1 Physio-Control LIFEPAK 12 / 15 and LIFEPAK 500 USB Cable Windows 2000 / XP / Vista Installation Guide NOTE: This USB cable has been tested to comply with FCC and CE certifications. Extending the cable may cause undesirable results. Please be advised that the Physio-Control LIFEPAK 12 / 15 and LIFEPAK 500 USB Cables are only supported for use with 32bit and 64bit versions of Windows 2000, XP, and Vista Operating System Families! The latest drivers for the Physio-Control LIFEPAK 12 / 15 and LIFEPAK 500 USB Cables can be found at this link: ftp://med-driver:[email protected]/ For illustrative purposes, these instructions were prepared using Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista, as the installed operating system base. The Physio-Control LIFEPAK 12 / 15 and LIFEPAK 500 USB Cables can only be installed by a user with Administrator account privileges. Windows 2000 Installation Instructions: 1. To begin the installation of the Physio-Control LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 USB Cable, insert the installation CD into the CDROM drive of your computer system. At this point, insert the Physio- Control LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 USB Cable into any free USB port. Upon cable insertion, the Found New Hardware Wizard will greet you. Click Next to continue.

2 2. When prompted, ensure the Found New Hardware Wizard is set to Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended). Click Next to proceed. 3. You will now be prompted to set the search locations for the driver files. Please ensure CD-ROM drives is selected. Click Next to proceed. 4. The Found New Hardware Wizard will now advise you that it located a driver for the USB Cable. Click Next to proceed. 5. Click Finish to complete the installation of your LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 USB Cable.

3 6. The Physio-Control LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 USB Cable has now been successfully installed. 7. At this point, we suggest you unplug the USB Cable and plug it into each of the USB ports on your computer in turn. This will preset the device up for use with any of your USB ports. 8. You are now ready to configure Code-Stat / DT Express software accordingly. Windows XP Installation Instructions: 1. To begin the installation of the Physio-Control LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 USB Cable, insert the installation CD into the CDROM drive of your computer system. At this point, insert the Physio- Control LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 USB Cable into any free USB port. Upon cable insertion, the Found New Hardware Wizard will greet you. Since you have the installation CDROM, there is no need to connect to Windows Update, ensure No, not this time is selected, then click Next to continue. 2. At this point, ensure Install the software automatically (Recommended) is selected. Then click Next to continue.

4 3. The Found New Hardware Wizard will now scan the CDROM and automatically install the USB cable. During the installation, you will be presented with a dialog box stating the device has not passed Windows Logo testing. Please be assured that the installation of the USB cable will neither impair nor destabilize your system. Click Continue Anyway to proceed. 4. The Found New Hardware Wizard will now copy over the driver file without any user intervention. You will now be advised that the installation process is now complete. Click Finish to complete the installation of the USB cable. 5. The Physio-Control LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 USB Cable has now been successfully installed. 6. At this point, we suggest you unplug the USB Cable and plug it into each of the USB ports on your computer in turn. This will preset the device up for use with any of your USB ports. 7. You are now ready to configure Code-Stat / DT Express software accordingly.

5 Windows Vista Installation Instructions: 1. To begin the installation of the Physio-Control LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 USB Cable, insert the installation CD into the CDROM drive of your computer system. At this point, insert the Physio-Control LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 USB Cable into any free USB port. Upon cable insertion, the Found New Hardware Wizard will greet you. Click Locate and install driver software (recommended) to continue. 2. The Found New Hardware wizard will prompt you if you wish to search online for driver software. Since you have the installation CDROM, there is no need to search online. Please click Don t search online to continue. 3. Ensure the installation CDROM is inserted into your CDROM. Click Next to continue.

6 4. Windows Vista will now scan the CDROM to find the appropriate drivers for the USB Cable. When Vista detects the drivers, Click to Install this driver software anyway to continue. Please be assured that the driver software will in not harm your computer system in any way. 5. At this point, the Found New Hardware Wizard will advise you that your USB Cable has been successfully installed. Click Close to exit the Found New Hardware wizard.

7 Code-Stat / DT Express Configuration, As provided by Rick Kunz, Datacomm Technology Specialist Make sure to disable communications on Code-Stat / DT Express before inserting the cable into the computer. Plug the LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 USB Cable into the computer with Code-Stat / DT Express NOT running. Go to system configuration in Code-Stat / DT Express (or bring up the program, disable communications and go to System Configuration). Leave the LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 USB Cable inserted in the computer (it does not have to be in the LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 for this installation process.) LIFEPAK 12 / 15 Users: As a selectable item, you should observe COM 50 Direct LIFEPAK 500 Users: As a selectable item, you should observe COM 70 Direct Select COM50 for the LIFEPAK 12 / 15, and alternatively select COM70 for the LIFEPAK 500. This is the COM port that will be used by Code-Stat / DT Express no matter which USB connector the cable is physically plugged into. Re-enable Code-Stat / DT Express and you can now plug the cable in to the LIFEPAK 12 / 15 or LIFEPAK 500 and begin data transfer exactly as if a direct-connect (serial null modem) cable was being used. A point to remember is that Code-Stat will drop COM50 (or 70) from the configured ports each time the cable is physically disconnected from the host computer. This is not different from the process that occurs when a USB-Serial adapter is used.
