1 GO-Global Cloud 4.1 QUICK START SETTING UP A LINUX CLOUD SERVER AND HOST This guide provides instructions for setting up a cloud server and configuring a host so it can be accessed from the cloud server. For alternative configurations, and for more information, see the Cloud Server Administrator Guide. INSTALL THE CLOUD SERVER ON LINUX The cloud server is supported on Red Hat and SUSE Linux. The cloud server setup installs the following software: The cloud server application Apache Tomcat Java Runtime Environment (JRE) To install the cloud server software on Linux, users must be root. GraphOn provides native packages of the cloud server for installation onto RHEL 5 and SLES 11 x For example: gg-cloud-server-4.1.x-xxxx-linux-x86_64.rpm The cloud server package is dependent upon the postgresql-server package. If this package is not already installed on your system, install the cloud server package using a meta-installer to automatically install the postgresql-server package. To install the Cloud Server on Linux 1. Import GraphOn's public key into your RPM database: rpm --import ftp://ftp.graphon.com/rpm-gpg-key-graphon 2. Install the package as root: On Red Hat systems, type yum install gg-cloud-server-4.1.x-xxxx-linux-x86_64.rpm On SUSE systems, type zypper install gg-cloud-server-4.1.x-xxxx-linux-x86_64.rpm To install the Cloud Server with Software Installer 1. Click the link to the GO-Global Package and choose to open it with Software Installer. 2. Click Apply. 3. On KDE, there is no default associated application for RPMs.

2 To install the Cloud Server on KDE 1. After clicking the GO-Global Package link, type system-install-packages in the Open with dialog. 2. Enable Remember application association for this type of file. 3. Click Apply. INSTALL THE HOST The host may be installed on the same computer as the cloud server, or on a separate computer. The host setup program must be run by root. To install the Linux Host 1. Import GraphOn's public key into your RPM database: rpm --import ftp://ftp.graphon.com/rpm-gpg-key-graphon 2. Click the link to download the host package. 3. Choose to open the RPM with Software Installer (default). 4. If prompted, type your root password. 5. Click Apply in the Installing Packages dialog. 6. Click OK in the Software Installed successfully dialog. The host software can also be installed using a terminal. 1. Import GraphOn's public key into your RPM database: rpm --import ftp://ftp.graphon.com/rpm-gpg-key-graphon 2. Type rpm -Uvh install gg-host-4.1.x-xxxxx.rpm Note: When a user signs in to a host from a cloud server, the host checks out both a host license and a cloud server license. Demo license files include both of these licenses. To configure the host license 1. Copy your license to /usr/local/graphon/etc/ 2. Restart the licensing service: service gg-licensing restart The license server logs messages to /usr/local/graphon/log/license.log. 2

3 CONNECT THE HOST TO THE CLOUD SERVER To access a host from GO-Global Cloud, the host must be connected to a cloud server. To register the Linux Host 1. Go to Applications System Tools Cloud Connector. (Applications and System Tools may vary depending on the desktop environment and distribution.) 2. If prompted, type your root password. 3. Type the hostname and port of the cloud server and click OK. 4. Type the username of the cloud server administrator (admin) and click OK. 5. Type the password (admin) and click OK. 6. Type the host address of the host as it should be registered with the cloud server and click OK. 7. Type the display name of the host (e.g., Bob s Work Laptop) and click OK. To register the Linux Host using a terminal 1. Type /usr/local/graphon/bin/cloud-connector with the following options: Short Option Long Option Function -h --help Displays help message and exits -r --cloudserver URL of the cloud server to register with -u --username The user name to authenticate to the cloud server with -p --password The password to authenticate to the cloud server with -n --host The host address of the host to register with the cloud server -d --display The display name of the host to register with the cloud server -q --quiet Do not display the user interface, fail if arguments are not available For example, /usr/local/graphon/bin/cloud-connector -q -r cloudhost.clouddomain.com:8080 -u admin -p admin -n gghost.domain.com -d Main Office 3

4 PUBLISH APPLICATIONS Applications can be published to users and groups. To publish applications to specific users and groups 1. In the Web browser's address field, type the address of the cloud server. (For example, 2. In the Sign in dialog, type the user name and password of the cloud server administrator. 3. Click Sign in. Sign in to the host as root. 4. Click the Toggle navigation pane button on the toolbar. 5. Select Workspaces in the tree view. 6. Select share. 7. If there is no shortcut to the application you want to publish, create one: a. Click the Add (+) button on the toolbar. b. In the Create New Shortcut dialog, type a name for the shortcut. c. Click the Browse button to browse for the desired file or program. d. Click Select. e. Click Create. 8. Drag an application shortcut from the main window and drop it on the Home folder in the Navigation Pane. 9. Click the Edit Properties button on the toolbar. 10. Click the Security tab. 11. In the Search Users field, type the name of a user or group. 12. Click Search. 13. Select a user or group from the list on the left (e.g., Guest). 14. Click Add or drag the user or group from the list on the left to the list on the right. 15. Click Save. When the user (or member of the specified group) signs in to the cloud server, a link to the published application will be displayed in the main window. 4

5 GRANT ACCESS TO THE HOST If users need to access other resources on the host besides published applications, or if they need to be able to manage their own settings, you can grant them the right to sign in to the host. If, however, users only need to access applications that are published from the host, you can skip this step. To grant specific users and groups the right to sign in to the host 1. In the Web browser's address field, type the address of the cloud server. (For example, 2. In the Sign in dialog, type the user name and password of the cloud server administrator. Click Sign in. 3. Double-click the host. 4. Sign in to the host as root. 5. Click the Toggle navigation pane button on the toolbar. 6. Select the host in the tree view. 7. Click the Edit Properties button on the toolbar. 8. Click the Security tab. 9. In the Search Users field, type the name of the group, e.g., Guest. 10. Click Search. 11. Select a user or group from the list on the left. 12. Click Add or drag the user or group from the list on the left to the list on the right. 13. Click Save. When the user (or member of the specified group) connects to the cloud server, the host will be displayed in the main window. GRANT ACCESS TO THE ROOT WORKSPACE In addition to controlling which users are allowed to access a host, the cloud server controls which workspaces a user is allowed to access. By default, GO-Global Cloud automatically grants the first user to sign in to a workspace the right to access the workspace. Thereafter, if any other user tries to sign in to the workspace, access will be denied unless a host administrator has explicitly granted the user access to the workspace. For example, when you sign in to the cloud server as admin, then sign in to the host as root, GO-Global will automatically grant the admin cloud server user access to the host's root workspace. Thereafter, however, if other cloud server users (e.g., Guest) try to sign in to the host as root, the cloud server will deny the user access to the workspace. 5

6 To grant user access to a workspace 1. Sign in to the cloud server as admin. 2. Sign in to the host as root. 3. Click the Toggle navigation pane button on the toolbar. 4. Select Workspaces in the tree view. 5. Select the workspace you want to edit. 6. Click the Edit Properties button on the toolbar. 7. Click the Security tab. 8. In the Search Users field, type Guest. 9. Click Search. 10. Select the Guest user from the list on the left. 11. Click Add. 12. Click Save. RUN GO-GLOBAL CLOUD User can access GO-Global Cloud from Linux computers via supported browsers that have Adobe Flash installed. To run GO-Global Cloud 1. If it is not already installed, install the Adobe Flash Player. 2. In the Web browser's address field, type the address of the cloud server. (For example, 3. Click the Install GO-Global Add-on link located on the right side of GO-Global Cloud s title bar and restart the browser. 4. Double-click an application icon. 5. If the cloud server is not configured to use single sign-on, you may be prompted to sign in again. If so, type the user name and password of a host account and click Sign in. After signing in to the host, the application will start. 6
