About JURE The Junior Researchers of EARLI (JURE) is a network dedicated to the interests of all junior researchers of EARLI. The term "JUnior REsearcher" includes Ph.D. students and recent graduates, who have received their doctorate within the last three years. The primary aim of JURE is to represent and support Ph.D. students and early career colleagues on matters that are of interest to them. Furthermore, learning and interaction among all junior researchers as well as among junior and senior researchers are significant goals for the JURE pre-conference. JURE arranges meetings where junior researchers can discuss their research topics with other junior as well as with senior researchers, and where they can attend workshops on various topics, such as, academic writing and presentation skills. JURE provides an environment where junior members of the EARLI family can socialise and participate in a vibrant scientific community. Conference Venue The JURE 2015 conference will take place at the main campus of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT). The conference venue is at the centre of the old city and the conference itself will take place in two main buildings. Most walking distances will be kept at less than five minutes. Participants will be provided with wireless Internet access and will have access to a computer lab equipped with printers. The campus is within walking distance from public transportation (buses) and a five minute walk from the seafront and the coastal path. Participants can navigate easily across the city, using public transportation (buses), bicycles, taxis or private vehicles. The Limassol Municipality sponsors a network of public rental bikes which can be used for leisure or other business. A dedicated bike lane stretches along the beachfront, and early morning or late afternoon hours are perfect for this activity. The CUT campus is surrounded by many traditional and international restaurants and cafeterias. Taking advantage of the Mediterranean climate, two coffee breaks and a catered buffet lunch will be provided in two main open-air areas, which will be partially covered with tents and partially air-conditioned. Catering will be available to all registered participants on site and is included in the registration fee. Lunches and coffee breaks will be held in open-air areas. Limassol is located in the southern coast of the island; it is geographically the largest city in Cyprus and the second largest in population after Nicosia. The city of Limassol is well situated for local and 3
international travel to Cyprus. Its central position offers easy, highway access to all major cities, as well as the Troodos Mountains within a 35 to 45 minute-drive. It is also conveniently situated only 35 minutes away from both Larnaca and Paphos international airports, with buses running from the airports to Limassol on a 24-hour basis. Submissions and Proposal Formats Paper sessions proposals should consist of an abstract (300 words at maximum) and an extended summary (1000 words at maximum, including references). An accepted paper will be hosted in a 90-minute session in which 2-3 conceptually linked papers will be presented and discussed. Each presentation will take 15 minutes followed by 10 minutes questions facilitated by a junior peer reviewer. The session concludes with a 15 minutes discussion of all papers by a senior discussant. Poster sessions should consist of an abstract (300 words at maximum) and an extended summary (1000 words at maximum, including references). The proposal will be accepted, rejected or offered an alternative presentation format. At the conference, accepted posters will be grouped conceptually. Each poster is introduced with a brief oral presentation (max. 3 minutes). After the introductions there will be time to walk from poster to poster. Round table sessions proposals should consist of an abstract (300 words at maximum) and an extended summary (1000 words at maximum, including references). At the conference, all round tables accepted will be grouped in sessions. Each presenter will have 5 minutes to introduce his/her project and raise one or two open questions. 25 minutes are intended for discussion. Presenters should prepare a handout for the other participants but not a slide presentation. Please do note that the submission system for the JURE 2015 pre-conference is a different one than the one used for the EARLI 2015 submissions. Please check the website from August 1 st onwards to submit your proposal for the JURE 2015 pre-conference. Best-of-Jure Awards JURE has a long tradition in giving awards to outstanding contributions. The best paper, poster, and round table will be rewarded at JURE2015 with the Best-of-JURE Awards. The winners of the awards are decided entirely through an independent jury procedure. The full paper, poster or round table will be judged based on the set review criteria. The presentation will also be judged based on the set presentation criteria. Paper and presentation are considered equally in the awarding decision. Workshops A range of workshop sessions will be available at the JURE Pre-Conference. Workshops cover a range of topics related to field of learning and instruction. They are provided by experienced facilitators in their fields and are an excellent opportunity for all junior researchers to work with experts in order to develop their research skills and knowledge in a friendly and thought-provoking environment.
