Using the myitlab Installation Wizard The myitlab Installation Wizard helps you set up your computer so you can access assignments and media components in your myitlab course. This document walks you through each step of the Installation Wizard. Please have this document available as you use the Installation Wizard. Preparing to Install Before you can begin the installation: You must have Administrator Rights to this computer (if you are using Windows XP or Windows Vista). Your computer must allow the installation and use of ActiveX controls. If you use America Online or another internet service provider with its own browser, you can connect to the Internet as usual, but you must use a supported Web browser. We recommend Internet Explorer 7.0 & 8.0. How do you know whether you have Administrator Rights? If you are using your own computer or you have installed software on this computer before, you already have Administrator Rights. If you are using Windows XP, you can check whether you have Administrator Rights: Right-click the Windows Start button. Look for the text Explore All Users (but do not select it). 1. If you see this text, you have Administrator Rights. 2. If you do not see this text, you do not have Administrator Rights. In this case, please contact your IT Administrator for help. You cannot install without Administrator Rights. If you are using WindowsVista, you can check whether you have Administrator Rights: Begin by closing out of any open applications (including Internet Explorer). Click the Start button and navigate over to the Internet Explorer icon. The icon may be on your desktop, directly pinned to the Start menu, or in another location depending on your level of customization. Right-click on the icon and select 'Run as administrator.' You are ready to proceed with the software installation. If you do not see that option when you right click on the Internet Explorer icon, you do not have Administrator rights. In this case, please contact your IT Administrator for help. You cannot install without Administrator Rights. How do you know whether you have the correct ActiveX settings? To check your ActiveX settings: a. In Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu and choose Internet Options. b. Go to the Security tab. c. d. Click the Default Level button. Make sure the slider for Security for this zone is set to Medium. e. Click OK to save your settings and close the window. Before You Begin The Before you begin page gives you some general information on using the myitlab Installation Wizard. Read this information carefully and then click the Next button in the bottom-right corner of the screen. [Note: If you do not see the Next button on any of the Installation Wizard pages, use the right-hand scroll bar to scroll to the bottom of the page.] myitlab installation wizard Page 2 of 12
Step 1: Installing Adobe Flash Player Step 1 installs the Adobe Flash Player onto your computer. First, you will be asked if you see a Flash movie. a. If you do see an animation and it indicates you have Adobe Flash Player 9.0 or higher, you already have the Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer. [If you have Flash Player 9.0, it will show as below with WIN 9,0 in red as the start of the player version. You can proceed by clicking Next button. b. If you do not see an animation, click the Adobe Flash Player link. This will open a new window where you can proceed with the Adobe Flash Player download. c. After you have successfully installed Adobe Flash Player, go back to the myitlab Installation Wizard browser window and click the Next button to continue to Step 2. Note: If your ActiveX settings are correct and you have Administrator Rights but you still cannot install The Flash Player, then your firewall, anti-spyware software, or other security software may be preventing the installation. myitlab installation wizard Page 3 of 12
Step 2: Installing Adobe Reader Step 2 installs the Adobe Reader onto your computer. You will be asked to click a link to open a sample PDF document. a. Click the specified link in the instructions. myitlab installation wizard Page 4 of 12
b. If the sample PDF document shown below opens successfully, you already have Adobe Reader version 7.0 or higher installed on your computer. You can proceed by clicking the Next button. c. If you do not see the sample PDF document, click the Adobe Reader link. This will open a new window where you can proceed with the Adobe Reader download. d. Once you have successfully installed Adobe Reader, go back to the myitlab Installation Wizard browser window and click the Next button to continue to Step 3. myitlab installation wizard Page 5 of 12
Step 3: Installing the myitlab simulation player The myitlab simulation player is an ActiveX control required to launch simulations in myitlab. On this page, you will be asked to install the ActiveX control. a. Click the specified link to download the ActiveX control. myitlab installation wizard Page 6 of 12
b. A window will appear, prompting you to run an executable file. Click the Run button. c. Next, a new window will appear, prompting you to run the software. Click the Run button. myitlab installation wizard Page 7 of 12
d. When the myitlab ActiveX Installer Setup Wizard window displays, click the Next button. e. Click the Install button. myitlab installation wizard Page 8 of 12
f. Click Finish to complete the myitlab ActiveX Installer Setup. g. After you have successfully installed the myitlab simulation player ActiveX control, return to the myitlab Installation Wizard window and click the Next button to continue to Step 4. myitlab installation wizard Page 9 of 12
Step 4: Optional Downloads: myitlab Player Simulation Files You're almost done! Step 4 will give you the choice of installing optional myitlab Player Simulation files, which are recommended in order to increase the speed at which the simulation will load on your computer. a. Click the link under STEP 4: Install MYITLAB PLAYER SIMULATION FILES myitlab installation wizard Page 10 of 12
b. The link will launch a new window to download the myitlab simulation player files. Follow the instructions on the page. c. After all of the myitlab simulation files are successfully downloaded to your computer, click the Close button to return to the myitlab Installation Wizard. Step 5: Installation Complete! After all of the required players are installed, the myitlab Installation Wizard Installation complete! Window displays. Click the Close button to exit the myitlab Installation wizard.. myitlab installation wizard Page 12 of 12
