It is a blended program using online support and resources with only 7 days of masterclasses in one block of study. This is designed to serve an international group as we are looking for a wide representation across organizational, business and professional sectors. The program will be centered in the UK though we expect the attendance element of the program to be widened in other global regions in the future. The goal of the BAII Certificate is to provide a six-module foundation that will include: Ø *Emotional Skills and Competencies Ø *Evaluating Truthfulness and Credibility Ø The Anatomy of the Face (FACS) Ø Attentiveness and Mindfulness Ø Psychophysiology Ø Investigative Interviewing and Conversation Management. These post-graduate level modules will be delivered in a blended, modular format using texts, workbooks and other media plus online resources and support so as to minimize travel, accommodation and time away from work and home. The program not only draws from wide professional and academic contexts, it also leads onto research and real world applications in the final year across a diverse spectrum to take this science into the many professional sectors that need it. *Those who have good passes in these specific modules, with any of our Paul Ekman International approved centers, will be given credit against those modules of the program. The first stage of the program involves a mix of study methods including 7 days attendance as follows: 1. Emotional Skills and Competencies (ESaC) is a 2-day concentrated course that requires attendance at one of our Paul Ekman International Licensed Delivery Centers around the world. A knowledge test/assignment must be submitted and passed at 65%+ for this module. 2. Evaluating Truthfulness and Credibility (ETaC) is a 3-day course that also requires attendance at one of our Paul Ekman International Licensed Delivery Centers around the world. Some centers are offering these together. A knowledge test/assignment must be submitted and passed at 65%+ for this module also. 3. Face and Emotion (F&E) is offered as an online, supported course with forums and group support. Students must acquire the FACS Manual and study the first 3 chapters before starting the online process. An external test is advised so delegates become FACS Certified though you will also have to complete an internal test and submit an assignment in addition to pass this module. 4. Attentiveness and Mindfulness (A&M) does not require attendance. It involves study of texts and use of CDs. Delegates will keep a log of sessions with reflective notes for the assessment of this part of the module. 5. Psychophysiology (PP) is by home study/texts with an assignment relating to a field of work that interests you. 6. Investigative Interviewing and Conversation Management (IICM) is a 2-day workshop helping you to integrate your skills and will include tutorial work as you prepare for final assessment. Tutorial support Once you register on the full BAII Certificate will be assigned a personal tutor to support and guide you through the development and the assessment components. There will be reviews with you using online tools that you are comfortable with (e.g. Skype). Stage 2 of the program will follow a similar format with blocks of workshops at MMU covering the core modules, though this phase is primarily dissertation based and options for online and face-to-face support with your research and dissertation will be discussed with you during the program.
Cert in BAII...FAQs: Where are the workshops? Most are in the Manchester area either at the MMU or in a airport hotel venue. What s included in the fees? All workshops and workshop materials, refreshments during the sessions. tutorial support, assignment setting/marking and certification. What about accommodation? Not included, but our team are on hand to help you find suitable accommodation near to the workshops. Who will run the sessions and support? All staff for stage one are approved by the Emotional Intelligence Academy. Tutors for the first 2 modules (ESaC and ETaC) are also Paul Ekman approved see: www.ekmaninternational.com. How many days attendance are required in year one? 7 days in total a core program blocks of 7 days is set though alternative dates and coaching for some modules may be available where dates clash for you. What computer equipment will I need? Any modern computer that has internet access will be fine. Further guidance will be provided to successful applicants. What is needed to pass the BAII Certificate? Full attendance at the workshops plus continuous assessment during and following each module. This means you know how you are doing as you go along. There are no end-of-year exams in Stage 1. What options are there for Stage 2? MMU recognizes EIA modules as appropriate qualifications to GUARANTEE direct entry into the Diploma/Masters Degree. Why have you launched this initiative? We see strong potential for professionals in forensic emotional awareness/intelligence and deception detection though there are no immersive, comprehensive courses designed for this market. Applications NOW Open for the EIA Certificate IN BAII Cert in BAII This is a unique program and we will limit the cohort to 20 people with support groups of between 3-6 delegates. We are keen to attract a range of applicants to enrich the experience for all from: diverse cultures and backgrounds UK and overseas a range of social, occupational and professional backgrounds multiple academic disciplines from psychology, law enforcement, security, sociology, forensics, criminology communications, leadership, therapy, entertainment, animation and medicine. This is designed at Post-Graduate level and so applicants will need to convince us that they have the time, motivation and ability to study at this level. Successful applicants will probably have a degree (or equivalent) already, though we will accept those with significant experience in related fields depending on the strength of your applications and an interview (online or face-to-face). We are very keen to attract those who have a clear goal for this program either in terms of focused, in-depth research for the third stage or for application in their current or future career. You will need a good level of English to cope with the study (a test may be required e.g. IELTS level 6.5 or equivalent*) and you will also need to be comfortable with internet and email use. Skype (or similar conference calling) will be used as well as AdobeConnect. *Those with lower than 6.5 IELTS score can opt for a pre-sessional English Language course at MMU s Language Centre during Stage 2 they also offer in-sessional support alongside and concurrent with studies. PRogression: Those who complete and pass the Stage 1 with EIA by 15 December 2015 are GUARANTEED entry onto stage 2 of the Masters Degree with MMU in 2016 subject to the IELTS conditions above and subject to MMU validation (pending).
