Discussion group: Dance as a part of every day life at school would that be possible? Jousisto, rd floor, Kuopio Music Centre This group discusses often the reality of dance at schools: how the dance happens usually as projects, not as a permanent subject in the curriculum. What are the ways to make dance happen at school? Who should teach it: a dance teacher, a school teacher, a choreographer? What kind of dance should be taught? Is dance technique a relevant issue in this context? What makes the dance at schools approachable and enjoyable to the students? The issues are discussed through examples on best practices on dance at schools. Moderator: Katri Nirhamo (M.Ed., dance teacher and primary school teacher, Pääskyvuori School, Turku, Finland) Speakers: Antje Klinge (Assistant Professor, Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Institut für Sportwissenschaft, Germany), Veronica Jobbins (Head of Professional and Community Development, Education and Community Programme, Laban,UK), Cathrine Bull Thorshaug (dance teacher, Dans i Skolen, Norway) and Maria Speth (dance pedagogue, freelance, Maastricht Conservatory, Fontys Teacher Training College, the Netherlands). Lecture and discussion: Empowering and Taming Girls in Physical Education Auditorio, nd floor, Kuopio Music Centre Ph.D. Jaana Parviainen, Adjunct Professor, Researcher, University of Tampere, Finland In this lecture, Jaana Parviainen raises a question about girls Physical Education. In the public and media, there is often discussion about boys problems at schools, but rarely about girls. Within Physical Education, there are often campaigns to attract boys towards different sports. Where are the girl campaigns? Why isn t there any discussion about school making girls too kind and obedient? Can one draw parallels between equality in the society in general and within Physical Education? Could we find a common factor between girls Physical Education and the lack of female leaders in the corporate sector? What are the features that empower and tame girls in Physical Education? Jaana Parviainen is a docent and researcher at the University of Tampere in Finland. Her Ph.D Dissertation is a phenomenological analysis: Bodies Moving and Moved. A Phenomenological Analysis of the Dancing Subject and the Cognitive and Ethical Values of Dance Art, Tampere University Press,.

Wednesday Jun continued. Sharing session: Co-operation between schools and dance institutions (theatres, production houses etc.) Kamarimusiikkisali, nd floor, Kuopio Music Centre This sharing session concentrates on the issue of co-operation between schools and dance institutions. How does the co-operation between schools and dance institutions work in different countries? Are there certain cases it works better than in the others? Moderator: Katarina McAlester (Artistic Director, JoJo - Oulu Dance Centre, Lecturer of Dance, Theatre Academy of Finland, Department of Dance and Theatre Pedagogy) Speakers: Martina Kessel (Project Co-ordination Take-off: Junger Tanz, Tanzplan Deutschland, tanzhaus nrw, Düsseldorf, Germany), Anne Mette Berg (Producer/marketing/PR, Dansescenen, Copenhagen, Denmark), Katja Kirsi (Education and Outreach, Zodiak Center for New Dance, Helsinki, Finland), Anne Holck Ekenes (MA, Artistic Director of Panta Rei Danseteater, Performing Arts Officer for the county of Akershus, Norway), Ådne Sekkelsten (Managing Director, The Norwegian Touring Network for Performing Arts, Norsk scenekunstbruk, Norway).
