Nyssa's Campus Ministry Newsletter September 2015 View this email in your browser Here We Go Again! Only two weeks ago, 5000 first year students arrived on campus in Guelph, ready to embark on a new season in their lives. After some time in team building and training, the IVCF Student Leader Team were ready to welcome these new students to campus and begin a new season of campus ministry. During Orientation Week, we hosted five events - all in hopes to meet new students and invite them to find life abundantly. Orientation Week is always a high-energy & exhausting week, but things haven't slowed down yet! With Club Days, special events, a retreat, and scripture studies ahead, myself and the student leaders will have our hands full and lots of students to follow up with! The student leaders I have the privilege of working alongside of this year, are truly an incredible group of individuals. Victoria, Jayson, Brianne, Amy, Claudia & John are six students who are committed to following Jesus into mission on campus and are excited to invite their peers into a life giving community. This team has already done a fantastic job at offering vision to the various components of ministry on campus. I am pleased to be able to walk alongside of this team and mentor them as they serve campus & call their peers into relationship with Jesus. Please pray for us as we embark on this journey together. Your prayers and support are so valuable to this ministry and we are truly grateful. The student leader team is very new (only one returning member), but they have a lot of
energy and vision to share with others. The student leaders spent an afternoon trying to escape from a locked room at Adventure Rooms! We may not have escaped (it's nice they let you out if you can't figure it out on your own), but it was a fantastic team building exercise! An Invitation to Meet the Nations: World Assembly 2015 I really didn't know what I had said yes to. All I knew was that I would be
attending a conference called World Assembly this summer, that it would be held in Mexico, that there would be attendees from all over the globe, and that I should just say yes to this invitation. Well I'm so incredibly glad I said yes! World Assembly is a conference to gather the member countries of IFES (of which IVCF Canada is a part) to receive training & encouragement, participate in general assembly meetings, and to hear stories of what God is up to on campus' all over the globe. There were over 1000 people in attendance, and over 150 countries represented. What an incredible experience it was to learn alongside of brothers & sisters in campus ministry from all sorts of counties, contexts and challenges. It was both humbling and inspiring. In addition to the tremendous teaching we received and the opportunity to sing songs from all over the world (in all sorts of languages!), a major highlight of my time at World Assembly was the small groups. Each day after the morning plenary session, we would gather in our small groups to reflect and integrate the teaching we had just received. My small group was made up of seven individuals from seven different countries. The only things we had in common were that we all spoke English and that we are all in campus ministry. These are people I now call good friends and am so grateful to have met them. I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to attend World Assembly and to gather with such an inspiring group of ministers. Due to the significance of the conference and the relationships we developed during our time in Mexico, myself & Victoria, the Guelph student who also attended, have begun connecting our fellowship in Guelph with other IFES fellowships from around the world in prayer partnerships. What an honour it is to see these partnerships continue, and to invite other Canadian students to partner in prayer with students around the world who desperately want to see their campus' transformed by the love & power of Christ.
Myself with the other members of my small group at World Assembly (minus one due to country sensitivities). All from different corners of the world, but united by our passion for Christ & campus ministry (and the fact that we all speak English!). Upcoming Event... Share the Joy: Saturday, Sept 26 [7:30-9:00pm] 52 Parkview Ave, North York, ON Share the Joy is an opportunity to celebrate the work God is doing in the lives of university students & to grow support for ministry on campus in Guelph.
