Please welcome them as they become a part of the Mount Carmel family: Riley Winstead arrived on May 10. Riley came to CNU as a freshman, and over the next few years discerned a calling to priesthood so he is one of Mount Carmel s own. Riley is a college seminarian at St. John Paul II Seminary in Washington, DC. He was born in Minot, North Dakota, but spent most of his life in Northern Virginia and Northern California. Riley has a twin sister who is also a student at CNU. Fr. John David, who as pastor is also responsible for Catholic Campus Ministry at CNU as chaplain, helped him greatly in his discernment. Eventually, he met Fr. Michael Boehling, Vocations Director for the Diocese of Richmond, and was encouraged to apply to seminary towards the conclusion of his sophomore year at CNU. Riley will be with our parish through June 7, and then he will spend the rest of the Summer in San Diego, where his parents now live. John Baab will begin his pastoral year at OLMC in July. He is one of seven children and was born and raised in Richmond, his parents having grown up in Newport News and Hampton. He graduated from Radford University in 2008, studying Business Marketing and Philosophy, and worked in direct marketing for almost four years after college before beginning priestly formation in 2012 at St. Mary s Seminary in Baltimore, MD. John Christian will continue to be with us through the early part of August. After completing his pastoral year, he will return to St. Mary s Seminary in Baltimore for his final two years of formation. God willing, he will be ordained a deacon in Spring of 2016, and a priest for our Diocese in June of 2017. Bulletin notices and advertising: All information must be sent to the parish office no later than 8AM on Mondays. Please use e mail if at all possible and send to: emazary@olmc.org. If you would like to advertise on the back of the bulletin, please call J.S. Paluch at 1 800 524 0263.

And there are few things more comforting to a man than to know the woman he gave his heart to, will protect it with her life. Today is Pentecost Sunday. Is there evidence that the Holy Spirit is working through us; are the fruits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control in our lives and marriage? The next Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend is June 26 28 in Richmond. For more information or to apply, visit our website at visit www.renewmarriage vasouth.org or applications@renewmarriage vasouth.org or 757 483 3209 Ladies of Carmel DIOCESE OF ARLINGTON DIOCESE OF RICHMOND Representing the Virginia Catholic Bishops in Public Policy Matters Virginia Bishops Francis X. DiLorenzo and Paul S. Loverde have called on the faithful to help radically shift the Commonwealth s ongoing death penalty debate. In a statement published in The Arlington Catholic Herald and The Catholic Virginian, the Bishops write that they want to shift the conversation from who should be executed or how to execute them to why the death penalty is still being applied in a society that has other adequate means to protect itself without taking a human life. The Bishops exhorted Catholics to fully embrace the culture of life, which affirms the sanctity of the unborn, the poor and vulnerable, immigrants and refugees, and even the least lovable members of society, those convicted of committing heinous crimes. The statement is available on the Virginia Catholic Conference (www.vacatholic.org) and the Diocese of Richmond (www.richmonddiocese.org) websites. The Ladies of Carmel Spring Brunch and Installation of officers will be held on Sunday, June 7 following the 10:00 Mass in St Michael Hall. Tickets for the brunch can be purchased for $10 and will be available after all Masses next weekend, May 30 & 31. Tickets are also available for purchase in the Parish Office through May 29. Tickets will not be available after May 31. If you would like additional information, please contact Michale Weaver at loc@olmc.org. Welcoming/Registration Our next parish Registration/Welcoming will be held on Sunday, June 14, following the 10AM Mass in Our Lady s Gathering Room. You will be given parish information and a brief tour of the property, and will complete a registration form which will ask which sacraments your family members have received. We look forward to meeting you.

School Board Discernment Dear Parents, Guardians, Parishioners, and Friends, Before we finish the current school year, we are in the thick of planning for next year. Part of this planning includes renewing membership for our School Advisory Board. The School Board supports the pastor and the principal of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in ensuring we can sustain the mission of the school at this parish. Specifically, Board members bring expertise in the area of finance and budgeting, legislative issues, development, marketing, and buildings and grounds. Members are asked to make a three year commitment if selected to serve. School Board meetings are scheduled monthly with needed committee work being completed between meetings. The Board is a very important part of the school and has been responsible for accomplishing many of the efforts in structuring a development department as well as bringing some building projects to completion.
