Bryngarw House and Country Park have got an exciting programme of events planned for spring 2013, including craft events to make special gifts for family and friends to annual favourites such as birdsong walk and an exciting Easter weekend with the popular Easter egg hunt. Facilities include an adventure playground, barbeque sites, picnic areas, a car park and public toilets. We recently opened a new visitor centre, exhibition space and café through European funding as part of the One Historic Garden initiative. Nestled within the 113 acres of picturesque parkland, is the historic Bryngarw House, offering four star guest accommodation. An idyllic wedding venue, it also houses the award-winning Harlequin Restaurant which is available for Sunday lunch, an intimate dinner, large celebrations, or light refreshments and cream teas. Woodland art walk Date: Saturday 23 February Time: 11am Admission: Free Explore the park and collect materials while you walk. Return to the visitor centre and create your very own Bryngarw sculpture with the help of local artists. Suitable for all the family. March Mother s Day crafts Date: Saturday 9 March Time: 11am Admission: 2 per child Make cards and presents to show your mum how much you love and appreciate her. Easter egg hunt Date: Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 March Time: 10am - 12pm both days Admission: 5 per child (pre-booking essential) Search the park and discover where the Easter bunny has hidden all his chocolate eggs this year. It won t just be chocolatey delights that you ll find along the way, as special surprises and guests will all add to a magical morning of fun and laughter. Easter chocolate crafts Date: Saturday 30 March Time: 2pm Admission: 2 per child Make a special Easter treat to share with your family or to eat it yourself. This event is expected to fill up quickly, so book early to avoid disappointment.
April This year sees the introduction of an exciting new programme for Bryngarw, with a series of specialist Bushcraft courses running throughout the year. To launch this programme, the first ever Bushwaka event will be held at Bryngarw. Bushwaka Date: Saturday 13 April Time: 11am 5pm Admission: Free (car park 2.50) Go native and explore the world of bushcraft and experience traditional wilderness living skills at this family event. Bushcraft demonstrations and workshops will be on-going throughout the day. Activities will include friction fire lighting, willow weaving, foraging walks, campfire cooking, shelter building, falconry display, archery, storytelling in a giant Tipi and many more. There will also be bushcraft related stalls and if you are interested in the natural environment and traditional skills, there will also be an opportunity to meet local craft and conservation groups. This event is a great introduction into the programme of planned bushcraft courses held in Bryngarw this year. Bushcraft for beginners course Date: Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April Time: 10am - 4pm both days Admission: 100 per person (free car parking) Take part in the first of this year s bushcraft courses. Sign up for two days of expert tuition and learn all the essential skills required to survive and thrive in the great outdoors including fire lighting techniques, shelter building, knife work and camp wood craft, spoon carving and wild food foraging and campfire cooking which includes cooking your own lunch on both days. Birdsong walk Date: Sunday 21 April Time: 10.30am 12pm Admission: Free (Car park 2.50) Don t miss the opportunity to listen to this spring s birdsong, as summer migrant birds bring their elegant melodies back to the park. The rangers will be leading this walk from the entrance of the visitor centre. Supplied: Richard Levett Learn at the visitor centre The park offers an exciting educational experience at the centre with a variety of ranger-led activities including nature walks, mini-beast hunts and pond dipping available. This is ideal for school groups, as well as other organisations such as Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Guides. Sessions usually last between one - two hours and cost just 1 per child. The rangers can also facilitate alternative activities specifically tailored to lesson plans. For more information, or to book a session, call the rangers office. Cedars Café Located in the new visitor centre, Cedars Café offers a variety of delicious snacks and refreshments to help you make the most of your day at Bryngarw. Give the kids some much-needed energy for an active day in the park with an array of sandwiches, snacks and cakes, or enjoy a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate to warm yourself up on a fresh spring morning.
