Marketing Manager Job Description FLSA Status: Exempt Reports to: Chief Operating Officer Potential Position Locations: Minneapolis, MN, Dallas, TX or San Francisco, CA Position Summary/Scope: Zelle Hofmann s Marketing Manager is solely responsible for the management of the firm s daily marketing-related activities, including public relations, graphic design, website management, client relations, brand management, internal communication efforts, and promotional/event planning for the firm s five offices and its attorneys. Responsibilities: Below is a brief look into the various activities overseen by the firm s Marketing Manager. 1.) Public Relations Maintaining relationships with media outlets and working to obtain article placements, attorney quotes, and related press regarding the firm s attorneys, areas of practice and diversity-related issues, including the firm s Zealous Women initiative. This position is responsible for tracking hot topics for attorney article development, drafting press releases and brainstorming unique stories for media-related pitches. This position also supports and manages the firm s ongoing guest column spot with leading legal news outlet Law360. Managing the firm s Media Team, including leading their bi-monthly conference calls and producing their Media Team Updates. This position supports the Media Team in their efforts to report office-related news and updates for internal communication and external publicity. Management of the firm s social media outlets, including updating the firm s Facebook and LinkedIn pages. This position is responsible for the creation of content in order to keep these outlets fresh and forward thinking. This position also coordinates the relationship between the firm and its social media news distribution service to ensure the firm s news is effectively
distributed to their audience. Tracking and managing various awards to increase the visibility of the firm and the firm s attorneys. This position is responsible for drafting all submissions, meeting respective submission deadlines and coordinating communication between the award contact(s) and the firm. Seeking various public speaking engagements for the firm s attorneys. This position is responsible for actively soliciting speaking engagements on behalf of the firm s attorneys and working with respective attorneys to ensure they receive the marketing-related assistance required to fulfill each engagement (compilation of PowerPoints, handouts, promotional items, etc.) Management of the firm s news alerts and newsletters. This position works with the firm s Zealous Women to compile their annual A Year in Review newsletter and manages the drafting and design of the firm s breaking news alerts. Tracking client/prospect news of interest. This position is responsible for keeping abreast of news pertaining to the firm s top clients and prospects. News of potential impact to the firm or the firm s client teams will be reported to the respective attorney(s). 2.) Website Management Management of the firm s two websites, zelle.com and zealouswomen.com, including content creation and development. Zelle.com: This position consistently works to locate and draft news of interest for publication on the firm s News section and ensures the existing content throughout the site is forward thinking and up to date, including updating attorney biographies, practice area pages, home page content/news scroll, and additional content throughout the site (i.e. Diversity, Awards & Recognition, Litigation Technology, etc.). This position manages the payment of the site s hosting services and works with site developer on all design-related requests. Zealouswomen.com: This position works closely with the firm s female attorneys to ensure the firm s ZW site is forward thinking and up-to-date. This position assists in the planning of meetings with the firm s female
attorneys to discuss diversity-related issues, including the ZW site. The Marketing Manager is responsible for ensuring new content is added to the site, including Spotlights, firm-related news items, events, and external news items of interest. This position manages the payment of the site s hosting services and works with site developer on all design-related requests. Management of the firm s Martindale-Hubbell account, including all attorney biography changes and updates. 3.) Advertising Manage the message development, design and production of the firm s one-off sponsorship advertisements. This position works with the firm s attorneys to develop various advertisements in association with the firm s sponsorships and ensures the timely submission of such placements. This position ensures the firm s brand is properly reflected in all firm advertisements and is responsible for the submission of the firm s logo for related events. 4.) Internal Communication and Various Administrative Support Manage the bi-monthly creation and dissemination of the firm s Business Development and Marketing Update sent to the firm s attorneys and support staff to aid in firm wide business development awareness and collaboration. Support the firm s administration with various internal graphic design and promotional requests. Other duties as requested. 5.) Brand Management Ensure the firm s brand and related messaging is accurately promoted and communicated internally and externally. This position manages the firm s branded templates, including PowerPoint and print collateral, oversees distribution of the firm s logo, and ensures the firm s marketing promotional items are stocked in each of the firm s offices. This position serves as the point of contact between the firm and its various print/promotional supply outlets. 6.) Brochure and RFP Requests
The Marketing Manager works with the firm s attorneys to develop the firm s brochures (both print and electronic) and requests for proposals. This entails the editing, collation and timely dissemination of such materials. Some requests require immediate turnaround, so the ability to multitask and work under a tight deadline is critical. This position also assists the firm s attorneys with competitive intelligence requests and works to pull such requests on current and prospective clients. Requirements: Working knowledge of graphic design programs, including InDesign and Photoshop, social media outlets, including LinkedIn and Facebook. Understanding of the marketing concept and needs and expectations of clients. Solid research skills. Experience with website editing programs and HTML coding. In-depth knowledge of legal writing and must possess a strong editorial background. Strong Internet research skills and website marketing experience. Strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to graphic design programs, must have a proficient level of performance with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Basic knowledge of Interaction helpful but not required. Ability to handle multiple projects through strong organizational skills. Forward thinker who is quick on his/her feet and attentive to detail. Ability to multitask and meet multiple deadlines at one time. Strong customer service attitude. Proven ability to be resourceful in problem-solving. Ability to effectively perform independently and within a team. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of internal and external contacts.
Flexibility to work some overtime, as needed, to meet goals, objectives and client service needs. Demonstrated ability from previous roles to operate in a "whatever it takes" mode. Education and Experience: 1. At least 5-7 years previous marketing communications experience including project coordination, research, desktop publishing, and website content management, preferably in a law firm or other professional service firm. 2. Bachelor's Degree in journalism, marketing, communications or related field or a combination of education and experience preferred, but not required.
