Inclusive Ministries Annual SPRED Mass: Wednesday, May 27, at 6:30pm The SPRED Community of Catechists and Friends with their families will gather on May 27 at 6:30pm in the OLMC Worship Center for a special SPRED liturgy. Our SPRED friends are delighted to be included in the liturgical celebrations at OLMC. As a gesture of gratitude to all, we welcome and encourage you to join us for an agape-a simple sharing of food and fellowship-following the Mass. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet our SPRED friends, their families and catechists, and to personally extend your welcome. SPRED (Special Religious Development) prepares persons with intellectual disabilities to fully belong in the liturgical life of the parish. Catechists welcome their friends into a small faith community where the Word of God is shared through symbolic catechesis. OLMC currently has two SPRED groups (for adults 18 and older) that meet on Wednesday evenings. 3 Page 3 May 10, 2015 Children s Faith Formation Kingdom Kids Nursery (1-3 yrs) meets for the duration of the 10AM Mass, every Sunday. KidCheck Account required. Children in the Nursery are introduced to Catholic concepts through Pflaum Gospel Weeklies, which invite children to listen to the Gospel and build Christian relationships. The nurturing staff and volunteers provide a safe, Christian environment for the children in their care. Parents who use the nursery are asked to volunteer about one Sunday per month to keep our Co-op Nursery staffed each Sunday at the 10am Mass. Kingdom Kids Worship (1 st -5 th Grades) provides a liturgical adaptation of the Sunday readings for children in 1 st -5 th grade. The Children Celebrate! Liturgy of the Word with Children program from Pflaum Publishing Group guides the parish catechists proclamation of the Gospel. At OLMC, Kingdom Kids Worship is available at the 10:00am Mass. Steubenville Atlanta Youth Conference Registration is OPEN for our annual trip to the Steubenville Atlanta Youth Conference on July 9th-12th. You are invited to participate in our fun and life-changing Mission Trip from July th. Be immersed in the culture and day-to-day activities of the migrant community, grow deeper in prayer and enjoy the company of other youth from OLMC. Healing Ministries Respite Care Ministry Have you ever been in the position of having to care for a loved one full time? Or do you have a friend who has? Have you wondered how they got through it? Our new Respite Care Ministry is one way of helping a full-time caregiver cope. Through the ministry, caregivers get a sorely needed break. Through our parish Respite Ministry, a welltrained adult parishioner comes to your home for a few hours, so that the caregiver can rest, leave to run errands, or in some other way have a time of refreshment. At the same time, the Respite Minister stays with the loved one and keeps him or her safe at no cost to the family. The next meeting of the Parish Council is scheduled for Saturday, May 16 th, at 9:00 a.m. in Our Lady s Gathering Room. Event for the Year of Consecrated Life: As a follow-up event for their February Open House, the Dominican Sisters would like to invite all to a RESCHEDUED special viewing of Beloved, a documentary of the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia, followed by time for informal questions and answers about Consecrated Life. The event will be held on Thursday, May 21, beginning at 7pm, in St. Michael Hall. Soul Sisters: Save the Date Soul Sisters is for ALL the Ladies of the Parish. Employment Opportunities Our Lady of Mount Carmel School has an openings for: A part-time middle school math teacher for the upcoming school year. Teacher certification is required. A library/media center specialist for the upcoming school year for grades pre-k through eight. A degree in library science/certification is preferred, and candidates should also have an understanding of Catholic traditions and beliefs. A morning/afternoon route bus driver for the school year, as well as substitute driver(s). Candidates should have a current CDL and have at least 2 years experience. Willingness to share driving on field trips is also required. Virtus Training Upcoming VIRTUS TRAINING The Diocese mandates that all those who minister with children or youth must take this safe environment training prior to volunteering. All parents using the Cooperative Nursery at OLMC must also be trained. Our Lady of Mount Carmel School News School Garden Planted and Blessed Our 7 th graders have been hard at work planning, building and planting the new school garden, made possible by a $2,000 School Garden Grant from the Whole Kids Foundation, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization founded by Whole Foods Market. Father John David blessed the garden and the students are excited to continue practicing concepts learned in math, science and health as they work on the garden. Working with the garden, our students will achieve a host of curriculum objectives crossing over from science and health to community service. The garden will be organically maintained, using beneficial insects and non-toxic solutions for pest and disease control. The students will study insect life cycles and plant structures at various stages of development, and test how different variables affect plant growth. The produce grown will be used by the students to plan and consume nutritious dishes, and the students will also practice the virtue of compassion by donating food to the OLMC parish food bank as part of our outreach ministry.
