Summary of the broad purpose of the position The School Registered Nurse/Midwife Provides holistic, nursing/ midwifery services to those who attend the school, including students, boarders and staff, in a primary health care setting. Consolidates knowledge and skills and develop in capability through continuous professional development and experience. Accepts accountability for own standards of nursing/midwifery care, including responsibilities delegated to other health care staff. 2. Reporting/Working Relationships The Registered Nurse/Midwife Reports to the Principal. Works collaboratively with all members of the School Leadership Team. Maintains cooperative and productive working relationships within all members of the health care and school team. Provides leadership and supervision to nursing employees, and/or other health care providers within the School.

3. Special Conditions The appointee will be subject to a National Criminal History Check prior to confirmation of appointment. The incumbent may be required to enter into an annual performance agreement for the achievement of (specific or service or program) outcomes. Will be required to maintain current Mandatory Notification Training. Must obtain Senior First Aid and Advanced First Aid Certificates within a time frame to be determined in consultation with the Principal. Some out of hour work may be required. 4. Key Responsibilities/Activities and Outcomes 4.1 Assists with the provision of professional high quality health care service 4.1.1 Improving nursing/midwifery care practices by: - Providing direct nursing/midwifery care and/or individual case management to student/staff, including overseeing and administering prescribed medication to students/staff, in accordance with legal requirements and School Policy; supporting the special needs students toileting and personal hygiene needs as required; - Providing first aid assistance for students and staff; - Assessing individual student/staff needs, planning and implementing or coordinating appropriate service delivery; - Communicating effectively with parents/guardians, on medical issues concerning students and/or boarders, and co-ordinating student medical management plans, as required; - Liaising with Boarding House staff regarding the health needs, treatment and well-being of boarders; - Planning and coordinating services as required in meeting individual s health care needs, i.e. organising and promoting Immunisation Programmes for students; confirming and maintaining records of all medical appointments (and transport arrangements) made for boarders, as and when required; - Maintaining all Health Centre records in a professional manner and in line with legislative requirements (for all boarding students, maintaining separate documentation files of all individuals, updated annually containing medical histories, medication details and travel consents); - Providing health counselling, health education and acting in a resource capacity to the school community, to improve the health outcomes of students/staff; - Providing a counselling presence of the Girls and Boys Boarding House, as when required; - Providing assistance in the provision of Health, Pastoral Care and Personal Development training for students on Middle and Senior School campuses; - Maintaining professional standards and high level of confidentiality; - Proactively promote good health within the School environment, to students and staff.

4.1.2 Contributing to the human resource management by: - Reviewing decisions, assessments and recommendations from less experienced staff, and other members of the School Health Care Team; - Providing support and guidance to less experienced health care team members, Senior First Aiders, First Aiders, staff, teachers, volunteers and others; - Liaising with Human Resources Management team, to ensure all staff maintain required first aid certification and that adequate records are kept; - Delivering first aid refresher and emergency first aid management training (including CPR, Asthma and Epipen) to staff, and maintain associated records; - Providing assistance in policies and procedures review and development, relevant to the School Health Centre. 4.1.3 Contributing to the material management by: - Maintaining the School s first aid equipment and consumable supplies including, but not limited to, all first aid kits throughout the School; - Organising and supplying first aid equipment and medications for school camps, excursions and retreats; - Managing the School s Health Centre efficiently and purchase of all school medical supplies cost effectively. 4.2 Contributes to the achievement of best practice and where relevant, facilitates the development and application of relevant research by: Participating in quality assurance and/or evaluative research activities within the school setting. Using foundation theoretical knowledge and evidence based guidelines and applying these to a range of activities to achieve agreed outcomes. 4.3 Contributes to the achievement of professional expertise through ongoing personal professional development: Continuing own professional development, seek learning opportunities.
