Level 8, Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHCADS) 2010 Permanent, full time Our organisation The Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria (DVRCV) aims to prevent violence in intimate and family relationships and promote non-violent and respectful behaviour. Established in 1986, DVRCV is now the largest provider of family violence resources and training in Victoria. We are family violence specialists dedicated to making a safer community for women and children. We currently employ 19 staff (or 13 EFT) who are highly skilled in education, training, online communications, research, writing and in responding to women and children who experience family violence. Our work is informed by the lives of women and children who have experienced family violence. We work within a feminist framework with an understanding of the gendered nature of family violence. We work in partnership with other organisations with similar aims. DVRCV is an Incorporated Association. The DVRCV Governance Group (Board) is responsible for the strategic directions, policy positions, statutory obligations, compliance and overall development and sustainability of the organization. This includes monitoring that DVRCV is performing well, is solvent, and is complying with all its legal, financial and ethical obligations.

DVRCV receives core funding from the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services with additional income from a variety of government and philanthropic organisations. We provide: Advocacy and comment on policy initiatives, media campaigns, project development, law reform and best practice frameworks Training courses for professionals on a range of responses to family violence including primary prevention, through intervention and crisis to long term recovery and highlight the needs of marginalised groups (DVRCV is a Registered Training Organisation) Websites with information for o people who have experienced or witnessed family violence, their friends and family o o family violence workers, researchers, students and primary prevention practitioners young people A magazine with articles on current issues in family violence from workers and researchers in the field A range of family violence related publications: pamphlets, help cards, discussion papers Specialist projects and research to support the development of the family violence service system and address gaps in service delivery. Initial support, information and referral to individuals and professionals looking for information on family violence and family violence services A specialist library that is open to the general public, with resources relating to family violence, sexual assault and child sexual assault Over the next 3 years the work of DVRCV will be informed by the 2015-2018 organisational plan endorsed by the Governance Group under these strategic directions: 1. Build the capacity of the community and workforce to respond to and prevent family violence. 2. Expand the knowledge base in family violence and use it to influence policy and practice. 3. Ensure sustainability of the organisation. 4. Extend our work in primary prevention of violence against women. DVRCV Position description - Chief Executive Officer 2

Position objectives Provide organisational leadership to DVRCV with a focus on: Development and implementation of strategic directions Development and implementation of policy and procedures Managing resources of DVRCV, including seeking out new funding opportunities to deliver on strategic and operational priorities and continuous improvement processes Managing DVRCV external relationships to influence policy and practice Supporting an organisational culture that o is based on a feminist framework to empower and support women, o promotes clear communication, consultation, role clarity, accountability and good governance across the whole organization. Key Responsibilities 1. Strategic Leadership and Policy Development Lead the implementation of an organisational plan, demonstrating a commitment to the organisations best asset, its people Work with the Governance Group and staff to determine DVRCV s values, mission, vision, and short and long term goals. Assist the Governance Group to monitor and evaluate DVRCV s relevance, its effectiveness, and its results. Keep the Governance Group fully informed on the condition of DVRCV and on all the important factors (trends, issues, problems and opportunities) influencing it in order to facilitate policy making. Act as an effective conduit between staff and the Governance Group, leading consultation processes with staff and reporting on any issues impacting on the work of the organisation. Keep informed of developments in family violence, not-for-profit management and governance, philanthropy and income generation. 2. Organisational, Financial and Management Accountabilities Provide general oversight of all DVRCV activities, managing the day-to-day operations, and assuring a smoothly functioning, efficient organisation. Oversee the fiscal activities of the organisation including budgeting, reporting and audit. Monitor compliance with relevant laws and regulations and assure management of legal and regulatory documents. Ensure the Governance Group receives all information necessary to fulfill its governance responsibilities. Ensure systems and processes are in place to be able to provide accurate and up to date financial information to ensure the financial well being of DVRCV. Communicate early identification and ongoing management of risks to DVRCV. Identify funding opportunities and coordinate funding submissions in line with strategic goals of DVRCV to enable financial sustainability of organisation. Ensure secretariat and executive support for the Governance Group, attending monthly meetings, overseeing the annual report and annual general meeting. 3. Human Resource Management Promote teamwork and respectful working relationships within a feminist framework Facilitate the development of workplace practices based on feminist principles and organisational values. Lead the development of a participatory and consultative organisation to ensure processes are transparent and accountable. Promote a work environment that effectively recruits, retains and supports quality staff. Ensure clarity in the ways in which teams align with, work together and contribute to achieving organisational objectives. Support Team Coordinators to lead and manage teams effectively and supportively Lead organisational discussion and consultation process with staff and Governance Group. Ensure contractual arrangements and relationships with funding bodies and other external stakeholders are as consistent as possible with feminist principles Build and manage respectful professional relationships both internally and with external individuals and organisations. Communicate and demonstrate responsibility for compliance with legislative requirements regarding workplace relationships. Foster the development of a motivational environment for DVRCV staff and Governance Group. 4. Advocacy and community relationships Lead external communication to influence a diverse range of organisations and individuals to build the reputation of DVRCV. Create opportunities for DVRCV to influence social change. Act as chief spokesperson for DVRCV including communicating with media on issues related to family violence. Raise the profile of DVRCV by using effective marketing and communications activities that achieves influence and attracts resources. Lead the development of complex reports, submissions, and articles to influence external decision making. Lead the development of an organisational research agenda to support advocacy Foster a spirit of collaboration amongst stakeholders. Establish, maintain and manage effective working relationships with other relevant funding bodies, government departments, universities, corporates and community organisations. Selection Criteria 1. Extensive knowledge of and commitment to working within a feminist framework in advocating for women and children 2. Significant experience relevant to family violence and the prevention of violence against women 3. Excellence as a collaborative, consultative leader in a team environment 4. Demonstrated skills in strong advocacy, presentation and public speaking skills appropriate to promoting DVRCV to government, corporate sector, grant bodies and the media 5. Experience in the design and implementation of strategic advocacy initiatives 6. Demonstrated communication, collaboration and negotiation skills 7. Track record in organisational development, including demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, financial and human resource management in a growth environment 8. Experience in managing diverse programs and projects in a community environment 9. Excellent leadership, organisational, financial, governance and staff management skills 10. Capacity to develop effective relationships and further the advancement of DVRCV through the facilitation of collaborative partnerships.
