1 6AOSCG A August 2011 Configuration Guide Configuring Music on Hold on the NetVanta 7000 Series This configuration guide describes the Music on Hold (MoH) feature available on the NetVanta 7000 Series. This guide provides a basic overview of the Music on Hold feature, as well as procedures for configuring the feature in both the ADTRAN Operating System (AOS) Web-based graphical user interface (GUI) and the command line interface (CLI). 2 Music on Hold Overview Music on Hold is a feature that allows the user to play hold music internally from a NetVanta 7000 Series unit rather than using an external music player. This feature replaces the CD player or other hardware that would normally be required to generate hold music. The Music on Hold feature can be used for hold music, as well as for call queues and FindMe-FollowMe. There are two methods for configuring the NetVanta 7000 Series unit: the GUI or the CLI. Both methods are covered in this guide. Not all features can be enabled using both methods. This limitation will be noted where applicable. Both configuration methods require certain steps in order to configure the Music on Hold feature: Set the Music on Hold mode to internal. Create a new music player (the default system player can be used as well). Add one or more WAV files to the music player. Set the new music player as the default player. Hardware and Software Requirements and Limitations AOS firmware version A4.01 or later is required on your NetVanta 7000 Series product to support the internal Music on Hold feature. Configuring Music on Hold The following ADTRAN document is a prerequisite to configuring Music on Hold on your system and is available online at NetVanta 7000 Series Quick Start Guide, ADTRAN Knowledge Base article 2511 Music files must be encoded in the G.729 and pulse code modulation mu-law (PCMU) formats. To encode the files, navigate to the software downloads section of and download the NetVanta Audio Converter. Follow the directions included in the README file to convert your audio files. Configuring Music on Hold Using the GUI To connect to the NetVanta 7000 Series GUI and configure the Music on Hold feature, follow these steps: 1. Open a new page in your Internet browser. 2. Enter your unit s IP address in the browser s address field in the following form: address>/admin. For example: 2 Copyright 2011 ADTRAN, Inc. 6AOSCG A

5 5. Select the Internal mode on the top of the Music on Hold menu. Selecting Internal activates the software Music on Hold feature. Select External mode when using a CD player or other device connected to the unit s Music on Hold (MOH) port. Figure 3. Selecting the Internal Music on Hold Mode 6. Enter the name of the new player into the Player List field and select Add. This step is optional. The default system player can be selected rather than creating a new player. Figure 4. 6 7. Select Show All Files to show all music files currently on the unit. Add music files to the new player by dragging and dropping music files into the new players name in the left hand column. If no music files are added, the player will still function but no sound will be heard. Figure 5. Adding Music to the New Player 8. Set the new player as the default player using the drop-down menu. Figure 6. Setting the New Default Player 9. If no music files are currently located on the unit, or if you wish to add new music files, select Upload New Music Files. 7 and navigate to the location of the music file on your computer, then select Open. Music files must be encoded and uploaded in both formats before they will be added to the music player s file list. Figure 7. Selecting File Encoding Format Figure 8. 8 Music files must be encoded in the G.729 and PCMU formats. To encode the files, navigate to the software downloads section of and download the NetVanta Audio Converter. Follow the directions included in the README file to convert your audio files. 10. Once the music file has been uploaded to the unit, it can be added to the player as outlined in Step 7 of this guide. If multiple music files are used in the player, their order can be changed by dragging and dropping them in the player s music list. 11. Select Apply at the bottom of the Music on Hold menu to save changes to the player. Figure 9. Saving the New Player Configuring Music on Hold Using the CLI To access the CLI and configure the internal Music on Hold feature, follow these steps: 1. Boot up the unit. 2. Telnet to the unit (telnet <ip address>). For example: telnet If during the unit s setup process you have changed the default IP address ( ), use the configured IP address. 3. Enter your user name and password at the prompt. The AOS default user name is admin and the default password is password. If your product no longer has the default user name and password, contact your system administrator for the appropriate user name and password. 8 Copyright 2011 ADTRAN, Inc. 6AOSCG A

9 4. Enter the Enable mode by entering enable at the prompt as follows: >enable 5. Enter your Enable mode password at the prompt. 6. Enter the Global Configuration mode using the configure terminal command: #configure terminal 7. Set the unit to use the internal Music on Hold feature using the voice music-on-hold mode internal command: (config)#voice music-on-hold mode internal 8. Set the preferred file encoding using the voice music-on-hold preferred-codec command. Setting the CODEC to g729 saves bandwidth and CPU usage. Setting the CODEC to g711ulaw, the PCMU CODEC, provides improved sound quality. The voice music-on-hold preferred-codec command is not available using the GUI. (config)#voice music-on-hold preferred-codec g711ulaw 9. Configure a new Music on Hold player using the voice music-on-hold player command, where player1 is the name of the new player: (config)#voice music-on-hold player player1 10. Add music files to the new player using the file command, where 1 is the position of the file in the playlist and holdmusic1.wav is the new music file. (config-player1)#file 1 holdmusic1.wav To add music files to the player, make sure that the files are located in both the music/g729 and music/pcmu directories on the unit s CompactFlash card. 11.
