Page 3 of 12 Bulletin: AN2900-05-001 1.0 OUTLINE This application note will provide details concerning the configuration, support of and how the Internal MoH (Music On Hold) functions. 2.0 OVERVIEW OF INTERNAL MOH Internal MoH is a function which allows a Dterm IP user to download and store a music file of their individual preference on the IP terminal. This music file will playback when the IP terminal is placed on hold. Terminal #1 Terminal #2 Internal Music on Hold Stored in terminal #1 Explanation: Call is connected in a peer to peer mode between Terminal #1 and Terminal #2 Terminal #1 Terminal #2 Internal music is played in Headset of terminal #1 Terminal #2 places the call on Hold Explanation: Sometime later Terminal #2 places Terminal #1 on hold
Page 4 of 12 Bulletin: AN2900-05-001 Service Conditions: - Music file is only played back to the terminal on which the file is stored. - Music file will only function when the call is configured as a peer to peer call. - Music file will only follow system programming when the call crosses different transmission paths. (Example: IP to TDM to IP) - Voice Server program must enable MoH file play back. 3.0 COMPATIBILITY The Internal MoH functionality is compatible on the following NEC IP terminals and adapters. Terminal Type Firmware Release IPW-2U 1.53 or greater IP-R 2.10 or greater ITR-2 1.20 or greater ITR-3 1.20 or greater ITR-LC-1 1.05 or greater ITR-320C-1 2.00 or greater ITR-320G-1 2.00 or greater ITR-240G-1 1.06 or greater 4.0 MUSIC ON HOLD The MoH file which is stored within the Dterm IP must be of an.mdf (wave file) compliant format. Several different wave file conversion tools exist on the market today (example Cool Edit ) which allos for conversion of different formats. It is recommended that you either purchase or obtain one of the shareware packages in order to convert your chosen wave file. The music file must be named "music.mdt". When choosing to convert a music file into the format more suitable for the IP terminal, make sure the following properties are saved for the converted file which will be downloaded to the IP terminal: Sample Rate: 8kbytes/sec Channel: Mono Resolution 8 bit Audio format: mu-law Format header: RIFF.wavefmt Save as: music.mdt
Page 5 of 12 Bulletin: AN2900-05-001 4.1 CONFIGURING THE IP TERMINAL FOR MOH FILE DOWNLOAD Before starting the downloading of Music On Hold, an IP Address of the TFTP (FTP) Server must be entered from the DtermIP/IP Enabled Dterm. The following are the step by step procedures for configuring the IP terminal for MoH file download. Step 1. Setup the TFTP/FTP server <TFTP> Designate the directory, where the program file is stored, as the directory for downloading. Note: Do not change the file name or extension of the download file. <FTP> Place the MoH file to be downloaded into the specified directory (In case of Windows NT, the default setting is C:\InetPub ftproot) of the FTP server. Note: Do not change the file name or extension of the download file as what is detailed in section 3.0. Step 2: Enter the necessary data for operation of the DtermIP/IP enabled Dterm such as DRS/MGC address, IP address of the terminal and Subnet Mask in advance. Step 3: Open the User Menu by pressing Hold + "CONF + * + # on the terminal. Two items are displayed on the IP Enabled Dterm. User Menu Step 4: Open the Administrator Menu by Pressing Hold + # + 0 on the User menu. The following Administrator Menu is displayed. Step 5: Select 2 Download Address by pressing 2 on the Administrator Menu
Page 6 of 12 Bulletin: AN2900-05-001 Step 6: Enter the IP address of the TFTP (FTP) server, and press OK key. Step 7: Return to the User Menu by pressing Exit key. Step 8: Press Save key to save the assigned data Step 9: Procedure is complete 4.2 DOWNLOADING MUSIC ON HOLD Step 1: Open the User Menu by pressing Hold + CONF + * + # while the terminal is in normal operation, indicating an error message or DHCP Connecting /DRS (1 st ) Connecting. on the display. Two items are displayed on the terminal. Note: When using the Backup MGC, DRS(2 nd ) Connecting.. DRS(3 rd ) Connecting.. or DRS(4 th ) Connecting.. will be displayed instead of DRS(1 st ) Connecting..
Page 7 of 12 Bulletin: AN2900-05-001 Step 2: Open the Administrator Menu by pressing Hold + # + 0 on the User Menu. The following Administrator Menu is displayed. Step 3: Select 5. Download by pressing 5 on the menu. Download Menu is displayed. Step 4: Select 5. Music by pressing 5 on the Download Menu. The display will change as follows.
Page 8 of 12 Bulletin: AN2900-05-001 Step 5: Press TFTP key (the left-most soft key) for TFTP, or FTP key (the right-most soft key) for FTP. While download is in progress, Downloading is displayed. Caution: Do Not turn OFF the power of the Dterm IP/IP Enabled Dterm while Downloading is displayed. If power is turned OFF, there is a possibility that the terminal cannot start up normally. Note: In this example, press FTP key for FTP. Step 6: After a while, the display will change as follows indicating the download is completed Downloading Complete is displayed when the download is complete. Step 7: Press exit key to reset the terminal. The terminal starts up again with the new Music on Hold. Step 8: Procedure is completed.
Page 9 of 12 Bulletin: AN2900-05-001 Note: If an error message is displayed, the downloading has failed. Program download failure, wav format error or oversized file, etc. will cause the download failure.
Page 10 of 12 Bulletin: AN2900-05-001 4.3 SETTING MUSIC ON HOLD. The following procedure explains how to set Music On Hold to be heard by Dterm user. Step 1: Open the user menu by pressing Hold + CONF + * + # while the terminal is in normal operation, indicating an error message or DHCP connecting /DRS (1 st ) Connecting on the display. Two items are displayed on the terminal. Note: When using Backup MGC, DRS(2 nd ) Connecting DRS(3 rd ) Connecting or DRS(4 th ) Connecting will be displayed instead of DRS(1 st ) Connecting. Step 2: Open the Administrator Menu by pressing Hold + # + 0 on the User Menu. The following Administrator Menu is displayed.
Page 11 of 12 Bulletin: AN2900-05-001 Step 3: Select 0. Next page (P1>>P2) by pressing 0 on the menu. The following Administrator Menu (Page 2) is displayed. Select 2. Music Select by pressing 2 on the menu. Step 4: The current setting for the Music on Hold is flashing. To change the current setting for the Music on Hold, press the applicable number and then press OK Key. If you do not need to change, press Cancel key. When using the download Music On Hold When using the default Music On Hold Download Data Default Data After the Music On Hold selection has been made, return to the Administrator Menu by selecting 0. Next Page (P2>>P1). Step 5: When the above procedure is all completed, the administrator Menu is displayed again. Return to the User Menu by pressing Exit key.
