Bangladesh is a developing country where eighty five percent of the people live in the most remote villages. Consequently thousands of people die due to poverty, ignorance, hunger, malnutrition and lack of treatment facilities. Moreover, thousands of mothers and children are the victim of early death for inadequate medical care. In our country the doctor population ration is 1:4,521 which is far below than the standard of WHO. Moreover, there are a few under graduate medical institutions with standard and educational facilities to educate medical graduates to cope up with the present situation. Introduction The Army Medical Colleges are government teaching cum healthcare organizations. Establishment of such institutes assists mobilization of resources for health manpower development to solve national problems through basis and applied research by encouraging self reliance in mass population. This programme will give a good profile of talents of students in technical field by providing better performance in medical education in a separate environment. These medical colleges will have research cell in each department with good facilities for graduates who can give more time in this field. The major areas of the college activities Introduction to newly designed community oriented medical education including MBBS course. We have further plan for training courses of nurses, paramedical and medical social works, postgraduate studies, training and research leading to certificate, diploma degree and medical graduation. Location Bangladesh Army is going to establish five medical college, Each one at Borga, Chittagong, Comilla, Jessore and Rangpur Cantonment areas. Aim/ Objectives Aim: The aim of each Army Medical College is to train students for five academic years according to the curriculum laid down by Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) for MBBS degree to be awarded by the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) Objectives: The objectives of each Army Medical College are: To produce skilled, dedicated, caring doctors with highly disciplined, physically and mentally compatible to serve the country and beyond. Army Medical College are Government medical institutions. This colleges will be affiliated to the BUP and reconditioned by BMDC. Army Medical College Campus Each College building will be accommodated in a multi storied building over an area of atleast 30 bighas land in each cantonment. It will be provided with class room facility for 100(hundred) students, along with the practical demonstration room and a modern library in the college premises. On adhoc basis, for two years, till erection of aforesaid complex it will function in existing temporary facilities. Hospital We have 200 (Two hundred) bed functioning Combined Military Hospitals (CMH) at each of the cantonment involved in teaching. In future the hospitals which will be upgraded as 500 (Five hundred) bed hospital and shall be fully equipped with the department of Medicine, Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Eye, ENT, Anesthesiology, Radiology and Imaging, Pathology, Skin and VD, Pediatrics and Neonatology, Cardiology, Physiotherapy, Out Patient and Emergency Department will be independent unit attached to hospital. Medical College Facilities at a Glance Accommodation: Army Medical Colleges are partly residential institutions. There are separate dormitories for Male & Female students within the college campus. The students and their relatives have to follow regulations of cantonments. Messing: Medical students will be provided with messing and allied services including laundry facilities. The messing, laundry and allied charges will be paid by the students. Medical Facility: All medical students studying in Army Medical College and graduate doctors from Army Medical College doing internship, will receive free medical treatment (both outdoor and indoor) as per existing policy. Clothing: Medical students will be issued with all necessary uniform and other supporting items, the cost of which will be met out of outfit charge payable by the students. College Activities: Aim of Army Medical Colleges are to develop a medical student into a complete person with qualities like human values to produce better disciplined and skilled doctors for the national health care service. Emphasis will be given to both curricular as well as extracurricular activities. Additional classes by the renowned personalities of various subjects, like Military life and discipline, Social values, Leadership, English language, Computer skills etc. will also be arranged. Gymnasium College Library and Computer Laboratory The Colleges will have well spacious library. It is enriched with different types of books and journals. The library gradually will make a good collection of training video films/audio cassettes and professional slides. Enrichment of library is a continuous process. Every year new and latest books will be added in the collection. The computer lab will be furnished with sufficient number of computers with all accessories and internet facilities. Computer skill would help the cadets in acquiring medical education by using internet. Eligibility for Admission ADMISSION PROCEDURE Candidates must fulfill the following requirements: (1) Age- Maximum 20 years on 1 st July 2015. (2) Sex- Male/Female (3) Marital status- Unmarried (4) Nationality- Bangladeshi by birth (5) Educational qualification-must have passed Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or their equivalent examinations having Physics, Chemistry and Biology in HSC or its equivalent. The Minimum educational performances are as follows: (a) The students must have total GPA 8.00 & minimum GPA 4.00 in each of SSC & HSC or its equivalent examinations. (b) Candidates must have Grade point 3.50 in Biology in HSC or its equivalent examinations. (c) Physical Standard-The candidates must be physically fit by medical board. Procedure of Selection for students a. Selection of student will be made strictly on basis of declared government policy. b. All applications for admission will be processed centrally on line. c. The Candidate shall pay TK 750/-(Taka Seven hundred fifty Only) as registration fee. d. Admit card shall be issued online in time as mentioned in advertisement and a central written exam shall be conducted. e. Candidates will be selected as per their choice and merit. f. b. All students will have to attend the class with clean and calendared white colored aprons with their names plate on. c. Smoking is prohibited in the college campus. d. Pasting of posters on the wall of the college premises are prohibited and students involved in them are liable to be punished. e. All types of demonstration, shouting in the college premises are prohibited and students involved in them are liable to be punished. f. Students must behave properly with staffs, employees of the college. Acts of any misbehavior is also a matter of indiscipline and liable for disciplinary action. g. The students are expected to maintain the highest of standard in the academic and private life. h. Every student should have all the prescribed text books, dissecting instruments, medical equipments etc. The College will not supply these items to the student. j. Leave-In case of any sickness or other unavoidable reason of non attendance, a written statement from the parent/guardian is to be presented to the teachers concerned, who is turn will submit it to the principal for approval. k. Cost of loss/damage to college property is liable to be realized from the students/students found responsible for the loss/damage for the college property. l. Political activities will not permitted in the college. Library Rules/ Regulation Students must observe strict discipline in the college. On disciplinary grounds, the following penalties may be imposed on a student (according to the gravity of the offense committed): a. Warning b. Fines (amount to be decided by the authorities) c. Fired from the college (temporary or permanent) depending on the gravity of the offense committed, imposed penalty on a student will be recorded in his/her transcript/testimonial. A student s name may be struck off from the college register under the following circumstance: Students Attendance a. Remaining absent from classes for more than one month without any information. b. On disciplinary ground (on the advice of the academic council). c. On non-payment of the college wide within three months form the date of payment. [5]
Student s attendances are recorded in attendance registers, Attendance reports to be sent to the parent/guardian on a quarterly basis as and when necessary.
