Dr. Kirsten Woodend, Dean, Trent/Fleming School of Nursing OUTSTANDING CURRICULUM The curriculum is built on a strong science base in biology and psychology, and also explores the critical knowledge, theories and concepts underlying nursing as a practice discipline. As an RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organization, best practice guidelines and research are interwoven into course work and into clinical practice placements. Courses are offered in a variety of formats, including lectures, labs, tutorials, seminars, case studies, online learning, simulations and direct clinical practice. Hands-On Approach to Learning Theory and practice occur simultaneously, starting in the first year; students gain practical experience by completing over 1,300 hours of clinical placement. Partnerships with a range of healthcare providers offer students excellent opportunities to develop skills, and to apply and expand on the nursing knowledge learned in the classroom across a variety of clinical settings. The primary focus in the final year is on clinical practice; it is also the time when students pursue the advanced nursing topics in their area(s) of interest or do an undergraduate thesis.

3 Imagine doing what you love in a profession with limitless possibilities Clinical Simulation learning centres State-of-the-art Clinical Simulation Learning Centres are designed to replicate clinical settings, providing students the opportunity to build competence and gain confidence using patient simulators. This is accomplished through the use of clinical case scenarios and faculty guidance that facilitate critical thinking and decision-making. In 2012, the space expanded to increase capacity for both maternal child and community care simulation. Career Opportunities Graduates of the Trent/Fleming School of Nursing experience a high rate of employment and possess the knowledge and skills to work as registered nurses in a range of hospital and community-based health care settings. They are actively recruited by local health care facilities. Many also pursue graduate studies in nursing. The profession continues to expand beyond traditional nursing roles, providing increased career options and flexibility. 4 Admissions Collaborative Program (four years) OUAC application code: RCN The Collaborative program is available to individuals entering from high school or those who have completed some post secondary education. Required courses ENG 4U (minimum 70%) Biology 4U (minimum 65%) Chemistry 4U (minimum 65%) Mathematics any 4U (minimum 65%) Secondary school applicants: a minimum average of 75% calculated on the required courses, plus your next best two 4U/M courses. College applicants: A minimum GPA of 3.0 (75%) in a completed diploma program. Note: Students registered in the Fleming Preparatory Health Science program must achieve an overall average of 75% or better in the completed program to be eligible for admission. Applicants from other Pre-Health Science programs must meet the minimum admission requirements and will be considered for admission on an individual basis. University applicants: A minimum average of 70% calculated on the equivalent to at least one year of full-time study. Compressed Program (28 months) OUAC application code: RFN Applicants who are registered in or have completed at least two years of an undergraduate degree can fast-track to complete their degree in 28 months through the Compressed Program. We encourage applicants from a broad range of disciplines, possessing the following prerequisites: Biology Chemistry Mathematics SBI4U, SCH4U, any 4U Math (minimum 65% each) or a postsecondary credit equivalent (minimum 60%) 1.0 credit in an Introductory Psychology course* 2.0 full credits at the 1000 level (first year) 1.0 full credits at the 2000 level (second year) *applicants with sufficient additional transfer credits may have this course requirement waived for admission. A minimum average of 70% (B-) calculated on the last ten (10) university full course credit equivalents (two years of an undergraduate degree program). How to Apply Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC) Applications for the Trent/Fleming B.Sc.N. program are submitted to the Ontario Universities Application Centre at You do not need to apply through OCAS. Trent s fully integrated B.Sc.N. model means applicants are registered as a university student for the duration of the program. WHAT S NEW: 2012 Trent-George Brown Nursing Bridge Program R.P.N. Bridge to B.Sc.N. Program S122 The R.P.N. Bridge to B.Sc.N. program is open to graduates from any two-year Registered Practical Nursing (RPN) diploma program who are registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Candidates must have a minium GPA of 3.0 (75%), and not less than 70% in nursing courses to be considered for admission. Students who successfully complete all bridging courses through George Brown will be eligible for admission to Trent s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, offered at the George Brown campus.
