Pediatric Nure Practitioner Program Pediatric Clinical Nure Specialit Program Dual Pediatric Nure Practitioner / Clinical Nure Specialit Program UCLA School of Nuring Overview: The Pediatric Nure Practitioner (PNP) i a Regitered Nure educated at the Mater level a a nure practitioner. The focu of care for the PNP i newborn to young adult up to 1 year of age. The PNP i educated to provide continual and comprehenive wellne and illne care by providing preventive health ervice, patient education, dieae management and illne prevention. The PNP i prepared to implement evidence-baed practice guideline and to critically analyze and adapt health care intervention baed on individualized aement of child / family need. The PNP practice in the context of community, with broad knowledge, enitivity and awarene of the pecific need of people from divere population and cultural background. An additional option within the program i pecialization a a clinical nure pecialit. Dual preparation a both a nure practitioner and clinical nure pecialit i alo available. Nure Practitioner Role and Preparation The Pediatric Nure Practitioner provide advanced nuring care acro the continuum of healthcare ervice to meet the pecialized phyiological and pychological need of children and their familie. The PNP provide comprehenive wellne and illne care. They perform comprehenive health aement, order and interpret diagnotic tet and procedure, ue differential diagnoi to reach a medical diagnoi, contruct and order a plan of care, and evaluate the outcome of intervention for patient. Clinical Nure Specialit Role and Preparation The Pediatric Clinical Nure Specialit intervene in the individual patient/family phere, a nure-nuring practice phere, and the organization-ytem phere to influence patient outcome. Their activitie pan dimenion of care: clinical judgment, clinical inquiry, facilitation of learning, collaboration, ytem thinking, advocacy/moral agency, caring practice, and repone to diverity. Clinical Nure Specialit perform comprehenive health aement, interpret diagnotic tet and procedure within their area of expertie, provide expert conultation to other health care provider, upport organizational goal, evaluate application of reearch to clinical practice within an organizational etting, provide formal and informal multidiciplinary education, and provide leaderhip, mentoring and guidance to taff nure. Dual Preparation in Nure Practitioner and Clinical Nure Specialit Role With approval of the faculty, tudent may complete coure work for both NP and CNS role in the Pediatric Nure Practitioner Program. Thy mut complete all theory and clinical coure for both role. Pleae Note: 500 CNS clinical hour are now required to enure eligibility to it for the certification exam. Program Goal The goal of the UCLA School of Nuring Pediatric Nure Practitioner program i to prepare nure to aume an advanced practice role in the care of newborn to young adult. The PNP will be able to provide comprehenive wellne and illne care through preventive health ervice, patient education, acute illne and chronic dieae management. The goal of the Pediatric Clinical Nure Specialit program i to prepare nure to aume an advanced practice

role in the care of newborn to young adult with acute or chronic illne and with high-intenity nuring and medical need. Education: Mater of Science in Nuring Credential (depending on role): Eligible for the Pediatric Nuring Certification Board (PNCB) certification exam a a Pediatric Nure Practitioner. Eligible for the American Nure Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification exam a a Pediatric Nure Practitioner Eligible for the American Nure Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification exam a a Pediatric Clinical Nure Specialit Eligible for precriptive authority in all 50 tate with retriction a pecified by tate Type of Care Provided by Pediatric Nure Practitioner: Well-child primary care Epiodic care for acute condition, including minor acute injurie and common illnee Management of chronic condition uch a diabete and athma. Monitoring and cae management/conultation of more acute or complex medical condition uch a cardiac, eizure or neuromucular diorder.
