazingly balanced and harmonious. Raisins, molasses, licorice, black cherries, plums, and a distinctive note of violets are found in its complex, seamless character. Its interminable finish reveals additional notes of chocolate, kirsch, red as well as black currants, dark cherries, and rose blossoms. Dow's Vintage 2000 R.P.94 79,00 An opaque blue/purple color (typical of this vintage's top offerings) is followed by a strikingly provocative aromatic display (flowers, licorice, blackberries, and cassis). This firmly-structured, classic, tightly-knit, restrained port exhibits brilliant purity as well as impressive intensity. While not the most dramatic or flamboyant, it is a beautiful, classically structured port that will age gracefully. Graham's quinta dos Malvedos Vintage 1999 45,00 Fonseca Vintage 1997 R.P.93 139,00 this dark ruby/purple-colored wine offers a floral, exotic, flamboyant bouquet, a sweet, fleshy style, but not a great deal of weight or massiveness. Heady alcohol, sweet tannin, and a velvety texture make for a gorgeous finish. While I would have preferred to have seen more weight, structure, and intensity, this is an outstanding, albeit lighter than normal Fonseca. Graham's Vintage 1997 W.S.95 109,00 Plum and blackberry on the nose, with hints of dried violets. Wet earth. Full-bodied, medium-sweet, very chewy and rich. Long and caressing. Very layered and structured. Much better than I remember. Impressive.

This is the best Fonseca since 1977, and it's probably even better than that classic vintage--more like the breathtaking 1948. Mind-blowing, with masses of color, aroma and fruit flavor. Smells like fermenting berries, boasting loads of crushed grape, violet and berry character. Big, full-bodied and very sweet, with tons of tannins and a sweet finish. Tannic and huge, it's a long-term, great Port Niepoort's Vintage 1994 W.S.91 129,00 A tightly knit Port with gorgeous plum, berry and earth character on the nose. Inky color, with a very intense, grapy, Syrah-like nose, full-bodied, with full, ripe tannins and plenty of sweet fruit flavors. Extremely long on the finish Graham's Vintage 1985 R.P.96 129,00 Dark color, with intense aromas of blackberry, licorice and hints of flowers. Full-bodied, lightly sweet, with superrefined tannins. Long and caressing. Very youthful. Will improve for a long time. This is really excellent. Always has been. Just starting to come around Niepoort's Vintage 1985 magnum W.S.92 170,00 have tasted some inspiring bottles of the '85, but there may be some bottle variation. Nonetheless, it is a massive wine at its best. Deep purple, with a very jammy, grapy nose, full-bodied, with lots of velvety, sweet fruit flavors and medium tannins Taylor's Vintage 1985 W.S.93 149,00 Medium ruby. Beautiful aromas of flowers and fresh plum, with hints of stems. Full-bodied and medium-sweet, with gorgeous silky tannins and a long, long finish. This is just starting to come around and offers wonderful flavors. Long life ahead, but ready to try. Niepoort's Vintage 1982 W.S.90 125,00 One of the best '82s produced. Very deep ruby with an inky center, extremely ripe berry and grape aromas, full-bodied, with focused, ripe raspberry flavors, full tannins and a long, long finish. Not too sweet Taylor's Vintage 1977 W.S.97 189,00 Good ruby color still. The nose is fresh, with lots of crushed berry and plum, with a hint of piecrust. Full-bodied, with firm tannins and a caressing texture. This delivers loads of complex fruit and spiciness. Medium-sweet. A beauty. Will improve for decades, but why wait?
