REPORT ON GANIT WEEK As per the guide lines of CBSE, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sh. Srinivasa Ramanujan and to actively promote interest of students in Mathematics and its application by promoting Mathematics, GANIT week was celebrated from 16 to 22 December 2014 in Navy Children School, Kochi. Mathematics education has traditionally emphasized the worst face of mathematics. Students are taught many mathematical facts, but they are rarely taught what the mathematics process is and how to employ it. Learner must see mathematics as something to talk about, to communicate, to discuss among themselves, to work together on. For Mathematization of the child s mind, the Math Lab set up in the school should provide a user friendly environment to explore mathematics and to learn on his own and make his/her own assessment. In the month of June 2014 an exhibition in working and still models for classes VI X, was conducted. On 15 December, the film "The Fourth Dimension" produced by Vigyan Prasar was downloaded and shown to students through the Smart board. Students were enthused by it.
On 16 December Origami competition was conducted for students of classes IV & V. The following day a quiz competition on "Indian Mathematicians" was conducted for the students of classes IV to XI. It was conducted class wise and section wise separately. A Poster making competition was conducted for students of classes VI & VII on the topic "Mathematics in everyday life". An essay writing competition for classes VIII to XI was conducted on the topics "Difficulties and problems while learning Mathematics" and "Mathematics in daily life". The students enjoyed celebrating the GANIT week. It was informative, innovative, motivational and generated awareness on Mathematicians. The activities proved to be fruitful to the students.
