Getting Started Before starting, we assume that your ADSL line has already been installed at your premises by your landline provider and that it is active. The installation should have also included the correct wall plug, which is different from your traditional basic landline wall plug. An ADSL enabled wall plug, also known as a Y splitter, will allow you to insert two telephone cords, one for your telephone landline, and one for an ADSL line. (It doesn t matter which one you choose for each, the both the same.) The Billion 7401 VGP is a specialised router, in that it s VoIP capable. The router is firstly your gateway to the internet using FNB Connect ADSL data. This guide will help you connect to the FNB Network, to enjoy surfing, emailing, and downloading at your leisure. The router s VoIP capability allows you to use it for your telephone needs with FNB Connects Talk products. Users that prefer to make use of VoIP on a real handset usually have to purchase what s known as a VoIP (Or IP or SIP or Ethernet or Network) handset. This VoIP enabled router allows you the same freedom of using your FNB Connect VoIP on a real handset, but that handset is your usual Analogue phone that you receive/purchase for your landline, saving you from having to purchase extra complicated handsets to take advantage of FNB Connect Talk. When installing your VoIP enabled ADSL router the diagram below of the Billion 7401 VGP can be used as a reference guide as it shows you how the different components all fit together. It may look confusing, but it really isn t. P a g e 3

Connecting your ADSL router to your phone line In order to setup your ADSL router, you need to go through the following steps: The first step when setting up your new Billion 7401 is to ensure it is plugged in correctly. 1. Connect this router to your computer/laptop/network switch using the Ethernet cable supplied. Plug the one end of the Ethernet cable into one of the 4 available LAN ports on the back of the router, and the other into the LAN port on your computer (or Network switch) 2. Connect to the ADSL/telephone (ADSL) network, by using the telephone cord (RJ 11), plug one end into the ADSL port on the router and the other end into the Wall socket installed by the landline provider when your ADSL was installed. 3. Power on the device. 4. Make sure the PWR and SYS and LAN LEDs are lit (Not Blinking). 5. If you planning to use your FNB Connect VoIP number on a standard analogue phone through this router, then connect one end of an RJ11 cord (normal telephone cord) to the VoIP port marked and the other into the analogue handset. P a g e 4

Configuring your wired router 1. On the computer /laptop that you connected to above, open your web browser and type http://192.168.1.254 in the browser s address box. This number is the default IP address for this router. Press Enter. 2. A username and password window will appear. The default username is admin & the password is admin and admin. Press OK to proceed. Modem Username: admin Modem Password: admin 3. You will get to the main menu screen. 4. At the main menu screen, please click on Quick Start from the menu. 5. You will be presented with the Quick Start connection screen. P a g e 5

6. Set Encapsulation to PPPoA. 7. Set VPI to 8. 8. Set VCI to 35. 9. NAT should be set to Enable by Default. 10. IP Address Settings are automatically obtained b. IP Address, SubNetmask & Default Gateway are to be set to 0.0.0.0 11. Check the Enable box to get the DNS obtained automatically. 12. Enter your FNB Connect Surf Username in the Username field. E.g. SomePerson@fnbconnect.co.za 13. Enter your FNB Connect Surf Password in the Password field. E.g. XYZkB4 14. Click Apply. 15. This should return you to the start screen while your modem is attempting to connect. This screen will refresh automatically. 16. N.B. Click on the Save Config button at the bottom of the screen. 17. Setup is now complete, and you should be able to surf the internet already. P a g e 6

Configuring your wireless (Wi-Fi) settings 1. On the left-hand menu, select CONFIGURATION, Then LAN, and finally WIRELESS. 2. Set the WLAN Service to 'Enable'. 3. Set the Wireless Mode to '802.11 b+g' 4. Set your preferred wireless network name by entering a name of your choice into 'ESSID'. Typical selections chosen are Our Home Network or SAM S Coffee Shop, or similar. This is the broadcast name of your Wi-Fi network. 5. Disable 'Hide ESSID'. 6. Select the Channel ID you prefer. A higher channel generally provides a stronger signal if you are experiencing problems with reception. 7. Click APPLY. 8. On the left-hand menu, select WIRELESS SECURITY. 9. Set the 'Security Mode' to WPA PRE-SHARED KEY. P a g e 7

10. Use TKIP as the WPA Algorithm Method. 11. Enter a Passphrase/Password of YOUR choice into the text box labled 'Passphrase'. Must be between 8-63 Alphanumeric Characters). This will be the password that any user must enter into their device to access your Wi-Fi network 12. Leave the 'Group Key Renewal' set to 3600 seconds. 13. Click 'APPLY' to confirm and save the settings into the modem. P a g e 8

How do I know if I m connected? To see that a connection between the computer and the router has been made there are three checks that you can perform. N.B. This check is best performed while you still connected to the wired network Option 1: Open a new browser and browse to a few different websites i.e. www.google.com or www.fnb.co.za If you are not able to browse any site, or if you receive any connection error load, then you need to try option 2. Option 2: This option allows you to check the internet connection by sending a ping. A ping shows weather your computer can communicate with another computer over a network. If the connection exists you should receive four replies stating: Packets: Sent=4, Received=4, Lost=0,<0% lost> To send a ping you need to: Select the start menu button Then click Run P a g e 9

Then type in CMD in the open field Then in the command window, type ping www.google.co.za ( Refer to example below) Once you have received four successful replies, you know you are connected successfully. If you receive a timeout message for example you need to contact FNB Connect support. *If you are unable to establish a connection contact FNB Connect Support: on 087 575 0001 P a g e 10

Setting up VoIP? Used to setup your router to connect an analogue handset with which to make and receive VoIP calls. Ensure that you have connected your analogue handset into the VoIP port marked on the router with a telephone cord before beginning. Your router must also be connected in a wired manner to a laptop or pc, that has a web browser installed, before proceeding. Log into the web configuration page of the router if you not already there. URL: 192.168.1.254 Default Username: admin Default Password: admin Click on Configuration -> VoIP Open up General Settings Change the following settings on the page: Registrar Address: voice.fnbconnect.co.za Click on Apply P a g e 11

Now go to the Wizard Page Enter the following details: SIP Service Provider: Voice.fnbconnect.co.za Phone Number: FNB Connect VoIP number (e.g. 087 XXX XXXX) Authentication Password: FNB Connect VoIP Password (e.g. XYZ4bW) Click on Apply Click on Save Configuration to Flash (on the left hand side menu) Select to save current configuration and reboot P a g e 12
