City of North Bay In the City of North Bay, population 54,000, you can enjoy good restaurants, movies, shopping, live theatre, community festivals and events, and a vibrant nightlife. Getting Around The City of North Bay provides regularly-scheduled bus service to our three local campuses, and all full-time students receive a bus pass for travel from September through April, the cost of which is included in your tuition. cityofnorthbay.ca Outdoor Activity Our countless lakes, rivers, forests, canoe routes and trail systems provide endless outdoor activity including: fishing, camping, swimming, hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, and a variety of other sports. The City is nestled between two beautiful lakes, Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake, presenting limitless water recreation opportunities. We also have a number of golf courses, parks, baseball diamonds and soccer fields throughout the City. And, for the avid jogger, cyclist or in-line skater, the Kate Pace Way and the Kinsmen Trail combine to offer 28 km of multi-use paved trails stretching from one end of the City to the other. Canadore College has an extensive financial assistance program offered to both full-time and part-time students, with approximately $1.7 million in scholarships and bursaries being awarded annually. Entrance Scholarships are open to all first year students who are residents of Ontario and are currently enrolled in a full-time program at any of Canadore College s campuses. Online Bursaries are awarded on the basis of financial need and/or satisfactory academic progress. To be considered for a bursary, eligible students must submit a detailed Online Bursary Application. Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of academic excellence, attendance, and overall contribution to the classroom. External organizations also provide assistance to our students. Students are encouraged to apply for these external awards, scholarships and/or bursaries. Application procedures and deadlines are specific to each one of these awards. Prepare meals in your fully-functioning residence kitchen or choose from one of the on-campus options like the cafeteria, vending machines or food court that includes Tim Hortons and Subway. Canadore offers the newest residences in Ontario. We have three apartment-style residences that accommodate 675 students located at the bottom of College Drive. Our secure complexes are wheelchair accessible. All residences provide single rooms allowing you to have your very own space. Each residence offers: a full kitchen, cable television, telephone, mail service, Internet access, and access to transportation and laundry facilities. Apply with deposit by May 1, 2015 for guaranteed residence. And, all first-year students are guaranteed a spot! Niijii Niijii (meaning Friend in Ojibway) is Canadore College s Mental Health and Wellness dog. Niijii spends most of his days and nights in residence and is here to socialize with Canadore employees and students. Niijii is very friendly and loves attention. Watch for him at residence events and he may even visit your unit with the Residence Life Team. Off-Campus Housing ocl.nipissingu.ca Students may choose to live off-campus. Life on campus First Peoples Centre canadorecollege.ca/fpc At Canadore many Nations are represented including Ojibway, Oji-Cree, Cree, Algonquin, Métis, Mohawk, and Inuit. We welcome approximately 350 Aboriginal students annually from across the country. Many services are available for our First Nation, Métis and Inuit students including counselling, advocacy, elders programs and peer tutoring. Our goal is to offer cultural relevancy within postsecondary programming to increase student and graduate opportunities. We are proud to offer culturallyrelevant programs. Our Indigenous Preparatory Studies, Indigenous Pre-Health and Indigenous Wellness and Addictions Prevention programs are unique to the province. Our Aviation Campus is home to top of the line, industry-standard training tools and dedicated staff and faculty. The 87,000 sq. ft. training facility is ideally located at North Bay s Jack Garland Airport and its 10,000 foot runway (the longest north of Toronto). The hangar, the campus highlight, boasting 17,000 sq. ft. of prime training space, is filled to capacity with fixed and rotary wing aircraft for students to work hands-on. Specialize in the repair, upgrading and modification of aircraft and graduate with skills that make you highly sought-after by aviation companies all over the world. The program is approved by Transport Canada and CCAA (Canadian Council for Aviation and Aerospace). Note: Graduates receive 10 months of accreditation towards a Transport Canada issued Aircraft Maintenance Engineer s Licence, Category S. Class attendance is mandatory. Nazim Belhannache Technical Instructor (Avionics), CSeries and Challenger 605 aircraft, Bombardier Aerospace, Montreal, QC Aviation Technician - Avionics Maintenance Graduate 2005 Canadore has great facilities. The location is perfect, with the aviation campus located right at the North Bay airport. The program was well structured with a good balance between theory and practical. The bench work we did as part of the practical was extremely useful in order to understand the complex theory. But what set this school apart from the rest of the pack were the teachers and support personnel. AVIATION TECHNICIAN Aircraft Maintenance Two Years - Ontario College Diploma Train hands-on on actual aircraft! The aviation industry is growing, and skilled professionals are in high demand. Learn to troubleshoot vital aircraft components and systems, including piston and turbine engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and navigation and communication systems. Study the challenging complexities of fixed and rotary wing aircraft while gaining the theoretical skills you need for apprenticeship employment. The program is approved by Transport Canada and CCAA (Canadian Council for Aviation and Aerospace).
