1 CASL/CECA 2015 Conference Call for Presenters Sponsored by: CASL - The Connecticut Association of School Librarians and CECA- Connecticut Educators Computer Association Announcing: Call for Presenters for the CASL/CECA 2015 Conference Monday, October 26, 2015 Mohegan Sun Convention Center Located on the spacious Mohegan Sun Casino campus in Uncasville, CT Conference Theme: Break Down Walls: Empower Learners! Keynote Speaker: To Be Determined The CASL/CECA conference committee is requesting proposals that address 21 st Century Literacies and national educational standards set forth by ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) and AASL (American Association of School Librarians) and highlight best practices for integrating technology, literacy, and media skills on the district, school, and/or classroom level. In addition to traditional conference presentations, we are seeking applications from educators interested in presenting interactive sessions and leading roundtable discussions. Accepted presenters for traditional or interactive presentations will receive free registration to the conference. If there is more than one presenter in a group, the main presenter will receive the free registration. Primary Round Table discussion leaders will receive a discounted rate for registration. In previous years, our conferences have attracted many presenters from the tri- state area and beyond who successfully integrate technology, information, and media literacy skills throughout their curriculum to improve student learning. We continue this tradition and invite candidates to submit an application for the 2015 CASL/ CECA Conference. We are looking for unique presentations, which will be selected through a juried process. Presentation Requirements: Presentations must clearly support the following: Conference Title: Break Down Walls: Empower Learners Consideration is being given to proposals that address 21 st Century Skills: Collaboration for student learning Critical thinking Communication to empower learning Empowering student creativity College and career readiness Standards: All presentations must address national educational standards by ISTE and/or AASL. A presentation may address one or more standard(s) in one or more of the following: National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS- S, ISTE 2007) for- students.aspx National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS- T, ISTE 2008) for- teachers.aspx National Educational Technology Standards for Administrators (NETS- A, ISTE (2009) for- administrators.aspx National Educational Technology Standards for Coaches (Mentors) (NETS- C, ISTE (2011) for- coaches.aspx Standards for the 21st-Century Learner (AASL 2007) ningstandards/standards.cfm Continued on next page 2
3 Presentation Details: Presenters 1. Individuals or groups of up to 4 co- presenters may apply. 2. Complimentary Conference Registration and memberships in CASL and CECA are provided for one (1) Educator Presenter per presentation. 3. Additional Educator co- Presenters and all Vendor Presenters who are not Exhibiting will pay Standard Conference Registration fees by September 1, Presentation Setting All presentations are one- hour in length. All presentation rooms include a projector and screen, podium and table. Presenters are responsible for computers and any connectors necessary for connecting the computer to a VGA cable. Wireless Internet service is provided throughout the Convention Center. Application Process Applications to present at the Conference must be submitted online. The entire application process is outlined below. Please use the outline to prepare for submitting an online application. Application Deadline The application must be submitted online no later than Wednesday, April 15, See below for online application details. Notification of Selected Presenters The designated contact person for each presentation will receive notice by June 8, 2015, via as to whether or not he/she or the group is among the selected presenters. 4 Application Process: All applications to present at the CASL/CECA 2015 Conference must be submitted online. For ease of completing the online application, please prepare the following information. To complete the application, you will need: 1. Presentation Details - Presentation Type - Traditional Lecture - Interactive - Round Table - Audience Level - Beginner - Intermediate - Advanced - Title of Presentation - Is this presentation intended to generate the sale of a product or services? - Yes (What product?) - No - Grade Levels - Target Audience - Classroom Teachers - School Librarians / Media Specialists - Technology Teachers - Administrators - Technology Coordinators - Higher Education - Other (Explain) - Which of the following 21st Century Skills does your presentation best address? - Collaboration for student learning - Critical thinking - Communication to empower learning - Empowering student creativity - College and career readiness 2. Presentation Abstract (Maximum 75 words.) The abstract will be used to attract your audience. It will be included in the Conference Brochure and other promotional materials. You may write the abstract in a word processor and copy it to the online application. (Formatting will not be copied.) 3. Presentation Description (Maximum 250 words.) The description will be used by the Committee for selecting presentations. It will be displayed on the Conference website. You may write the description in a word processor and copy it to the online application. (Formatting will not be copied.) 4

Terms and Conditions for Educator Presenters You will be asked to agree to these terms and conditions in the online application. - If selected, I (We) will present at the CASL/CECA 2015 Conference on October 26, 2015 at the Mohegan Sun Convention Center in Uncasville, Connecticut. - I (We) will arrive at least 30 minutes before our scheduled presentation to address any setup issues in time for the scheduled session. - I (We) have read the Application Details and understand what equipment will be provided by the Conference organizers or facility and what equipment we are required to provide. - I (We) understand that only one presenter per presentation receives complimentary registration and that all others must pay the Standard Registration fees. - I (We) will provide in digital format, my (our) presentation materials to the Conference Committee by October 13, 2015 and that these materials may be published on the CASL and CECA websites. - I (We) understand that this presentation may be scheduled to begin as early as 7:30 a.m. or to end as late as 4:30 p.m. - If for some reason I (we) am (are) unable to present at the Conference, I (we) will notify the Conference Registrar as soon as possible. Applicants must return their signed agreement letter confirming their acceptance and agreement to adhere to all conditions. September 1, 2015 Confirmed presenters must register for the conference as a presenter by this date. Additional co- presenters must pay the standard registration fee by September 1, September, 2015 October 13, 2015 October 26, 2015 Conference details, schedules, and final information will be sent by to presenters. Confirmed presenters must have digital copies of their presentation and handouts on file with a CASL/CECA 2015 Conference representative.
