1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Purpose This document illustrates installation instructions for the ZOLL USB Direct Connect Cable under the Windows XP operating system; Windows 2000 and Vista will be slightly different. Windows ME and below (Windows 98SE, 98, and 95) are unsupported with this CDROM. Please be advised that only 32bit versions of Windows 2000, XP, or Vista are supported. 1.2 Scope Once the ZOLL USB Direct Connect Cable has been installed into your laptop, you will then be able to use the ZOLL defibrillator with your laptop. 2 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Note: These instructions illustrate an installation of the ZOLL USB Direct Connect Cable under the Windows XP operating system. Windows 2000 and Windows Vista installation will be slightly different. Windows ME and below (Windows 98SE, 98, and 95) are currently unsupported with this installation CDROM. Prepare your computer system for this installation. Ensure that the ZOLL USB Direct Connect Cable and its installation CDROM are available. 1. Insert the ZOLL USB Direct Connect Cable Installation CDROM into your CDROM drive. Windows 2000, XP and Vista users will view the menu system. When the menu loads, click the Install ZOLL Serial to USB Cable button to proceed. 2. When the ZOLL Serial to USB Cable Drivers Installation menu appears, click the Install Serial to USB Cable Drivers button to continue. Document #: 48x126-ZOLL-003 Page 5 of 7
3. After the drivers for your USB Cable have been copied to your hard drive, click OK to the dialog window. 4. Insert the ZOLL USB Direct Connect Cable into any free USB port attached to your computer system. 5. Your computer system will now detect the presence of the USB cable, and the Found New Hardware Wizard will greet you. Ensure that Install the software automatically [Recommended] is selected, and then click Next to proceed. 6. Your computer system will now scan your system for appropriate installation files. 7. Windows XP will inform you that this software has not passed Windows Logo test. Please be assured that this software will neither impair nor destabilize the operation of your computer system. Simply click Continue Anyway to proceed with the cable installation. 8. At this point, you have now completed the installation of the ZOLL USB Direct Connect Cable. To finalize the installation, please click Finish. 9. The ZOLL USB Direct Connect Cable is now ready for operation. In order to determine which COM port Windows XP has assigned to your cable, the system Device Manager (Ports category) will list its associated COM port. For illustrative purposes, this installation has resulted with the cable being assigned COM 7. For your installation, you may have been assigned a different COM port, as Windows XP will assign your cable the next FREE available COM port on your computer system.
