News Release To: Editors For immediate release Hong Kong Celebrates 10 Years of the CENTRAL Rat Race Giant fitness activities, exciting game booths help the next generation get in the spirit as popular charity event raises HK$3.23 million for MINDSET HONG KONG, 25 th October 2015 This morning marked the 10 th running of the CENTRAL Rat Race, and the community was out in full force as costumed runners and exuberant spectators helped the popular event achieve excellent results. Over 500 participants competed in a variety of categories, bringing energy to the streets of CENTRAL and raising a record-breaking HK$3.23 million for MINDSET, a registered charity that supports mental health initiatives in Hong Kong and mainland China. Hongkong Land has organised the CENTRAL Rat Race every year since 2006, building it into one of the Company s signature community outreach initiatives. The Race takes place in the heart of Hong Kong, winding through CENTRAL s famous shopping streets, Grade A office buildings and interconnected walkways. The innovative race course is also famous for its creative obstacles, which parody the challenges corporate executives face in the business world. Speaking at the Race, Mr Y K Pang, Chief Executive of Hongkong Land, said, Over the past nine years, the CENTRAL Rat Race has become one of the city s most important charity events. The Race s 10 th anniversary celebrations represent the perfect opportunity to engage the whole community especially the next generation - to nurture a charitable spirit among our young people, and spark a passion for health and fitness. We couldn t be happier to see so many families and members of the community gathered here today. Mr Ben Keswick, Chairman of MINDSET, said, We are honoured that the CENTRAL Rat Race has continued to support MINDSET. MINDSET s contributions have had a profoundly positive effect on our beneficiary organisations and the thousands of people in Hong Kong and mainland China who are affected by mental illness. I would like to thank everyone who has helped make the CENTRAL Rat Race such a success, and we look forward to many more exciting Race Days in the future. The CENTRAL Rat Race comprises four race categories: the main relay-style Rat Race for corporate teams of eight executives each; the Big Rat Race for individual senior executives; the NGO Rat Race for two service users from local NGOs active in the mental health sector; and the Junior Rat Race for children between the ages of five and 10. Participants wear fancy costumes and running shoes as they try to navigate the eight-leg obstacle course, which features new challenges each year. - more - Issued by: Hongkong Land Limited Incorporated in Bermuda with limited liability 8th Floor, One Exchange Square, Central, Hong Kong www.hkland.com
