ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT The Think Pink Foundation (TPF) is unique in Australia. It is a non-aligned Foundation established to provide non-medical practical support services to breast cancer patients and their families. Principally the Foundation achieves this through the provision of free services provided from The Living Centre, located at 390 St Kilda Rd Melbourne. The Foundation opened the Living Centre in September 2010. Our services include the provision of Breast Care Nurses to provide non-medical advice and counselling, a wig salon with fitting service and a calendar of monthly wellness events attended by breast cancer patients from early diagnosis, to advanced cases and into survivorship. ). In addition, we provide short term accommodation for patients from regional Victoria while undertaking treatment in Melbourne. To qualify for use of the apartment patients must be qualified for VPTAS (The Victorian Patient Transport Assistance Scheme). The apartment is located in the same building as the Living Centre and enjoys a high occupancy rate. Position Description / Chief Executive Officer / TPF / created Mar15 1
All Living Centre services, including the accommodation, are provided free of charge. The average monthly direct cost to the Foundation of providing the facility is currently $30,000.00. The statistics of breast cancer are daunting. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. In 2014 this translates to approximately 15,000 women nationally in Australia and 3,500 in Victoria. The Think Pink Foundation, through the services of the Living Centre and our outreach programs aims to connect with as many patients as possible. Since we opened the Living Centre we have provided direct support to over 1,500 women on more than 5,000 occasions - face to face, by telephone and over the internet and through our outreach programs. The extent of our personal support multiplies extraordinarily if one takes into consideration the positive impact of our services on the families of the patients of breast cancer, such as, our Supporting Blokes Program for partners of women with breast cancer. Indirectly we estimate this equates to over 15,000 people who have benefited by the caring support of The Think Pink Foundation, since the opening of The Living Centre in September 2010.
