Install Windows 7 Professional Step 1 Registering and Installing VMWare Fusion on a Macintosh An account with VMWare Fusion has been created for you. You should have received an from George Mason University Computing Resources with the subject VMWare download information from Volgenau School of Engineering. This contains the URL for VMWare Fusion registration. If you did not receive or cannot locate the , use the link below. Click on the latest version of VMware Fusion to install it on your Mac. Click Add to Cart

2 Click Check Out Click I Accept Fill in the contact information with your Mason and click Proceed with Order You ll see the screen below confirming your order. Click Start Download

3 Click Download Once the download has completed, click on your download menu and select VMware Fusion You ll see the VMware Fusion screen. Double click to install it. Click Open and the installation will begin. Click Agree to the licensing agreement

4 You should have received an with your license key. Copy that license key Paste the license key into the license key text box then click Continue Click Done to complete the registration Click on the VMware icon on the dock to open the application.

5 Step 2 Installing Windows 7 Professional on a Mac using Dreamspark. Going to Dreamspark to download Windows 7 You should have received an from George Mason University Volgenau School of Engineering with a subject Microsoft DreamSpark (MSNAA) downloads thorugh the Volgenau School. This contains the URL for access to downloading Windows 7 onto your Mac once you have installed VMware Fusion. Click on this link to begin the process. Click Register You will see the following message asking you to follow instructions in an message to complete the registration of your Dreamspark account. This will entail clicking on a link in that . The link in the will open a registration screen in Dreamspark. Complete the information on this screen and click Register

6 Click on Operating Systems and select Windows 7 Click on Add to Cart Click OK to verify that you want to add this to your cart. Click Check Out

7 Click I Accept You will see a screen that applies to prior installations of Windows. If you have installed a version Windows earlier than Windows 7 refer to this chart for assistance. If not, click Continue. Fill in the Contact Information and click Proceed with Order Click Start Download to begin downloading Windows 7

8 Click on Step 1 in the screen that appears. This will download a Secure Download Manager Access the downloaded file by clicking on the Downloads icon on the dock and double clicking on the SDM file that appears. Click Continue Select the language you want to use and click Continue Click Agree Click Install Go back to the Get Your Software b 4 Easy Steps page and click on #3

9 Go to downloads on the dock and double click on the file that just downloaded. Click Open Click Start Download. The download will take some time to complete. When the download has finished, click Launch

10 Click on the VMware icon in the dock Add to create a new virtual machine on which you will install Windows 7. Click Add then New Click on Install from disc or image Click on Use another disc or disc image Click on Downloads Click on the Windows 7 folder Double click on the file in that folder Select the file in the window and click continue

11 Create an account on the virtual machine you are creating. To get the Windows Product Key, login into Dreamspark using the URL provided in the confirmation you received Choose Windows 7 Professional Select More Isolated and click Continue Click Finish Click Save.

12 Windows will install on your Mac The operating system will create your account in the Windows 7 operating system and install Windows 7. The Windows virtual machine will reboot twice to complete the installation. It will prepare your desktop as part of this process. The machine will install VMware Tools and reboot again. You will see a recommendation to run anti-virus software. It is recommended that you install the antivirus software if you will use the Windows machine to browse the web or check . If you will only use the Windows machine to complete homework assignments it may not be necessary. You now have an operational Windows 7 machine and can download the necessary software for your class.

13 To access the Windows virtual machine after installation Run VMware by clicking on Finder Click on Applications Double click WMware Windows should automatically open. Click the play icon to open Windows. If it doesn t, click Window then Virtual Machine Library Click Resume to start Windows
