The Canadian National Institute of Health offers a 20-month program in diagnostic medical sonography, also known as diagnostic ultrasound technology, provides both didactic and clinical education in various areas of sonography. Program participants will receive classroom, lab and clinical experiences. Clinical education occurs at partnering medical centres and medical clinics throughout Ontario. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals (CARDUP) national registry examinations in Generalist Sonography. ACCREDITED: The diagnostic medical sonography program delivered by the Canadian National Institute of Health is accredited by the Canadian Medical Association. 2 ENROLMENT PACKAGE Diagnostic medical sonography is a dynamic medical imaging profession. It involves scanning the human body with high frequency sound and plays a critical role within the health care system by providing physicians with key information that enables the diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of conditions. A sonographer uses a number of imaging procedures to facilitate the observation of body organs, tissues and blood flow for the identification and assessment of a variety of medical conditions. In order to become a sonographer in Canada, it is necessary to pass a registry exam through the Canadian Association of Registered Diagnostic Ultrasound Professionals (CARDUP). A generalist medical sonographer works as a member of the healthcare team. The sonographer performs ultrasound examinations, which can be done on almost every area of the body. Areas of particular interest include the abdomen, the pregnant and non-pregnant female pelvis, the male pelvis, the vascular system, and other areas of the body including the shoulder, thyroid, and breast. This program is designed to prepare the student for employment as a diagnostic medical sonographer (generalist). The student will become skilled through academic and clinical training to perform ultrasound examinations. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR A DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHER GENERALLY INCLUDE: performing diagnostic scanning procedures, patient care, DIAGNOSTIC MEDICAL SONOGRAPHY creating technical reports, and consultation with other allied health professionals. REQUIREMENTS FOR A CAREER AS A SONOGRAPHER: A high degree of technical skills, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, ability to problem solve in a clinical environment, excellent hand-eye coordination, and strength and stamina - particularly in the arms, shoulder and upper body.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent - Grade 12 English (U) or (C), 60% or higher - Grade 12 math (U) or (C), 60% or higher - Grade 12 physics (U) or (C), 70% or higher, university-level is highly recommended - Grade 12 biology (U) or (C), 70% or higher If English is a second language for the applicant, a Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score must be provided: - TOEFL minimum scores of: 580 paper-based, 237 computer-based, 88 Internet-based - IELTS academic: band score overall of CAEL: overall band score of 70 - CLBA: overall band score of 8 Entrance exam based on high school English, math, physics, biology and spatial reasoning. - Applicant must have a passing grade of 60% or higher. Exam also has an essay component. 4 ENROLMENT PACKAGE TUITION Tuition Fees Choosing to get an education is one of the most important decisions anyone can make. Planning ahead is equally important in a student s journey. We ve put together cost of attendance in order to help students calculate costs and plan ahead. The diagnostic medical sonography program s all inclusive tuition fee is $40, This fee includes textbooks, supplies, and uniforms. The majority of all fees are eligible for tuition tax credits. The total fee may be paid in installments. First - A tuition deposit of $4,000, along with a signed contract, is required to reserve your place in the program. This payment is due within 30 days of receiving an Offer of Admission letter from CNIH. Second - The first tuition payment ($16,450) is due 30-days prior to the start of your program. Third - The remainder of the tuition payment ($19,730) is paid in 11 equal installments of $1,793.64, due on the first of every month. Fees breakdown: Tuition and fees: $38,000 Books: $ 1,650 Expendable supplies: $ 180 Uniforms and equipment: $ 350 $40,180 Students are expected to spend eight (8) months in a clinical practicum in a variety of locations. CNIH will make every attempt to locate students in placements of their choosing. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from placements and for the costs of relocation including travel and accommodation. 6 ENROLMENT PACKAGE LEARNING FACILITIES CNIH has been designed for teaching, laboratory, simulation and clinical activities. Low student-to-resource ratios ensure adequate physical facilities, faculty members, support staff, equipment, clients and patients for knowledge and skill development. The classroom and theory portions of the programs are held in five (5) classrooms, a library and computer lab. This student space is complimented by a large student lounge (with a kitchenette and microwaves). CNIH is conveniently located in Lincoln Fields Mall close to several restaurants. Lab and clinical activities are held in the remaining space. This space includes: ultrasound lab with 6 scanning bays. a student dental hygiene clinic with 20 chairs, sterilization centre and clinical supplies dispensary male and female locker rooms & washrooms
