1. The Egieerig Data Maagemet (EDM) module i BaaERP The EDM cocept as applied i BaaERP. EDM s fuctioal procedures. The modules related to EDM. The fuctioality of busiess objects i EDM. 1.1 The EDM cocept as applied i BaaERP Whe you maufacture a product, you ot oly eed to keep track of all the compoet items used to make that product but also all the prototypes ad obsolete items that you develop (see Figure 4 i Sectio 2.1). You must also be able to copy these developmet items to actual productio items. Egieerig Data Maagemet (EDM) provides you with tools to carry out the procedures to maage developmet items. If you develop a chage to a compoet item, you ca use EDM to implemet that chage i every productio item i which the compoet occurs. You ca either idividually copy egieerig items ad their bills of materials to productio items ad productio BOMs, or you ca carry out several actios at the same time usig egieerig chage orders (ECOs). Figure 1 shows how the EDM module is positioed withi BaaERP. The Egieerig Data Maagemet (EDM) module i BaaERP 1.2 EDM s fuctioal procedures To create a item i EDM To create a BOM i EDM To maage egieerig data usig ECOs EDM cotais a fuctioal procedure that eables you to create a maufactured or purchased item. To perform this fuctio first create a developmet item, ad take that item through the various stages of developmet (see Figure 4, E-item revisios). Next, copy the revisio that you wat to maufacture to a ew or existig maufactured or purchased item. You ca use EDM to create a productio BOM. To perform this fuctio first create a Egieerig BOM (EBOM), ad the copy the EBOM to a ew or existig productio BOM. A EBOM ca have both E-items ad productio items as compoets. Whe you copy E-items to productio items or EBOMs to productio BOMs, you ca idividually copy each item or BOM (usig the above procedures), or you ca simultaeously carry out multiple copyig actios. You perform this fuctio with Egieerig Chage Orders (ECOs), which ca be used i a automatic or semi automatic mode. 1.3 The modules related to EDM Figure 2 shows the modules that are related to EDM. PUR XCH EDM BOM IBD IPD WH PCS Figure 2 The modules related to EDM Because EDM is used to maage developmet data, it is ot directly related to may other modules. Item or BOM data created i EDM is first exported to the Bills of Material (BOM) ad Item Base Data (IBD) modules ad the to the Item Productio Data (IPD) or Purchase Cotrol (PUR) modules. Items i IBD ca also be used to make a EBOM. However, you ca import CAD drawigs usig the Baa Exchage (XCH) module. A egieerig item caot have a Project segmet. However, you ca lik a Project to a E-item ad, after it is copied to a productio item, the project is the default value i the Project segmet of the copied item. Egieerig Data Maagemet 1-2

The Egieerig Data Maagemet (EDM) module i BaaERP 1.4 The fuctioality of EDM s busiess objects EDM cotais the followig busiess objects: Egieerig Master Data. Egieerig Items ad EBOMs. Egieerig Item relatioships. Copy Egieerig Items ad EBOMs. ECO Master Data. ECO Data. ECO Cotrol. The Egieerig Data Maagemet (EDM) module i BaaERP Egieerig Item Data Use the egieerig Master Data BO to: Defie drawig sizes ad locatios. Defie Egieerig Item Groups. E-items ad EBOMs Use the E-items ad EBOMs to: Defie, edit, ad prit Egieerig Item (E-item) Revisios. Defie, edit, ad prit Egieerig Bills of Material (EBOMs). Archive E-items ad EBOMs. Egieerig Item relatioships Use this BO to defie ad edit liks betwee E-item revisios ad productio items ad to specify the method of updatig the lik (that is, if the lik is updated, froze, or broke). Copy E-Items ad EBOMs Use the copy E-items ad EBOMs to: Copy E-items to productio items. Copy EBOMs to productio BOMs. Geerate multilevel EBOMs. Check the cosistecy betwee E-item revisios ad productio items. Check the cosistecy betwee EBOMs ad productio BOMs. ECO Master Data Use ECO Master Data BO to: Defie ECO procedures ad their steps. Defie reasos for usig a ECO. ECO Data Use ECO Data BO to: Defie the actios that a ECO will carry out. Defie the items that the ECO will affect. ECO Cotrol Use the ECO Cotrol BO to: Maage the ECO approval process. Process the chages specified i ECO. Geerate EBOMs with ECOs. Fialize copyig E-items ad EBOMs. Egieerig Data Maagemet 1-4

2. The procedure to create a item usig EDM This chapter describes: The mai procedure, especially the way to create a egieerig item ad copy it to a productio item (IBD). If you wat to copy several items at oce, use a ECO procedure (see Chapter 4). The sessios that are related to the mai procedure: To create egieerig item groups. To maage egieerig drawigs. 2.1 How to create a item usig EDM EDM maages items usig differet revisios of each item, which eables you to develop the desig of a item ad copy the results to a productio item. Documet Prototype Productio model Previous model Obsolete model Productio Item Figure 4 Egieerig Item Revisios The procedure s results The procedure results i a series of developmet items (E-item revisios), of which oe is copied to a actual productio (IBD) item. Egieerig Items (tiedm0510m000) Use this step to create a ew E-item. Eter the details i the Egeeerig Items (tiedm0110s000) details sessio. You must also assig the E-Item to a E-Item group (see Sectio 2.3). The ew E-item cotais basic data (for example, size ad weight), but does ot cotai the followig data: Effective date. Expiry date. Drawigs. Egieerig Data Maagemet 2-2

The procedure to create a item usig EDM Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 E-item Revisios (tiedm1500m000) Create a revisio for the E-item. Revisios are versios of items, each versio beig replaced by a ew versio durig successive stages i developmet (see Figure 4).You ca create ew revisios by copyig existig revisios. Revisios do ot have to be physical items; they ca be a documet. You ca attach a graphic file to the revisio i this step. The folder (directory) that you use for storig graphic files ca be defied i the EDM Parameters (tiedm0100s000) sessio. A E-item revisio ca have oe of three statuses: Not Released. Released. Caceled. A Released revisio ca be reset to Not Released, but ot (directly) Caceled. Modify Revisios? Whe you develop ew versios of your egieerig item, you ca defie them as ew revisios. Whe you are ready to use a revisio as a productio item, you must release the revisio. E-item/Item Relatioship (tiedm1501m000) Before you ca copy your released E-item revisio to a productio item, you must form a relatioship (that is, a lik) betwee the revisio ad the item. You ca either make this relatioship with a existig item, or eter a ew item. If the item does ot already exist, BaaERP will create it i the ext step (if you aswer Yes whe prompted). This sessio is optioal. You ca use Step 5 to automatically create the relatioships. Copy E-item to Item (tiedm1201m000) Use this step to copy the data that defies your E-item revisio to a ew or existig productio item. If the item does ot exist, BaaERP will create it. E-item ad Item Cosistecy (tiedm1521m000) You ca use this optioal step to check that basic data of the ew or revised productio item is the same as the origial egieerig item. Item Base Data (IBD) The ew or existig item that you have created or modified is stored i IBD. You ca the use this item i Item Productio Data (IPD) for maufactured items or Purchase Cotrol (PUR) for purchase items. For maufactured items, you must also defie or copy a bill of material (see Chapter 3). After the item is stored i IBD, you ca defie other data such as orderig data ad warehouse data. Egieerig Data Maagemet 2-3

The procedure to create a item usig EDM 2.2 To defie documet sizes ad locatios A egieerig item revisio ca be either a physical item or a documet (Figure 4) that is either a drawig or a set of istructios accompay the E-item. EDM provides two optioal steps to maage documets, as you ca see i Figure 6. A Drawig Sizes tiedm0102m000 1 Egieerig Items tiedm0510m000 Yes B Drawig Locatios tiedm0103m000 2 E-item revisios tiedm1500m000 3 Modify Revisios? I the Egieerig Items (tiedm0510m000) sessio, you ca defie to which defied size the drawig coforms. Drawig Locatios (tiedm0103m000) You ca use this step to defie drawig locatios (for example, Cupboard i Room 101, Top Left A723). I the Egieerig Item Revisios (tiedm1500m000) sessio, you ca defie i which of the defied locatios a drawig is stored. I the EDM Parameters (tiedm0100s000) sessio, you ca defie the folder where EDM graphic files are stored (for example, C:\EDM\gif). You ca also attach a graphic file to a E-Item revisio (see Step 2 of Chapter 2, The procedure to create a item usig EDM). Egieerig Data Maagemet 2-4

The procedure to create a item usig EDM 2.3 To defie egieerig item groups If you have large umbers of egieerig items, the easiest way to keep track of them is if you place related E-items i the same group. You must defie these groups i the Egieerig Item Groups (tiedm0101m000) sessio (see Step C, i Figure 7, below. You must defie a egieerig item group eve if you use the same group for all your E-Items. 3. The procedure to create a Bill of Material usig EDM A bill of material (BOM) is a list of the compoet parts of a item (Figure 8). Bicycle (ed item) Saddle Drive 2 Forks Hadlebars Frame 2 Wheels Figure 8 Diagramatic bill of material Figure 8 oly shows a sigle level. All parts that are ot purchased will also have their ow bill of material (for example, the wheel is composed of spokes, a rim, a hub, ad so o). The compoets of a egieerig bill of material (EBOM) ca be either E-items or productio items. There are three major differeces betwee a EBOM ad a productio BOM: A EBOM has o iformatio about which operatios use the compoets. A EBOM uses revisios to deal with alterative compoets whereas a productio BOM uses sequece umbers. A EBOM ca have ophysical compoets (for example, drawigs). Egieerig Data Maagemet 3-1

The procedure to create a Bill of Material usig EDM The procedure to create a productio BOM from egieerig data is show i Figure 9. 1 Egieerig BOM tiedm1510m000 2 Egieerig BOM tiedm1110s000 3 Add ew compoet? You must start by defiig the ed item. See the bills of material (BOM) module procedure for more details. Egieerig BOM (tiedm1110s000) Add the compoet items to the bill of material. These items ca be E-items or productio items. Add ew compoet? Cotiue to add ew items to the EBOM util the product structure is completed. Egieerig Data Maagemet 3-2

The procedure to create a Bill of Material usig EDM Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Paret E-items already copied? The paret items of the EBOM must already be released ad copied to productio Items. If ot, use Step 5 to copy the E-items. Otherwise, go to Step 6. You do ot eed to copy all the compoet E-items, though they must all be released. Copy E-items to Items (tiedm1201m000) This actio is the same as Step 5 i the procedure to create a item usig EDM (sectio 2.1). If you have ot carried out the other steps i that procedure for the compoet items of the EBOM, You should cosider carryig out those steps ow. This step is ot required for maufactured items whose iitial revisios have bee released. Geerate EBOM Copy Data (tiedm1230m000) Use this step to set up the data that EDM will use to copy the EBOM to a productio BOM. If you just wat to set up copy data for a sigle-level of a BOM at this step, you ca use the EBOM Copy Data (tiedm2510m000) sessio. You ca also view the geerated copy data i the EBOM Copy Data (tiedm2510m000) sessio. Note that the EBOM is ot actually copied i this step.
