Installing Office 2013 on your campus desktop or laptop PC This article covers how to download and install Office 2013 on your campus desktop or laptop computer. NOTE: these instructions are not for at-home (personal) computers. Don't have permission to download programs on your computer? Contact the IT Help Desk at helpdesk@fullerton.edu or 657-278-7777 for additional assistance. 1. Uninstall previous versions of Office and then restart your computer. If you have a previous version of Office installed (i.e. Office 2010, Office 2007, etc.) on your computer, you will need to uninstall it. After uninstalling, restart your computer. 2. Click on the Start button and select All Programs. 1. Click on the Start button located at the bottom left of your screen. 2. Then click All Programs. Page 2
3. Click on the Campus Software folder. Page 3
3.1 Click on Install Office 2013. After clicking on Install Office 2013 link, jump to step 5 in these instructions. Page 4
4. Don't see the Campus Software folder? Enter the file path below in the Search field. In the Search field, enter \\adselect\campussoftware\gpo_packages\office2013pro_32bit and then press the Enter key on your keyboard. Page 5
4.1 Double click on the InstallOffice2013.bat file. Page 6
5. You'll see a command prompt appear. Leave it open! 5.1 You may see a pop-up window asking you if you want to allow changes. Click Yes. Page 7
6. Next, you'll see another window with the Installation Progress. Leave it open! Be patient! This process may take a little while. Page 8
7. Once the installation finishes, click Close. You're welcome to click on Continue Online to view more information, but you'll have to restart your computer to finish the installation, so you may want to just bookmark the page after you open it. Then click Close. Page 9
8. Click Yes to restart your computer. You won't be able to use Office applications until you restart your computer. Click Yes to restart. 9. Open a Microsoft application such as Outlook to finish the installation. You're not done! 1. Open up any Microsoft application such as Outlook, Word, or Excel. 2. You'll then see a pop-up window indicating that Office is still being configured. Wait for it to finish. 3. Once the configuration is done, the application will open. Page 10
10. Run Windows Update. Lastly, you'll want to run Windows Update so you can be sure you have the latest security patches. 1. Close all Microsoft applications. 2. Click on the Start button. 3. Then click Windows Update. Page 11
10.1 Choose Check online for updates from Microsoft Update. Critical updates are pushed to your computer by IT. For important or optional updates, select Check online for updates from Microsoft Update. Page 12
10.2 It may take a very long time for your computer to check for updates. 10.3 Select any optional updates and then click Install Updates. 1. Click on the optional updates to select which optional updates (if any) you want to also install. Page 13
2. Click Install Updates. 10.4 Depending on how many updates there are to be installed, this may take a long time. 10.5 You will most likely need to restart your computer once the updates have been installed.
