204-205 SCHOOL YEAR BACK TO SCHOOL NEWS & INFORMATION SPEEDYPASS Online Registration Available! Last year, Columbus City Schools (CCS) opened its Central Enrollment Center, creating a one-stop shop for parents and guardians enrolling their children in CCS. The Central Enrollment Center greatly streamlined the enrollment process. This year, we ve gone even further! Columbus City Schools has created the SpeedyPass online registration system, where parents and guardians can complete almost all of the paperwork needed to enroll a student in the District in advance! It s estimated that most families can complete the online enrollment process in just a few minutes. Once parents complete online registration on the SpeedyPass system, they still need to visit the Central Enrollment Center, but it s a quick visit to provide verification of identification and residency, and to finalize the enrollment process. All students who are either new to the District, or those who must attend a different school due to a change in address must complete the enrollment process. The Central Enrollment Center is open from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with appointments and extended hours also available. The Central Enrollment Center is located at 430 Cleveland Avenue, on the Fort Hayes Metropolitan Education Center Campus, just north of Columbus State Community College. There is plenty of free parking and COTA bus service is available along Cleveland Avenue. NOTICE: To ensure your child is enrolled for classes well in advance, and services such as transportation and special education services can be scheduled, please enroll him/her now! Waiting until the last minute will most assuredly lead to long waits and scheduling/service delays. For access to the SpeedyPass system go to www.ccsoh.us/enrollment. For enrollment questions or to schedule an appointment, call: (64) 365-40. STUDENT SAFETY & WELLNESS TRANSPORTATION Transportation Call Center: (64) 365-5074 As students will be WALKING, or traveling by BIKE, AUTOMOBILE, or BUS their safety while navigating to and from school, as well as extra-curricular activities, is very important to us all. Students who will walk or ride their bikes to school are encouraged to observe all laws intended to keep pedestrians and cyclists safe, such as: crossing streets only at crosswalks, and adhering to traffic signals and signs. Also, parents, guardians, and students should avoid distractions while engaged in any means of driving. For students who will ride a bus during 204-205, a snap-pull Bus Assignment notice will be mailed to eligible riders by mid-august. Columbus City Schools provides transportation for elementary and middle school students who are eligible for transportation and whose school is more than two miles from their home address. Assigned stops may be up to one-half mile from the student s home. High school students who are eligible for transportation will be picked up and dropped off from the open school nearest their residence. Special accommodations will be made for special needs students whose IEP requires it. Columbus City Schools will not provide transportation for students attending a school outside of their assigned community due to open enrollment or school lottery. In such cases, transportation will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian. Students should be at their assigned bus stop location five minutes prior to the assigned pick up time. Every effort is made to arrive at each stop at the assigned pick up time. Please note: during the first few weeks of school, busses may run late and schedules are subject to change due to late enrollments and route changes. Students can only be dropped off at their assigned stop location; parents wanting their student dropped off at another location must contact their school administrator. VACCINATIONS Health, Family & Community Services: (64) 365-5824 To ensure that all schools provide safe and healthy learning environments, the Ohio Department of Health requires that all students need to be immunized upon enrollment. Contact your child s healthcare provider to make sure vaccinations are up-to-date for school entry. If you need assistance with immunizations, please contact the school nurse, or the Columbus Health Immunization Clinic, at (64) 645-7945. For your convenience, a full schedule of immunization requirements can be found under the Parents & Students (Health Services) feature on our website: www.ccsoh.us. Please note that students entering 7th grade are required to get the Tdap vaccine which protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough).
FOOD & NUTRITION STARTING THIS YEAR FOOD SERVICES: (64) 365-567 BREAKFAST & LUNCH will be FREE for ALL CCS STUDENTS! As part of Federal Lunch Program, Columbus City Schools has qualified to provide free meals for every student enrolled in the District. Yes, free breakfast and lunch for every student in CCS and best of all, parents no longer have to complete any applications or provide any documentation of income. The only money that students may need will be to pay for optional A la cart items and snack foods. The meals being served are of the same high-quality that we have had in the past, and the meals will continue to meet all nutritional guidelines established under the Federal Lunch Program. Good tasting, nutritional meals are an important part of every student s success, whether in the classroom or on the athletic field.
