1. Before Use Thank you for choosing our product. This user s manual describes how to install the PT pen and its functionalities. This product is a digital pen for presentation purposes. As a digital pen for laptops, the product has the functions of regular mouse as well as tablet PC functions. External disturbances like sharp noises, vacuum, metal sound, or other infrared rays may cause product malfunction. Eliminating such noises is required for normal operation. This product contains a set of digital pen and station. Be familiar with the function of product in order to use the product properly. Be sure to read this user s guide carefully and follow all installation instruction in order to use the product properly. This product has been tested by a digital device in accordance with the clause 15 of FCC. For further improvement of product, some functions of product can be altered without prior notice to users. 3

2. PT Pen Outline PT Pen, the presentation pen, is innovative digital pen mouse with a combination of mouse function and pen and supports full features of Microsoft tablet computer. You can directly write on the screen of your PC as well as annotating in any MS office document. Also, the rich functions from bundled software provided by Penandfree make it easier to write, draw figures and graphs, and it contains more than 2,000 contents. Hence the distinct functions of PT Pen enable not only users to implement differentiated presentation but also make it easier for users to write and draw delicate figures that are difficult to express with general mouse. 4

3. PT Pen Components The components of PT Pen are a station that attaches to a laptop cover, digital pen, and other accessories as below Notice - The picture above is for illustration purpose only. Therefore, the actual items may look different from the picture and some items are subject to change. - PT Pen is only usable with a station, which is produced by PNF, and accessories compatible with the product. 5

4. Name and Function of each component The exterior of PT Pen is explained on this section. 5. Management of power supply and charging equipment For the user convenience and prevention of environment contamination, PT Pen operates with Lithium-polymer rechargeable battery. The essential particulars about power supply management of PT Pen are explained on this section. 5. 1. Power supply of digital pen To turn on: Lightly press the power button for 1 second to operate the pen. The blinking of LED for 5 seconds indicates that the power is switched on. WHITE LED Power verification: When the pen is turned on, a small Beep~~~ sound can be heard near the pen tip. (The Beep sound is too small that some people with poor hearing might not hear it.) Touch Beep ~~ To turn off: A pen will turn itself off if it is not in use for more than 5 minutes. To reactivate, press the power button for 1 second. Pen turns itself off if it is not in use for 5 minutes 7

5.2 Power supply of station The station powers up automatically when the USB cable of station is connected to the USB port of laptop, and the LED light comes on of the station. To turn the power off, separate the station from the USB port of laptop. 5.3 Charging equipment management We strongly recommend that you charge the pen fully before using the first time by connecting it with the PC through the charging cable. Pen is still usable while charging It takes about 1.5~2 hours to fully charge the battery of pen. 5.3.1 How to charge pen To charge the pen, connect the smaller connector of the end of charging cable to the rear of the pen and connect the other end of charging cable to the USB port of your PC. Connection of charging cable charges the pen when the power is either on or off. 8

5.3.2 Verification of LED indicator LED indicator of Pen LED light blinks quickly LED Light OFF LED Light ON Contents The battery of pen is low, so charging by the connection of charging cable required. Pen is not charging. Verify that the charging cable is properly connected to the pen and USB port. Pen is charging. Wait until the pen is fully charged. * Caution: Do not use any cable other than the cable provided with the product when charging the pen. Using other cable might damage the digital pen. When charging with USB Charger, please use the genuine USB charger. (USB genuine charger purchasable separately) 9

6. Software installation guide Install the software provided with the product is required in order to use PT Pen. MINT Control: Setup tools where users can set up a pen position, language, and virtual whiteboard calibration.. MINT Interactive : MINT Note : Annotation software that enables users to write and annotate directly on the screen, select background, and various contents are included. Annotation software that s similar to MINT Interactive but no contents are included. Refer to the Annotation SW Users guide for further instruction. 6.1 Software installation Window OS 1 Please insert a provided CD into a CD-ROM. 2 MINT Installer pops up as shown in the picture below. 3 Select the language if required. The default is set in accordance with the language of user s PC operating system. Language of user s PC operating system is set as a default. 4 Begin the software installation by clicking install 10

5 After the completion of software installation, MINT Control, MINT Interactive, and MINT Note shortcut icons will appear on the desktop as shown in the picture below. 6 Connect the station of PT Pen to the USB port of laptop and check if MINT Control recognizes the station. If the station is recognized, the color of monitor icon changes from grey to blue on the toolbar that appears on the right bottom side of the window. Notes If the installer does not pop up automatically after inserting CD, then go to Computer and find DVD drive labeled PNF and execute POPStater.exe manually in it. A warning pop-up window might appear on Windows Vista and Windows 7. You can ignore it.. The latest version of S/W will be installed after the existing version is automatically removed. If you wish to remove the software manually then go to Window Start -> Program -> MINT -> and click Uninstall Mint. 6.2 Software installation Mac OS 1 Please insert a provided CD into a CD-ROM. 2 MINT Installer pops up as shown in the picture below. 3 Click ActiveLinkStarter. 11

4 Select the language if required. The default is set in accordance with the language of user s PC operating system. Language of user s PC operating system is set as a default. 5 Begin the software installation by clicking Install. 6 Click Next until it says installation complete. 7 After the completion of software installation, MINT Control and MINT Interactive shortcut icons will appear on the desktop as shown in the picture below. 12

8 Connect the station of PT Pen to the USB port of laptop and check if MINT Control recognizes the station. If the station is recognized, the color of monitor icon changes from grey to blue on the toolbar that appears on the right bottom side of the window. 7. Station Installation Guide This page describes how to install a Station on your laptop. 7.1 How to install a Station 1 Bend a Station at 90 angle and then place the Deco Fixture into the groove as depicted below. Deco Fixture 2 Peel off the masking tape (double sided tape) at the back of the Deco Fixture and then attach to the laptop of left, right or top center based on your preference. 13

3 Attach the station in the center of whichever side you preferred. Be careful not to attach it tilted. 4 After attaching the Station on the laptop, connect the USB at the end of Station to the USB port of laptop. If the laptop is turned on, a blue light will appear on the LED on the front side of Station, and the product will automatically be recognized. 5 Please keep the Station separate when it will not be in use for a long time, and it can be used anytime simply by mounting it to the fixed Deco Fixture. 14

Even if a laptop successfully recognizes a Station, it may not operate properly until the software is installed. 8. Use of PT Pen 8.1 How to calibrate A. Calibration - Windows OS 1 Connect the Station to PC and execute MINT Control on desktop. After executing it, you can see and check the Station position, language, and calibration in Setup menu as shown in the picture below. 15

2 After setting the Station position as user s preference, click the calibration button and then picture shown below will appear. Click the center of the each circle displayed on the screen. 3 Click Sophisticated calibration if the pointed arrow doesn t accurately convey where the pen engages the target after the ordinary calibration s done. 16

B. Calibration Mac OS 1 Connect the Station to PC and execute MINT Control on desktop. After executing it, you can see and check the Station position and calibration in Calibration menu as shown in the picture below. 2 After setting the Station position as user s preference, click the calibration button and then picture shown below will appear. 3 Click Sophisticated calibration if the pointed arrow doesn t accurately convey where the pen engages the target after the ordinary calibration s done. 18

C. How to use PT Pen on an external monitor This section explains how to use PT Pen on dual monitors. 1 Connect your PC to an external monitor and then go to Control Panel ->Display -> Adjust resolution -> Select the master monitor based on your preference -> Select Extend these displays in multiple displays menu. [View by small icons in control panel] Using an external monitor of less than 17 monitor is recommended. Sizes and the shapes of external monitors are varied depending on its manufacturer. Therefore there may be a blurry screen on the upper and lower corner. 2 Connect the Station to the USB Port of your PC and then go to -> Control Panel -> Click on Tablet PC Settings. 3 Tablet PC Settings menu comes up as below and click on Setup in display menu, 19

4 Case1: using it on Monitor 1 Mount the station on Monitor 1 and lightly touch the screen of Monitor 1 with the Pen. Execute MINT Control and calibrate. Monitor 1 Monitor 2 Lightly touch the screen with the Pen. 20

5 Case2: Using PT Pen on Monitor 2 Mount the Station on Monitor 2 and press Enter on your PC. What s being displayed on Monotor1 will appear on Monitor 2 as soon as you press the Enter key. Touch the screen of Monitor2 when display appears. Execute MINT Control and calibrate. Monitor 1 Monitor 2 Press Enter key on your PC and lightly touch the screen with the Pen. Press Esc key to exit. 21

8.2 Use of pen When using a pen, grab it just as you grab a pencil or pen and write at a natural writing angle. When using a pen and a laptop, please remove any object in between the Station and the Pen. Click Function Lightly touch the laptop screen with a pen tip Execute (Double Click) Function Touch twice the same location with a pen tip. Drag Function After touching the screen with a pen tip, drag it to any location you would like Caution - The pointing arrow and pen tip might not be in alignment depending on the angle or direction at which you are grabbing a pen. - Grab a pen in the same way as you did while calibration. It is now ready to use. You can use the tablet PC function by touching and drawing directly on a laptop screen. You can use it in a variety of ways with annotation software. 22

10. General Troubleshooting This section provides troubleshooting information for users who are having trouble while using our product. Pleases check the chart below. If you are experiencing problem and that is not listed in the chart then please contact our CS center or visit the nearest shop. Troubles Items to be confirmed Pen is not writing. Pen is not writing smoothly. Battery ran out. Try again after charging it. Intercepting sound or light that affect the Station exists nearby. Try again in a different area. Pen is writing weird letters or drawing unnecessary lines Try it after setting the Station position again. Pen is not writing on certain areas. Not working after connecting Station. Make sure your hands are not blocking the Station s receiving sensor of IR or US Check if the Station is properly connected to USB port or any substance exists in USB port. Pen is not charging. Check if you are using USB charging cable that we provided. 24
