Supported operating systems: Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7, or 10.8 Overview This tool provides a function to update the firmware of the Product to the latest version. This tool may cause all the data and initial settings stored in the Product to be lost. Back up your data on multiple types of storage media before using this tool. After using the tool to update the firmware of the Product, the firmware is the following version. FlashAir firmware version: F24A6W3AW1.00.04 What you need to start A FlashAir memory card (the Product) Computer running Apple Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7, or 10.8 An SD memory card reader/writer that supports SDHC memory cards (If your computer has an SD memory card slot, confirm that it supports SDHC memory cards) FlashAir firmware update tool 2
Operating precautions This tool formats the Product after it updates the firmware, so a smartphone or some other device must be used to do the Product s initial settings to enable wireless communication. Data cannot be written to the Product while you are doing the initial settings. After you do the initial settings, turn off the digital camera, take out the Product, and insert the Product again. Initial settings are required every time the Product is formatted by a digital camera or some other device. Data cannot be written to the Product while you are doing the initial settings. Installation of FlashAir firmware update tool to a computer Download the FlashAir firmware update tool (FAFWUpdateTool_v10004.zip) from the download site at http://www.toshiba.co.jp/p media/wwsite/flashair.htm, and save it in any folder you like on your computer. That s all you need to do for the installation. Double clicking FAFWUpdateTool_v10004.zip launches the installer. After the installation is complete, a FAFWUpdateTool_v10004.app icon appears on the desktop. 3
How to update the firmware Insert the Product into an SDHC compliant SD card slot of your computer, or insert the Product into an SDHC memory card reader/writer that is connected to your computer on which Mac OS X v10.6, v10.7, or v10.8 is running. Select [New Finder Window] from [Finder] on the menu bar and check the device in which the product is inserted. Access the Product from this Finder and confirm the device is connected correctly. Note: Updating the Product s firmware formats the product and deletes all recorded data. Before doing the following operations, back up your data to a computer or storage media that supports SDHC cards. 4
To start the tool, double click FAFWUpdateTool_v10004 The device in which the Product is mounted is displayed in the DEVICES pull down menu. In the following example, the Product is mounted in /Volumes/NO NAME. Select the device on which the Product is mounted. Click the Update button. 5
The FlashAir firmware update tool checks the current version before the update. If the version of the Product cannot be confirmed, the following dialog is displayed. [How to remove the Product] Before you remove the Product, click the Eject button [ ] on the Product on the DEVICE item list in the Finder. When the Product no longer appears on the DEVICE item list, you can remove the Product. Note: Please close the application that is accessing the Product before removing it. It is impossible to remove the Product while it is being accessed. Insert the Product into the SD card slot again after five (5) seconds, and click OK. 6
When the following dialog is displayed, click the OK button. The software starts to copy the firmware to the Product. While the following dialog is displayed, do not remove the Product and do not turn off the device, doing so causes the update to fail and prevents the Product from starting. 7
The following dialog is displayed. [How to remove the Product] Before you remove the product, click the Eject button [ ] on the Product on the DEVICE item list in the Finder. When the Product no longer appears on the DEVICE item list, you can remove the Product. Note: Please close the application that is accessing the Product before removing it. It is impossible to remove the Product while it is being accessed. When the following dialog is displayed, remove the Product from the SD card slot. Then insert the Product into the SD slot again after five (5) seconds, and click OK. 8
The Progress bar is displayed when the software update starts. After the following dialog is displayed, remove the Product from the SD card slot. Then insert the Product in the SD card slot again after five (5) seconds, and click OK. When the update starts, a progress bar is displayed and the following dialog is displayed when the update is finished. After the update is finished, do the initial settings according to the supplementary manual attached to the Product. Refer to How to use "FlashAir Setup Software" at http://www.toshiba.co.jp/p media/wwsite/flashair.htm. This completes the product s firmware update. 9
