Operation status of variable renewable energy in Inner Mongolia Grid (IMG) Power generation The maximum power output of wind power is 7.70 GW,accounting for 32% of the day s maximum power output. The maximum on-grid daily output is 13.95 GWh, accounting for 25.5% of total daily on-grid power. The maximum power output of PV is 1.05 GW. In 2013, about 21,977 GWh of wind power is put on grid, accounting for 11.1% of total power. The percentage is expected to be around 20% in 2020.

Main content Operation status of variable renewable energy in Inner Mongolia Grid (IMG) Our work on variable renewable energy Some issues in grid integration of variable renewable energy

Our work on variable renewable energy Extensive research on operation characteristics on large-scale wind power Solve the problem of wind information integration Establish the meteorological services for wind forecast Develop various wind power prediction software Application of wind power AGC and AVC technologies Develop wind technology supporting system Research the dispatching model and wind power acceptance methods of large scale wind power

Solve the problem of wind information integration Operation monitoring (grid connection status, wind speed and direction, spinning speed of generator, blade spinning speed, temperature, active power, reactive power, power factor and frequency ), which is foundation for wind power prediction, control and statistics. Calibration of the absolute direction of wind

Develop various wind power prediction software Wind prediction of single wind farm, regional network and entire grid Ultra-short-term and mid-term wind power prediction

Application of wind power AGC and AVC technologies Develop wind power automatic generation control system based on wind power and thermal power joint optimization

Application of wind power AGC and AVC technologies Wind farm AVC system AVC system Voltage tracing curve of AVC system

Develop wind technology supporting system wind dispatch supporting system The system combines the functions of operation monitoring, wind power prediction, control and statistics.

Main content Operation status of variable renewable energy in Inner Mongolia Grid (IMG) Our work on variable renewable energy Some issues in grid integration of variable renewable energy

Some issues in grid integration of variable renewable energy Key factors in developing wind power The determining factor is price. Effective subsidy and incentive need to be established to encourage integration of wind power so that the wind power can serve as a substitute energy source and eventually become the main power source. Prediction and control technology is necessary to integrate high penetration of renewables into the grid Wind power AGC, AVC & PV AGC, AVC Flexible generation plays an essential roll Gas Turbine, Hydro, Pumped Hydro Faster dispatch Current grid dispatching management model needs to be adjusted to accommodate renewable Coordination of various power resources needs economic and regulatory policies Electricity market, Ancillary services market, Quota system, Assessment indicators of energy consumption per kilowatt for local government
