Massey University Wireless Network Client Configuration Mac OS X 10.6 10.9 MAC wireless network Requirements Information Technology Services You must have an active Massey username and password (i.e. you should already be able to log onto the wired Massey network with your username and password), for Staff with your Massey username and password and Students with your student ID number and PIN. You must be within an area of wireless coverage - typically this will be less than 100m from an access point. Refer to the coverage maps at http://wireless.massey.ac.nz/coverage.htm 1. Click on the Wi-Fi icon (previously called Airport) in the Menu Bar. 1 2. Select Open Network Preferences 2 3. Click on Wi-Fi (or Airport). 3 Page 1 of 13
4. Select the Wireless Network to connect, there are three wireless networks are provided: MUStaff - Staff using Massey-managed equipment (those with an ITXXXXXX number). MUStaffPrivateEquipment - Staff using private or non-massey equipment. MUStudents - Student users on any wireless equipment. 4 A box will open asking for a username and password to connect to Wireless Network 5. Enter your Massey username and password (Student ID and PIN) and click OK. 5 Page 2 of 13
Your computer should then prompt you to add a new server certificate. 6. Click on Show Certificate for more information. Information Technology Services 6 7 8 9 7. Tick Always Trust tur-aaa1.massey.ac.nz. 8. Click on the drop down menu under Trust. 9. Check that Always Trust is set on all settings and click Continue. Page 3 of 13
10. The Trust Certificate prompt will open depending on your computer s security settings. In order to configure this connection on your computer you will need to authorise the certificate by entering your Computer username and password and click OK. 10 Note: You may need to repeat steps 6 to 10 several times before your computer successfully connects to the network. Or If a Trust Certificate does not appear you can skip to step 11. 11. Ensure Wi-Fi (previously named Airport) is On and connected. 12. Check that the correct wireless network is selected. 13. Proxy Configuration 14. In the Network Window Select Advanced. 14 15. Select the Proxies tab. 15 16 7 17 18 16. Tick box for Automatic Proxy Configuration. 17. Enter http://get-proxy.massey.ac.nz in the Proxy Configuration File URL field 18. Select OK Page 5 of 13
19. Click Apply to the Network Window. 19 20. Open Safari and the Proxy Authentication Box should appear with name and password fields. 20 21 1 (Optional) 21. (Optional) Tick the Remember this Network checkbox. 22. Enter your Massey username and password, and then click Log In. Note: Instructions on setting up the Mozilla Firefox browser are on page 9. Safari should now be able to connect to the Internet, indicating you are successfully connected to the Massey Wireless network. Page 6 of 13
Troubleshooting Alternate Network Configuration If the Proxy Authentication box (step 19 above) does not appear when opening Safari. There are known issues that some Mac OS cannot use the http://get-proxy.massey.ac.nz configuration if your system fits into this case and the Proxy Authentication box does not appear when opening Safari you will need to configure the Proxies manually. Continue with the following steps to configure the Proxy manually. 1. Click on the Location drop-down menu and select Edit Locations... 1 3 2 2. Select the + icon 3. Create a new Location called Massey and click on Done 4. Click on Apply 4 5. Select Advanced... 5 6. Select the Proxies tab 6 Page 7 of 13
7. Tick box for Web Proxy (HTTP). 8. Enter the appropriate proxy for your location in Web Proxy Server: box. Enter 8080 for the Port 10.Click OK and then Apply 10 10 Note: By setting up the wireless connection in this way the Internet will not work when you connect to a network without a proxy server e.g. at your home. To connect to the Internet when you get home (or on a network without a proxy server) change the location setting back to Automatic (in Step 1 above). If this is the case each time you wish to use the Massey wireless network you will need to change the location setting back to Massey. Safari should now be able to access the Internet. Page 8 of 13
Firefox If you are unable to browse the internet using Firefox follow these steps. 1. Select Firefox Preferences... 1 2. Select Advanced 3. Select the Network tab 4. Select Settings 2 3 4 5. Select Auto-detect proxy settings for this network 6. Click on OK 5 6 Page 9 of 13
Keychain Access If a prompt similar to the one below continues to pop up while connected to a Massey University wireless network you can follow these steps to change your computers access settings for the Massey University server certificates and network. 1. Click on Spotlight (the Mac quick search field) 2. Type in Keychain, and open the utility Keychain Access. 1 2 Password profiles 3. Open The MUStudents password profile. 3 Page 10 of 13
4. Click on Access Control. 5. Check Allow all applications to access this item. 6. Click on Save Changes. 4 5 6 7. Keychain Access will prompt you to authorise the changes to your access permissions. Enter your Computers login password and click Allow. 7 8. Certificate profiles 9. Open the DigiCert High Assurance EV Root CA certificate profile. 9 10. Click the Trust dropdown icon. 10 11. Change the When using this certificate: setting to Always Trust. 11 Page 12 of 13
