Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) At WCMC-Q there are tremendous opportunities for students such as myself, seeking to excel and prove themselves. If I wasn t at WCMC-Q I know I wouldn t be able to achieve my dream of becoming a surgeon, something I have been aiming at for the last 12 years. Jowhara Al-Qahtani, Class 2013 Resident - General Sugery: New York Presbyterian Hospital About: WCMC-Q is a branch campus of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York (WCMC-NY), a member of the Ivy League, an elite and prestigious group of universities renowned for their academic excellence, and is the only medical school in Qatar. It is also the only American university to offer an MD degree outside of the United States. The College established academic operations in 2002, and offers a unique, six-year American curriculum, which includes pre-medical and medical education, leading to the same M. D. awarded to graduates of WCMC- NY. Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar (WCMC-Q) Educational Programs: The Pre-medical Program (Two years) The Pre-medical Program is a two-year, non-degree course of study, designed to prepare students to meet the educational requirements of the four-year, degree-awarding Medical Program. WCMC-Q offers the opportunity for a selected number of students to go through a one-year Foundation Program, designed as a pathway to entering the Pre-medical Program. This allows students to study the relevant subjects while they develop the study skills, habits, critical thinking, and knowledge application needed to successfully complete the Pre-medical Program. All Foundation students must complete a Pre-medical Program application. The Medical Program (Four years) In the first two years, the curriculum is composed of five consecutive full time and integrated basic science courses and patient-doctor courses: Medicine, Patients and Society I and II. The clinical curriculum consists of an introduction to clinical clerkships, followed by the traditional third-year clerkship rotations in the principal clinical disciplines, and fourth year selective and elective courses. The four-year Medical Program leads to a Doctor of Medicine degree from Cornell University. Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) We were led to believe from our first day at Texas A&M at Qatar that we are the face of the future. Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMUQ) There aren t enough words to describe the time I spent as a student at Carnegie Mellon, especially when we had two different homes before our own campus building. Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) Northwestern University in Qatar was a clear choice for me because its programs offer the flexibility to learn a wide range of technical and intellectual skills that are needed for a variety of professional careers. After graduation, I joined the Office of the Minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where I work on communication and media projects. In addition to my day job, I co-produced an award-winning documentary entitled Bader, which furthered my interest in filmmaking. In the future, I hope to continue my education in media and law.
