Séance 3 This week in French Club we did the following: Watched the Muzzy video. The Friday group watched the first part, see last week s summary for the vocabulary. The vocabulary from this part of the video is the following: Je suis fort. = I am strong. Je suis grosse. = I am fat. Je suis belle. = I am beautiful. Je suis malin. = I am clever. Je suis courageux. = I am courageous. Tu es fort. = You are strong. Et toi, tu es grosse. = And you, you are fat. Et elle, elle est belle. = And she, she is beautiful. Il est courageux. = He is courageous. Et il est malin. = And he is clever. Non, non! Moi, je suis malin. = No, no! Me, I am clever. Grand. Je suis grand! Le Grand Muzzy! = Big. I am big. Big Muzzy. Petit. = Small. Practiced saying Je suis = I am. We acted out all the adjectives. We practiced saying I am a girl and I am a boy. Explained the colors and the homework. 1. The children should figure out what each color is from the picture clue, and then color the box with the French word for the color. 2. Each day your child should wear a different color. Explain that they have 30 seconds to run around in the house and touch everything they see that is that color. Each time they touch something, for example if the color is blue, they say C est bleue. Give them a countdown to get ready to go by saying Trois, deux, un, Partez! Count how many things they touch in 30 seconds. Write the number in the box next to the color. Note: there were some errors in the masculine/feminine forms of the words on the homework page that was distributed in class. Below you will find the corrected version. Desolée!! Extra writing practice for 3 rd graders, do as much as you want: Write out the word for the number in French. Write C est bleue! in the box as well. Find something that is blue in your house. Look up the word in a French dictionary or on http://babelfish.altavista.com/. Then write a sentence like the example: Une feuille est verte. = A leaf is green. Note: The leaf is feminine so a = une and we add an e to the end of verte.

Every year around mardi Gras, Becky Brown comes in and shares stories of what life is like where she is from in Louisiana, and shows us videos of the Mardi Gras parade with her family, brings in trinkets from the real Mardi Gras parade and explains about the traditions and festivities of people that live in New Orleans. This year, in hurricane Katrina, the several families that are employed by Becky s brother in New Orleans were displaced by the flooding and are in urgent need of help. If you would like to make a contribution to help them, I sent home a notice with the number of the special PEFCU account that has been set up to provide them with financial assistance.
