Installing your Ithaca itherm 280 This guide will help you install your Ithaca itherm 280 printer and setup RQ4 to use it. Please read this guide carefully before attempting to install the printer software. Supported Operating Systems This driver allows users to install the Ithaca itherm 280 printer on the following Microsoft operating systems (32 bit or 64 bit): Microsoft Windows 7 Microsoft Windows Vista Microsoft Windows XP Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Pre-install Checklist Before installing this printer there are several key points to understand: You must be an Administrator in Windows. Check with your company s IT staff if you don t have enough rights. Make sure the printer is either not connected to the computer or stays turned off until after the driver is installed. This guide is written for Ithaca itherm 280 printers with a USB connection. For printers using other connectors (9-pin COM port, LTP port, Ethernet, etc) please contact Transact for assistance (http://www.transact-tech.com/products/ithaca_itherm280_info.html). Warning: If you plan to share your itherm 280 printer between computers, please talk to your company s IT staff before proceeding. iqmetrix support cannot assist customers with printer sharing. Close RQ4 before proceeding with the driver install.
Getting the Ithaca itherm 280 Software Go to the iqmetrix support site (http://support.retailiq.com). Log in by providing your company s database name as well as your username and password for RetailiQ/RQ4. (The database name is case-sensitive.) Click on [Downloads] on the left side of the screen and then on [Receipt Printers]. Click on the [Download] link for the Itherm 280 Receipt Printer Driver. If asked to Open or Save, please choose Save. (Be sure to make note of where the file is being saved) Installing the Ithaca itherm 280 Software Right-click on the 280Install.zip file you saved earlier and select [Extract All]. When the Extraction Wizard is finished, open the un-zipped file and then open the ITherm280-576 folder. Right-click on the TactITherm-576 file and select [Install].
If a Security window pops up, click [Open]. Next, go to Control Panel and find your printers. o Win XP: Start >> Control Panel >> Printers and Faxes o Win Vista: Start >> Control Panel >> Printers o Win 7: Start >> Control Panel >> Devices and Printers
Click on [Add a printer] under the Printer Tasks or Right-click on an empty space and select [Add Printer]. The Add Printer Wizard will open and you can click [Next] to begin.
Select Local printer attached to this computer and make sure that Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play print is unchecked. Then click [Next]. Select Use the Following port and from the drop down list, select USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB) and click *Next+.
Under Manufacturer, select TransAct Technologies, and under Printers, select itherm280. Then click [Next].
If there is an existing driver, select Replace existing driver and click *Next+. Enter a printer name and select [No] to having it as your default printer, then click [Next].
Select Do not share this printer and click *Next+. Select Yes to printing a test page.
Click [Finish]. Now is the correct time to connect the printer or turn it on. A small box may pop up in the bottom-right corner saying that Windows has found new hardware. It should automatically detect the driver you just installed. You may be asked for a disk labeled itherm280.dll. Click on *Browse+ and Navigate your way to the un-zipped 280Install folder and find the itherm280.dll file located within. 280Install >> i386 >> ITHERM280.dll
Once you have found the file, click [Open]. Then click [OK]. After clicking [OK], a test page print out that should look like this.
If the Page is similar to what is shown then click [OK] Configuring Your Printer You must now configure your printer correctly. Go to Control Panel and find your printer. o Win XP: Start >> Control Panel >> Printers and Faxes o Win Vista: Start >> Control Panel >> Printers o Win 7: Start >> Control Panel >> Devices and Printers Right-click on your printer and choose Properties (Win XP) or Printer Properties (Win Vista/Win 7).
Under the Transact Printer Properties tab make sure the EndDoc Line Feeds: *ESC+d# is set to 15, and that the EOD Knife Cut: *ESC+v is set to YES. If you have cash drawers connected to the printers set either Fire Cash Drawer1 or Fire Cash Drawer2, not both. Then click on [Save to use Shown Values]. Click [Yes] and the Printer Spooler will stop and restart.
After the spool service has been restarted click on [OK]. Everything should now be ready to go. If the printer is installed but is showing up as Offline then try re-booting the computer. It should now appear as Ready. If you haven t already printed a test page please do so now. Right-click on the printer and choose Properties. From the General Tab click on the Print Test Page button. You should get a test printout similar to the one shown a few pages back. Setting Up Printer in RQ4 Now that the printer is installed you need to configure RQ4 to work with it. Log in to RQ4 Click on the Settings icon.
Click on the [Printer] link under Workstation Settings. Under Till Tape Printer select the itherm280 printer. Make sure the Left Margin and Top Margin are both set to 200, the Font is set to Arial and the Font Size is set to 9. Then click [Save Changes]. Scroll down to see the grid that specifies which documents go to which printers. Select which documents go to which printers. In General, only Sale/Refund is set to Till Tape Printer. If there are any problems with printing, check the configuration print out from the printer. This is done by powering the printer down and then pressing and holding the Feed button. Power on the printer then let go of the feed printer then press and hold the feed button for for 2 seconds. Then press and hold it again for 2 seconds. Then give the Feed button a quick press. It should print out a configuration report. Then power the printer off and on again. Check and make sure the report looks like this.
