e-navigation made easy NAVTOR AS Strandgaten 18 N-4370 EGERSUND Norway www.navtor.com

ABOUT NAVTOR NAVTOR, LEADING THE WAY IN E-NAVIGATION People are at the heart of NAVTOR. Our people are dedicated to providing innovative solutions that provide tangible benefits to yours. Using the latest e-navigation technology and delivery platforms, we simplify tasks, increase efficiency and improve operations. This makes life easier for navigators, and safer, clearer and more efficient for shipowners, ship managers and operators. That s the aim of our team and the guiding philosophy of our business. NAVTOR doesn t just deliver technology; we deliver enhanced navigation, performance and user experience. NAVTOR has reimagined the ENC proposition, fine-tuning it to perfection with state-of-the-art technology. Our solution enables the seamless distribution, updating and management of ENCs, as we move towards the goal of instantaneous, online-enabled ECDIS operation. This makes the ECDIS mandate easier to comply with, for everyone. And we mean everyone. NAVTOR s ENC service is compatible with all makes of ECDIS, providing a real advantage for shipowners with multiple ECDIS brands across their fleet. 1

NAUTICAL CHARTS AND PUBLICATIONS THE TRANSITION FROM PAPER TO DIGITAL NAVTOR supplies a full range of Nautical Charts and Publications, both paper and digital. Through the joint venture arrangement with NAVTOR-Nautic AB, we are now able to deliver the complete spectrum of IMO, Weatherby, and Admiralty digital and paper products. ADMIRALTY Standard Nautical Charts comply with Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) regulations. The charts within the series offer a range of scales, useful for passage planning, ocean crossings, coastal navigation and operations entering port. ADMIRALTY Nautical Publications provide information you can rely on. The nautical publications are recognised by mariners around the globe for their accuracy and excellence. ECDIS carriage is mandatory and began its gradual rollout in July 2012. The legislation will be phased in by ship type and size, eventually applying to almost all large merchant and passenger vessels. The featured diagram will help you identify ECDIS installation deadlines for your vessel or fleet. Existing ships are required to fit ECDIS before the first survey following the implementation date. If you re acquiring new ships, remember that the timetable for newbuilds is based upon the date when the keel is laid. There are two very important exceptions. Existing cargo ships of fewer than 10,000 gross tons won t require ECDIS. In addition, some flag states may also exempt ships due to be taken out of service within two years of the implementation date. ECDIS compliance dates by ship type and size. This chart shows when the regulations come into force for each vessel type. 3 4

VALUE ADDED ENC SERVICE FOR ALL ECDIS SYSTEMS SEAMLESS ENC DISTRIBUTION AND UPDATING No more CDs and no more worrying about the latest chart editions and updates, just a simple, time and labour saving way to access the latest Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) on the NavStick. Once signed up as a Navtor ENC Service subscriber, the NavStick is shipped to you containing global ENC coverage. In order to fulfil its operational potential, NAVTOR examined the needs of navigators and saw real value in the provision of additional services to supplement our innovative ENC distribution. As a result, NAVTOR now delivers weather prediction services alongside a safe and economical routing solution. The burden of increasing box ticking and paper shuffling takes up more and more of the bridge officers valuable time, leaving less time for their most important duty actually navigating the vessel. One of the biggest issues is chart management and, more specifically, checking that the licenses and permits needed to access the timesaving and safety benefits. It automatically checks for updates and, should they not be carried out, generates email reminders for the navigator. In addition, it boasts a function enabling it to print reports, demonstrating to port authorities that vessels have the most up to date, fully authorised ENCs. Start NavSync and insert the NavStick into one of the computer s USB ports This, in combination with further required electronic charts for This is a failsafe way to get the latest relevant navigational information, upcoming voyages are ordered. information at the touch of a few creates a package that is the modern navigator s prime source of digital nautical information. Or, in other words, a complete e-navigation solution. However, by making this information fully available online, instead of on CDs, the navigator can gain easy access to the very latest versions of the required ENCs. The NavStick USB buttons, delivering seamless control over updates, paperwork and time management. And, of course, greater efficiency and happier navigators. Update NavStick with the latest ENC database drive acts as the bridge between the ECDIS and an internetenabled computer. NAVTOR s ENC service is offered for distribution on the pre-loaded USB-based 5 NavStick, allowing navigators to instantly download global charts and licences to the ECDIS. An online synchronisation feature ensures that the latest updates are always available on demand. Move the NavStick to the ECDIS and install permits and ENCs 6

WEATHER SERVICES AND WEATHER ROUTING WORLD S FIRST DIGITAL CHART TABLE NavStation combines the unique NAVTOR developed software with an optional gigapad touch device, giving navigators an intuitive and user-friendly interface to plan optimal vessel routes. The software gathers and overlays the data navigators require including ENCs, weather data, tidal information, digital publications, and other services like piracy updates on a single screen. Users can then grab, swipe 8. Admiralty Total Tide, Digital List of Lights and Radio Signals are easy at hand 7. Split screen showing the initial and the latest optimized route 6. Wave height along route with alarm set for wave height NAVTOR offers an integrated weather and routing functionality of AWT s Bon Voyage System (BVS) that is an easy to use graphical marine voyage optimization system that provides on-board and around-the-clock weather-routing information. This sophisticated yet user-friendly system is both comprehensive and cost effective, making it an indispensable route-planning tool. Voyage Optimization Calculate Least Time, Fuel or Cost Using your on-board computer, BVS provides the most recent weather and ocean data to the ship by broadband or email communications in a highly compressed format to minimize communication costs. This data is then used to generate colour enhanced maps and graphics that allow the ship s captain to easily view and interpret potential problem areas in advance. BVS has an improved optimization algorithm along with customizable speed down and consumption curves that deliver more accurate estimates of fuel cost and time en-route. Both weather induced constraints and no-go zones can be set to account for the special requirements of each particular voyage. and manoeuvre the layers on the giant touch pad to unlock a new e-navigation reality. NAVTOR NavStation on your PC The NavStation software, which also operates on standard computers, has been developed and tested with a series of successful trial installations undertaken with shipowners based in Norway. NavStation utilises NAVTOR s market leading ENC service as its base layer. Subscribers can then add and integrate additional NAVTOR e-navigation products and services, including weather overlay, all Admiralty s digital products and publications, as well as services like piracy or iceberg updates. It s a unique voyage-planning tool and an easy way to really seize the great potential that e-navigation offers. 5. Wind speed along route with alarm set for wind speed 4. This provides both the navigator on board and the ship management on shore with a full overview of chart usage, chart update history, vessel tracking and service management, in addition to a free three-day weather prediction service. NavTracker puts users in control, giving them a simple way to handle administration and make changes to their chosen subscription. The Operational Area functionality allows the user to add or remove charts as needed, simply and efficiently.
