A+ EMPLOYMENT RATES Before they ve even crossed the convocation stage, many SAIT students know where they ll be working after graduation. That s because employers recruit SAIT s in-demand grads while they re still students. And each year, more and more employers vie for one of the coveted booths at Career Directions, SAIT s student career fair, for the opportunity to recruit industry-ready SAIT students. Last year s fair saw over 150 employers recruiting at SAIT Polytechnic. The employment rate for our 2014 graduating class was 94 per cent. AT HOME IN THE LABORATORY At SAIT Polytechnic, our Architectural Technologies and Civil Engineering students learn about home design from the floorboards up, constructing real houses in our indoor home building lab as well as studying computer-aided design and drafting. It s just one of many SAIT classrooms designed to provide students with real-world learning experiences. From healthcare simulation labs complete with manikins who breathe and give birth, to an award-winning fine dining restaurant and a worldclass drilling simulation lab, SAIT s classrooms provide hands-on experience to ensure our students are ready to hit the ground running when they graduate. This online cost calculator tool will help you identify expected expenses and find out exactly how much money you need to save, seek or borrow to get you through your studies. Award A financial payment given to students to help fund their education in the form of a bursary, grant, or scholarship. Bursary Usually non-repayable awards based primarily on financial need. Some bursaries may include other selection criteria such as extracurricular involvement, leadership, etc. Grant Usually non-repayable awards based on need, provided by provincial or federal governments or private corporations. Scholarship An award given to students based on academic excellence and/or other achievements. Student Loan A loan that is repayable upon the completion of one s studies. All applicants to SAIT Polytechnic must also demonstrate English language proficiency prior to admission, including students educated in Canada. In order to demonstrate English language proficiency, an applicant must have: a) Completed three years of full-time instruction in the English language, with a minimum of 12 hours instruction per week; OR b) Successfully completed assessment testing in one of the following: International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum score of 6.0 in each skill/category must be an academic assessment Canadian Academic English Language Assessment (CAEL) with a minimum 60 overall band Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet Based Testing (IBT) with a minimum overall score of 80 (and a minimum score of 20 in each category). Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment (CLBA) with a score of 8 in all sections Pearson Test of English (PTE) with a minimum score of 53. Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) with a required score of 76. c) Successful completion of Level 5 in the English Language Foundations program. The SAIT Respiratory Therapy program requires Enhanced Language Training Placement Assessment (ELTPA) with a score of 9 in all sections.)
