Exercise Guide Content Administrator Training 3/1/2011

Exercise 1: Create a Page Goal: In this exercise, we will create pages within the training site. 1. In the Tree List, Select the page Training Site. Under this page, Highlight Test Site. 2. Click the button labeled New and select New page from the drop-down menu. Figure 1: Creating a New Page 3. A new window appears, asking you for information needed to create a new page. 4. In the field Title, Enter Your Name Training. Under Name, Enter (your initials)-training. Select Administrative Department Content Page from the list of templates. 5. Click on Create. The page now appears in the list of pages in the right-hand pane. To open the newly created page, you have several options: In the Tree List, double-click it. In the Detail Pane, select it. Right-click and select Open. In the Detail Pane, double-click it. Figure 3: View showing the Tree List (left) and the Detail Pane (right) A new window opens, displaying our new page. The Sidekick floating window should appear on top of our page. This is used to provide a range of components for insertion in our page. Now our page is ready to enrich with content! Exercise 2: Add Content Goal: In this exercise, we will learn how to add four content types to a newly created page. Content represents the heart of our page. Everything our visitors will see is presented to them in the form of content. We will start with a simple paragraph, then we will have a look at other component types that can further enrich our page. Exercise 2.1: Adding a text box 1. Select the left-hand tab at the top of the Sidekick. This tab is called Components. Select the Radford Core section by clicking on the + to open that section, if it is not already visible. 2. Drag the component labeled Text from the sidekick and drop it in the outlined space just below the image header. A new Text component is added to the page and is ready to be edited! Exercise 2.2: Adding text to a text box 1. Double click on the component. A dialog box opens. 2. Click on the white space within the dialog box and enter desired text. Note that you can format text with bullets; add numbered lists; format text with Bold, Italics and Underline; and more. Experiment with this a little. 3. Click on OK. Exercise 2.3: Adding an image 1. Select the Components tab in the Sidekick. Select the Radford Core section by clicking on the + to open that section, if it is not already visible. 2. Drag the component labeled Image from the sidekick and drop it in the outlined space just below the image header. A new Image component is added to the page and is ready to be edited! 3. To add an image, right-click on the new Image component and select Edit. A dialog box showing two tabs will open. 4. Click on the Image tab. 5. Find an image from the bar on the left. Drag the image into the dialog box. Figure 6: Image Dialog Box (drag images into this box) 6. To further modify the image, Click on the Advanced tab. You will see the following options. a. Alt Text: Place text here describing the image for visitors that are visually impaired. b. Description: Place text here if you wish to have a caption for your image. c. Link to: Click on the magnifying glass icon to browse to a page within the Content Management System if you wish the image to link to another page. If the page isn t within the Content Management System, paste a URL into the box next to the magnifying glass icon. d. Size: This is where you can adjust the pixel dimensions of the image. e. Title: Disregard this box. f. Decorator: Disregard this box for this exercise. g. Alignment: Check this box if you wish your image to be centered. 7. Click OK. Congratulations! You have added an image to your page!

Exercise 2.4: Adding a text and image component 1. Select the Components tab in the Sidekick. Select the Radford Core section by clicking on the + to open that section, if it is not already visible. 2. Drag the component labeled Text & Image from the sidekick and drop it in the outlined space just below the image header. A new Text & Image component is added to the page and is ready to be edited! 3. Double click on the new component. A dialog box appears. 4. Click on the first tab, labeled Text and entered the desired text. As with the previous type of text box, you can format your text with bullets, numbers, etc. 5. Click on the Image tab. As with the above exercise, drag the desired image into the dialog box. 8. Click on Advanced Image Properties.. You will see the following options. a. Alt Text: Place text here describing the image for visitors that are visually impaired. b. Style: Select Left Aligned or Right Aligned to align your image. c. Description: Place text here if you wish to have a caption for your image. d. Link to: Click on the magnifying glass icon to browse to a page within the Content Management System if you wish the image to link to another page. If the page isn t within the Content Management System, paste a URL into the box next to the magnifying glass icon. e. Size: This is where you can adjust the pixel dimensions of the image. f. Title: Disregard this box. g. Decorator: Disregard this box for this exercise. h. Break After Image: Uncheck this box if you wish for your text to go around your image. 9. Click on OK.

Exercise 2.5: Adding a heading From time to time, you may want to divide your text using headings. This exercise will explain how to add Content Headers to your page. 1. Select the Components tab in the Sidekick. Select the Radford Core section by clicking on the + to open that section, if it is not already visible. 2. Drag the component labeled Content Heading from the sidekick and drop it in the outlined space just below the image header. A new Content Heading component is added to the page and is ready to be edited! 3. Right click on the Page Heading and select Edit. A dialog box will open. Figure 7: Content Heading Dialog Box 4. From the first drop-down menu, select the desired heading size. 5. Type the heading in the Heading Text box. 6. Click on OK. Congratulations! You have completed Exercise 2!

Exercise 3: Adding Sidebars Goal: In this exercise, we will learn how to add sidebar content to a page. The sidebar option on the right-hand side of the page gives you the opportunity to call out content on your site. There are several options for the right-hand sidebar. Exercise 3.1: Creating a Right Sidebar with a Header The sidebar option on the right-hand side of the page gives you the opportunity to call out content on your site. There are several options for the right-hand sidebar. 1. Select the Components tab in the Sidekick. Select the Other section by clicking on the + to open that section, if it is not already visible. 2. Drag the component labeled Sidebar Box from the sidekick and drop it in the outlined space just below the image header. A new Sidebar Box component is added to the page and is ready to be edited! 3. Right click on the box that outlines the entire Component (see Figure 8). Figure 8: Sidebar Component 4. Click on Edit. A dialog box will open. 5. Type a heading in the Title field. 6. If you would like to have a button link at the bottom of your sidebar box, add the phrase that you would like linked in the Button Label field. Add the URL or use the magnifying glass find a page or file you would like the button to link to. 7. Click on OK. to

8. To add a photo to your sidebar, Right Click on the white box outlined with a dotted line. A dialog box will open. 9. Select the Image component from the dialog box. A dialog box will open. Edit this box in the manner you edited an Image component in Exercise 2.3. 10. To add text to the sidebar, Right Click on the white box outlined with a dotted line. A dialog box will open. 11. Select the Text component from the dialog box. A dialog box will open. Edit this box in the manner you edited a Text component in Exercise 2.2. Exercise 3.2: Adding Related Links A list of links related to the content on your page can be helpful to visitors. 1. Select the Components tab in the Sidekick. Select the Radford Sidebar section by clicking on the + to open that section, if it is not already visible. 2. Drag the component labeled Related Links from the sidekick and drop it in the outlined space just below the left navigation. A new Related Links component is added to the page and is ready to be edited! 3. Right Click on the component and select Edit. A dialog box will open. 4. Click on the +. Figure 9: Related Links Component 5. Paste the URL of the related site into the first box. 6. Type the name of that page in the Title box. 7. Click on the + again to add additional related links.

Exercise 3.3: Adding a Featured Link 1. Select the Components tab in the Sidekick. Select the Radford Sidebar section by clicking on the + to open that section, if it is not already visible. 2. Drag the component labeled Featured Link from the sidekick and drop it in the outlined space just below the left navigation. A new Featured Link component is added to the page and is ready to be edited! 3. Right click on the component and select Edit. A dialog box will open. 4. Click on the magnifying glass icon to browse to a page within the Content Management System if you wish the image to link to another page. If the page isn t within the Content Management System, paste a URL into the box next to the magnifying glass icon. 5. Type the name of the page into the Link Text box. 6. Click on OK. Exercise 3.4: Adding Social Media Links 1. Select the Components tab in the Sidekick. Select the Radford Sidebar section by clicking on the + to open that section, if it is not already visible. 2. Drag the component labeled Follow Us On from the sidekick and drop it in the outlined space just below the left navigation. A new Follow Us On component is added to the page and is ready to be edited! 3. Right click on the component and select Edit. A dialog box will open. 4. Check the boxes that appear before Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to have those options appear on the page. 5. Click on OK. Exercise 3.5: Adding a Promotional Box 1. Select the Components tab in the Sidekick. Select the Radford Sidebar section by clicking on the + to open that section, if it is not already visible. 2. Drag the component labeled Promotional Box from the sidekick and drop it in the outlined space just below the left navigation. A new Promotional Box component is added to the page and is ready to be edited!

Figure 10: Promotional Box Component 3. Right click on the component and select Edit. A dialog box will open. 4. In the General tab, type the words you wish to appear linked. 5. Click on the magnifying glass icon to browse to a page within the Content Management System if you wish the image to link to another page. If the page isn t within the Content Management System, paste a URL into the box next to the magnifying glass icon. 6. Ignore the other options in this tab. Click on the Image tab. 7. Find an image from the bar on the left. Drag the image into the dialog box. Congratulations! You have completed Exercise 3!

Exercise 4: Managing Page Properties Goal: In this exercise, you will learn how to manage the properties of your newly created page. Exercise 4.1: Managing Your Page s Name and Description The name of your page can appear in different ways in different places. This exercise will explain how to modify the Page Properties to accomplish that. 1. In the Sidekick, Click on the Page Properties tab. A dialog box will open. 2. Expand the More Titles and Description panel by clicking on the downward arrow. The following options will appear: a. Description: This is where you will type a description of your page for users who find our page in a search engine. b. Navigation Title: If you want the name of your page to appear different in the navigation, this is where you would type that. c. Page Title: Leave blank d. Subnavigation Title: Leave blank e. Window Title: This is the title that appears in the bar at the top of your browser. Change this if you want something more (or less) descriptive than the name of your page.

Exercise 4.2: Hiding the Right Sidebar Sometimes you may not have content for the right sidebar. In that case, you want to hide the sidebar so a blank column does not appear. 1. In the Sidekick, Click on the Page Properties tab. 2. Click on Page Properties. A dialog box will open. 3. Check the box labeled Hide Right Sidebar. 4. Click on OK. Congratulations! You have completed Exercise 4!

Exercise 5: Advanced Components Goal: In this exercise, we will cover adding columns and tables to a page. Exercise 5.1: Adding columns 1. Select the Components tab in the Sidekick. Select the Columns section by clicking on the + to open that section, if it is not already visible. 2. Drag the component labeled 3 Columns from the sidekick and drop it in the outlined space just below the left navigation. A new 3 Column component is added to the page and is ready to be edited! 3. The 3 Column Component is contained within the two blue bars. Drag Text and Image boxes into the areas with dotted lines to add content to the columns. Note: To add 2 columns, follow the same steps but select the 2 Column component. Exercise 5.2: Adding a Table 1. Select the Components tab in the Sidekick. Select the Radford Core section by clicking on the + to open that section, if it is not already visible. 2. Drag the component labeled Text from the sidekick and drop it in the outlined space just below the left navigation. A new Text component is added to the page and is ready to be edited! 3. Right Click on the component and select Edit. A dialog box will open. 4. Click within the white space in the dialog box. 5. Click on the Table icon located within the top bar of the dialog box. A Table Properties dialog box will open. 6. Modify the table properties to have the number of columns and rows desired. 7. In the Style field, Click on the drop down menu and select Alternating Row Colors. 8. Click on OK. 9. Click on OK on the Text dialog box. 10. Click on the component twice, slowly. It should now be outlined in green. (Figure 11) Figure 11: Table 11. Click within the table to add content. 12. When finished, Click anywhere outside the green box. Congratulations! You have completed Exercise 5!

Exercise 6: Publishing, Deleting and Moving a Page Goal: In this exercise, we will learn how to activate and deactivate a page. Exercise 6.1: Activate a Page 1. In the Sidekick, Click on the Page Properties tab.. 2. Click on Activate. Exercise 6.2: Deactivate a Page 1. In the Sidekick, click on the Websites icon. This will open a new tab that shows the Tree List and Detail Pane. 2. In the Detail Panel Highlight the page you want to deactivate. 3. Click on Deactivate. Exercise 6.3: Delete a Page 1. In the Sidekick, click on the Websites icon. This will open a new tab that shows the Tree List and Detail Pane. 2. In the Detail Panel Highlight the page you want to delete. 3. Click on Deactivate. 4. Click on Delete. Note: Pages MUST be deactivated before they are deleted!

Exercise 6.4: Change the URL of a Page 1. In the Sidekick, click on the Websites icon. This will open a new tab that shows the Tree List and Detail Pane. 2. In the Detail Panel Highlight the page you want to rename. 3. Click on Move. A dialog box will open. Figure 12: Page Moving Dialog Box 4. In the Rename To field, type the desired URL. Note, you can only change the portion of the URL that appears after the last /. Limit the new URL to no more than two words. If the URL has two words, use a hyphen in between the two words (i.e. test-page). 5. Click on Move. Exercise 6.5: Move a Page Sometimes, after creating a page you wish you had placed it somewhere else on the site. This exercise shows you how to move a page to a different location. 1. In the Sidekick, click on the Websites icon. This will open a new tab that shows the Tree List and Detail Pane. 2. In the Detail Panel Highlight the page you want to move. 3. Click on Move. A dialog box will open. 4. In the To field, click on the magnifying glass icon to browse to a page within the Content Management System under which you wish to place this page. 5. Click on Move. Congratulations! You have completed Exercise 6!

Exercise 7: Versioning You want to try something new, but you re not sure if your page modifications will be successful. In such a case, it is a good idea to create a snapshot of your current page, and, if you are not satisified with your modifications, simply restore the old state. Goal: To learn how to create a Version of your page. Exercise 7.1: Creating a Version 1. In the Sidekick, Click on the Versioning tab. 2. Click on Create Version. Add a comment if desired before clicking on Create Version. A message will appear, informing you that the version was created: For example, Revision 1.0 created for: Jaime Hunt Training. 3. Make your changes. Exercise 7.2: Restore a Page 1. In the Sidekick, Click on the Versioning tab and browse to Restore Version 2. From the window that appears, select the version you want to restore. Congratulations! You have completed Exercise 7!

Exercise 8: Uploading Images Goal: In this exercise, we will learn how to upload images to your folder within the Digital Asset Manager. This exercise cannot be completed in the Training Environment. 1. In the Sidekick, click on the Websites icon. This will open a new tab that shows the Tree List and Detail Pane. 2. In the real environment, you would browse to the folder with the name of your department. In this case, from the Tree List Click on the + symbol next to Digital Assets. Next, Click on the + symbol next to Radford and Highlight Content Imagery. 3. In the Detail Pane, Click on the arrow next to New. 4. Click the button labeled New and select New file from the drop-down menu. In the training environment, New file will be gray. In the real environment, you would browse to the appropriate file and Click upload. 5. Scroll through the list of images to find the one you just uploaded. Highlight the image, then Click on Activate at the top of the Detail Pane. Congratulations! You have completed Exercise 8!
