4 College & Program Information College of the North Atlantic is Newfoundland and Labrador s public college one of the largest post-secondary educational and skills training centres in Canada, with a history dating back more than 40 years. Today we have 17 campus locations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and one in the Middle East State of Qatar. We are pleased to welcome students from all over the world to our exceptional destination. College of the North Atlantic offers over 100 full-time diploma programs and more than 300 part-time courses for some 20,000 students each year in: Academics & Applied Arts Business Studies Engineering Technology Industrial Trades Information Technology Tourism and Natural Resources English as a Second Language (ESL)

6 Costs and Admissions Information Fee Information College of the North Atlantic understands the financial challenges that face international students so we work hard to keep our fess and costs as low as possible while maintaining a high quality education. Our rates are among the lowest in Canada. Admission Requirements All applicants should submit all recent transcripts. Applications will be reviewed and assessed on an individual basis. As a general rule: Equivalent to 60% in the Canadian High School system Applicants from British-oriented educational systems should present the General Certificate in Secondary Education. Certain programs require achievement in specific subject areas, such as Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry or Biology. Transcripts will be assessed on an individual basis. Students who have completed advanced courses in Mathematics and Sciences may be eligible to receive advanced standing for those courses. Fee Application Fee $100 Tuition Fee Amount $3,300 per 15 week semester $1,650 per 6 week semester Non-technical programs have two (2) semesters a year (Sept Dec/Jan- April). Technical programs include an intersession in May/June. Registration Fee $95 The following costs are estimations of expenses, not exact figures. Textbooks Health Insurance Living Expense $500 per semester (regular programs) $50 per semester (ESL) $600 per year $600 per month

7 Application Procedure 1. Applicants must complete the International Student Application Form and forward it, along with an application fee, proof of English competency and academic transcripts to the address on the application form. 2. The application will be reviewed and, if accepted a letter of acceptance will be issued to the student. The letter will confirm fees, enrolment, program of study and length of program. 3. Upon receipt of the Letter of Acceptance, tuition for the first semester of the program of studies is due to the college. 4. Applicants should take their letter of acceptance to the nearest Canadian Diplomatic Mission to apply for a Study Permit. 5. Once an applicant has been issued a study Permit from the Canadian Diplomatic Mission, they must advise the college and make arrangements to travel to Canada and begin their program at College of the North Atlantic. Language Requirements Students who do not provide evidence of English proficiency or who do not meet the require standard may be accepted into English as a Second Language (ESL) provided that they agree to be tested upon arrival and complete ESL if they do not meet the standard. If students successfully demonstrate English proficiency on this test, they are accepted into their program of choice and may begin immediately. If English as a Second Language is required prior to program entry, students may be allowed to audit some courses from their program concurrent with their English CNA will accept most internationally recognized tests of English proficiency The required standard for direct entry without doing ESL is TOEFL Paper 550, TOEFL CBT 213, TOEFL IBT 80, IETLS Band 6.5 or equivalent. Age Requirements The minimum age accepted by College of the North Atlantic is 17 years

9 Stephen Gilharry First Year Electrical Engineering Technology Student from Corozal, Belize Stephen was awarded a full-scholarship from Belize Electricity Limited to study at CNA. I wasn t really sure what I would do when I finish Sixth form in Belize. I was interested in Engineering and I knew there were not a lot of options for studying this in Belize. I am the fourth of eight children in my family and I was really hoping for a scholarship to study. When I found out that Belize Electricity Limited(BEL) was offering a scholarship to study Electrical Engineering Technology at College of the North Atlantic, I knew that this was the right thing for me. I found out in June 2008 that I was awarded the scholarship, after a competitive application process. I was excited when I got the news but I did not really know what to expect. I had researched the program and I knew that I was interested but I didn t really know much about Canada, especially Newfoundland. When I stepped off the plane I was expecting it to be winter but was surprised that the weather in September was not as cold as I had thought and that there was no snow in sight! I have siblings studying in Mexico, Cuba and the USA and now I am here in Canada on a full scholarship from Belize Electricity Limited. I am really enjoying the program, and I like the hands-on aspect of the training. I know that I received one of the best scholarships available in Belize. Not only does BEL cover all educational expenses, personal expenses and flights, I am also guaranteed employment with the company when I graduate!

I have met great teachers who really focus on making students learn on the best way possible. I found a great way to organize my time in terms of homework, classes, projects and exams. I have made really good friends in the college too, and the most important thing: I have had the time of my life in the college my Business Management course!
