3 INTRODUCTION Dear colleagues and participants, Due to increasing specialisation and newly developed surgical techniques colorectal surgery becomes more and more sophisticated. All the more education and training is required to maintain and enhance quality of colorectal surgery. So far there is no surgical hands-on training course for coloproctologists available. Therefore the aim of our first international Wuerzburg Coloproctology Course is to offer education and training for established colorectal surgery as well as for newly developed techniques focussing on the transperineal and transanal approach. By means of live surgery - performed by highly experienced international specialists -, evidenced based colorectal lectures and specifically developed hands-on training models we like to instruct and train participants with basic and specialized surgical skills. The Course is directed to either young coloproctologists under education as well as for advanced surgeons who want to exchange experience. Realization of the course is in conjunction with the Interdisciplinary Training and Simulation Centre (INTUS) at the university hospital in Wuerzburg.
