2 THE APPLICATION PROCESS New York Institute of Technology requires that each applicant submit the appropriate documents listed below. It is the applicant s responsibility to ensure that the documents needed to complete the application are submitted to the program site director in a timely fashion. Undergraduate Students All of the credentials listed below must be written in English. All translations must be certified and/or notarized and accompanied by official original document(s) as well. 1. Application for Admission Please be sure to indicate starting semester and desired program. Please sign and date the application. 2. Application Fee $50 nonrefundable 3. Transcripts Please provide all of the following that apply to you: a. Final, Official High School Transcripts A final, official transcript showing all work completed at the time of application is required. This report should include certified records of any national examinations required for completion of secondary education (e.g., G.C.E. O levels, I.B., French Baccalaureate, Bagrut, Maturita, Abitur, etc.) outside the U.S. b. Final, Official College Transcripts Required of all applicants who are seeking admission into NYIT. Transfer work completed at another college or university must be documented via an official transcript. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted with your application for use in determining your admission into the college. Final, official transcripts, noting any degrees earned from each institution you attended, must be submitted by the start of the first semester of enrollment. Transfer credit for any prior college work will not be awarded unless official transcripts are filed. International students who attended college/university outside the U.S. may be required to submit their transcripts (and/ or certified translations) for evaluation to World Education Services at wes.org. 4. Identification Please provide a copy of your passport or a national identification card. 5. Portfolio Portfolios may be required for admission to some NYIT programs. If you are applying as a freshman to NYIT s architecture program, you are encouraged to apply without having a portfolio. You will be required to submit an approved portfolio to the academic department at some point before entering your third year of study at NYIT. Applicants to the fine arts program need to submit a portfolio and will be contacted by the department with information about NYIT s portfolio requirements. Please visit nyit.edu/fine_arts/admissions. Transfer students applying to architecture or interior design are required to submit a portfolio. They will undergo a portfolio review by faculty members as required for all transfer applicants seeking transfer credit for desire work. 6. English Proficiency All students must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting TOEFL/IELTS or ELI official scores. 7. Additional Documents Other documents may be necessary. Please see the undergraduate catalog or the site director for more information. NYIT reserves the right to request additional documents if necessary. Students Wishing to Study in the United States If you are admitted to an undergraduate or graduate program at one of NYIT s locations, you are entitled to study at any of NYIT s campuses as well. However, if you wish to spend time in the U.S., additional documentation will be necessary. Affidavit of Support In order to receive an I-20 or DS-2019 from NYIT, international students must provide a duly signed and notarized Affidavit of Support that shows there is adequate financial support to finance your education at NYIT. Bank Statement An original bank statement, written on your bank s stationery, signed, and notarized by a bank officer, and showing available funds in U.S. dollars, must accompany your completed and notarized Affidavit of Support. Copies of bankbooks or monthly statements are not acceptable. 1
