2 nd International Interdisciplinary AO Course on Skull Base Surgery Approaches to the Lateral Skull Base 2009 Program September 23 th 25 th 2009, Vienna, Austria

2

Foreword Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to invite you to the 2 nd International Interdisciplinary AO Course on Skull Base Surgery in Vienna. The lateral skull base is an extremely complex region requiring a deep knowledge of anatomy. The hallmark of contemporary skull base surgery is a team approach, whereby experts of various specialities interact in order to deliver the highest level of care to patients. Progress in radiographic imaging, advances in modern anesthesia and improvements in technical equipment combined with the advent of microvascular free tissue transfer have all been important features in the evolution of skull base surgery. In this course we will bring together outstanding international faculty who will be supported by a selected group of local colleagues to share their experience, principles and philosophy. This state of the art three day course on lateral skull base will combine the theory lectures and the practical part in a hands-on laboratory setting. Scientific lectures are organized in sessions to provide you with contemporary knowledge in the interdisciplinary management of lateral skull base lesions. In the hands-on-cadaver workshop you will learn how to perform lateral skull base surgery techniques. Participants are also encouraged to bring and present their own cases for discussion. We hope to meet your expectations and that everyone of you will return home enriched with up-to-date knowledge and enhanced skills. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy Vienna s historical sites and a variety of cultural activities. We wish you a successful and fruitful meeting as well as a pleasant stay. See you in Vienna! Astrid Reichwein, Christian Matula, Engelbert Knosp Rolf Ewers, Wolfgang Gstöttner, Christos Perisanidis (from left to right) 3
