2 ADMISSION TO NRI SEATS IN ENGINEERING COLLEGES UNDER IHRD I Introduction IHRD is an educational agency fully owned and controlled by Government of Kerala. Since its inception in 1987, IHRD has established 93 Nos. of various category institutions including nine engineering colleges for development of manpower in the field of Electronics, Computer, IT and other related fields. Applications are invited in the prescribed format for admission of candidates to B.Tech degree courses (4 years) under NRI quota during the academic year in various Engineering Colleges under IHRD. The admission to NRI quota seats in the Engineering courses will be made by the respective Principals by preparing rank list from the applications received in each Engineering College. II Sl. Fee for the NRI quota seats to B.Tech courses is fixed by Government/IHRD. No fee exemption/concession will be allowed to candidates seeking admission to NRI quota seats under any circumstances. 2. The following rate of Tuition Fee are prescribed to the NRI quota seats for the year , as was followed in the previous year, till any modification ordered by the Government of Kerala /IHRD. Tuition Fee per year: Rs.1 lakh Refundable Deposit: Rs.1.25 lakh (to be paid at the time of admission) 3. The candidates admitted against the NRI quota are required to remit the prescribed fees and deposit as per mode and time specified by the Principal concerned / Director, IHRD. The refundable deposits collected from the NRI students shall be refunded without interest on completion of 4 years or completion of the course whichever is later. The date of remittance of the deposit in the colleges will be considered for calculation of 4 years for refund of the refundable deposit. 3

4 4. In addition to Para 3 above, the candidates will be required to remit the University fee, affiliation fee, PTA fee etc. as per instructions from the head of institutions from time to time. 5. The fees once remitted will not be refunded. However the fees and refundable deposit of candidates who gets admission in Engineering /Medical Degree courses in Government /Government Aided /Government Controlled colleges, other than private self-financing colleges through the allotment process made by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) Kerala during the current academic year, before the closure of NRI admission, will be refunded after deducting the administration and processing charges of Rs 10000/-. All such refund will be processed only after closure of NRI admission Fee for the candidates getting admission in any of the IHRD Engineering colleges under NRI quota will be adjusted after deducting the admission fee. 6. Any student who gets admission under NRI quota, later discontinues his/her study from any one of the Engineering Colleges under IHRD after closure of NRI admission is liable to pay the entire tuition fee for the remaining years for the issue of Transfer Certificate. The refundable deposit in such cases will be refunded only after the completion of 4 years from the date of deposit. IV Criteria of eligibility for admission: 1. Nativity: Only Indian citizens and persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/ Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) are eligible for admission. 2. Academic Eligibility: The academic qualifications for admission to NRI quota seats in the Engineering Courses are as prescribed in the Prospectus of admission to Professional Degree (Engineering) courses-2014 issued by the CEE, Kerala (KEAM-2014) /relevant Government orders /admission rules of IHRD which is made applicable for admission to NRI quota and subject to the regulations of University to which the college is affiliated. 3. Relaxation in marks: For all the courses, candidates belonging to Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (as per G.O. (P) No. 208/66/Edn dated and amendments thereof), with a total annual family income not exceeding Rs.6.0 lakhs, will have a relaxation of 5% marks in 4

5 the qualifying examination. They need only 45% marks in the case of Mathematics and 45% marks in the case of optional subjects put together. In such cases, candidates shall produce income certificate/caste certificate from village officer as proof. Candidates belonging to SEBC category /Persons with Disabilities (PD) who have obtained 40% marks in Mathematics separately with 55% aggregate marks in Physics and Chemistry put together are also eligible for admission. The Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes candidates need only a pass in the qualifying examination. 4. Age: Applicants should complete 17 years of age as on No relaxation in the minimum age will be allowed. 5. Other eligibility criteria : The candidates seeking admission to B.Tech NRI quota seats should be a child/ward/dependant of an NRI and should enclose a declaration from the NRI {form enclosed as VIII (7)}, along with the application. V Application form: Application form for admission to B.Tech courses against NRI quota is to be completed online through the website of IHRD ( / from the official website of the concerned Colleges. (Please see clause II of this Prospectus for website address). Separate application should be submitted for seeking admission to different Engineering colleges under IHRD. The print out of the online application along with required application fee and documents are to be submitted to the Principal of concerned colleges strictly following the time schedule. VI Application Fee: 1. The application fee for all candidates will be Rs 500/-. No fee concession shall be allowed to SC/ST/SEBC/OBC candidates. Application fee once remitted shall not be refunded under any circumstances. Applications without application fee as DD will summarily be rejected. 2. Mode of Payment of Application Fee: Application fee will be received only by way of Demand Draft (DD) drawn on a Nationalized/Scheduled Bank, in favor of the Principal, of the Engineering College concerned where the applicant desires admission, payable at the place of the college. 5

6 VII Submission of Application. The print out of the completed online application together with application fee of Rs.500/- by way of Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Principal of respective Engineering colleges, payable at the place where the college is situated, with supporting documents attested by a Gazetted Officer or the Principal of the institution where the student studied for his eligibility qualification shall be submitted to the office of the Principal of concerned Engineering Colleges (Please see clause II, for the communication address of the Engineering Colleges) before the stipulated time limit. Applications will be considered only if he/she has furnished the relevant certificates prescribed in the Prospectus. IHRD will not be responsible for non-receipt or late receipt of applications, under any circumstances. Late and incomplete applications / applications not in the prescribed form/ applications without supporting document and application fee of Rs.500/- by way of Demand Draft will be summarily rejected. VIII Documents to be submitted along with print out of the completed online application. 1. Nativity certificate (As per prospectus conditions issued by the CEE for admission to professional courses- 2014). 2. Attested copy of the SSLC / equivalent certificate mentioning the date of birth of the applicant. 3. Attested copy of the mark list of the qualifying examination. 4. Attested copy of income /caste certificate obtained from competent authority as prescribed in KEAM-2014 Prospectus, to claim relaxation of marks if any as per clause IV(3). 5. Demand Draft for Rs 500/- as application fee. 6. NRI Certificate: Attested copy of any one of the following documents to prove the current NRI status. a. Certificate from Bank proving the valid NRE account in the name of the sponsor of the candidate including his/her current valid full address abroad with phone number. 6

7 b. Valid Employment Certificate of the Sponsor from the firm where he/she is currently employed c. Certificate from the Embassy concerned to prove NRI status 7. Declaration from the NRI in the prescribed format / as detailed below: I hereby declare that I am a Non Resident Indian and the applicant Sri/Smt.. is my Son/Daughter/Dependent (Strike out which is not applicable). My Passport No. is and I am Employed/ residing at... (Fill the details of Foreign Employment/ Place of residence). I hereby undertake to abide by the rules and regulations of IHRD in connection with the admission of the above applicant under NRI quota and I am willing to pay the fees and deposit prescribed for the course. For the purpose of selection and admission, each college will be treated as a separate unit. Selection/admission to NRI quota seats in each college will be made by the Principal of concerned Engineering College by preparing a list from the applications received from the eligible candidates and effect the admission on merit basis. The rank list will be prepared by observing the following criteria. a. Total of individual percentage of marks obtained for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or equivalent subjects specified in KEAM 2014 prospectus) in the final year of the qualifying examination. b. If there is a tie, the percentage of marks for Mathematics will be counted. c. If there is still a tie, percentage of marks for Physics, Chemistry, total marks in the qualifying examination will be counted in sequence. 7

8 X XI Merely sending an application does not confer any claim for admission to the applicant. Incomplete applications and applications not in the prescribed format will be rejected without any notice. Ragging is a cognizable offense and punishable under provisions of Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act Those who are indulged in ragging will be expelled from the educational Institution and other legal actions will follow. XII Last date of receipt of application, date of publication of rank list, schedule of admission, date of closure of NRI admission etc. will be separately notified by the Director, IHRD through the official website of IHRD/concerned colleges. XIII All communication/ notifications related to NRI admission including rank list, details of allotment, time schedule of admission etc. will be published in the official websites of concerned Engineering Colleges only. No separate memo will be sent to the selected/ waitlisted candidates. Failure to report for admission as per the announced time schedule will forfeit the claim for admission. XIV This prospectus is subject to modification as per the decision of the IHRD authorities, Government of Kerala, AICTE and CUSAT without any prior intimation to the candidates.
